Kevin T., the suspect in the racist drive-by attack
in the suburb of Trappes and other
suburbs near it last week near Paris,
which killed one and injured seven, was moved overnight
from police custody to a Paris tribunal.
France's National Antiterrorism Prosecutor's Office held
a press conference this Thursday
morning detailing the suspect's profile,
his motives, as well as his itinerary and actions.
Our reporter Charlie James followed that presser for us.
Charlie, what exactly did the prosecutor say about the investigation
and about the main suspect?
Hi, Charles. The prosecutor gave many disturbing details here at the
press conference just a short time ago at the Paris Judicial Court.
He said that the suspect, Kevin T.,
now admits that the attack was premeditated.
He said he targeted people who looked Muslim, African and North African
and carried out the attack in trap because it is a Islamist region.
That's how the prosecutor put it.
When told he shot children,
the prosecutor says that Kevin T. did not regret it.
We also got more details on the suspect's apartment
and what police found there.
It was heavily booby trapped with gas canisters and electrical wires.
an attempt to explode the apartment
and to keep it from being accessible.
Police were able to get inside.
They found an array of weapons as well as stickers
for the far-right National Rally Party.
Finally, we got an update on the suspect's mental health status.
He has suffered from psychiatric issues, the prosecutor said,
since he was an adolescent, 13 years old.
He's been previously hospitalized in the past,
and he does take medication regularly to manage his mental illness.
However, the prosecutor said after being seen by a police psychiatrist,
a state psychiatrist,
it has been determined that he does
not need to be hospitalized at this time.
So for now, the investigation into the attack continues for murder,
attempted murder, in collaboration with a terrorist enterprise.

which took place in the western suburbs of Paris last week.
