I was just informed that it's trick-or-treat day here in our building.
Where's our treat?
Well, where's our trick?
Leo, don't touch that one.
Roll the open.
Here we go.
And
just
in
case
for
you
busybodies
watching
at
home,
even though we didn't run the Falun open, she still works here.
She still works here, that's right, yeah.
Where's Falun?
Anyway, welcome to the show, everybody.
first up today did you hear about
this a dream dream cruise vacation ends in a nightmare for
passengers thank you audience listen to this listen
as you guys might have heard about this
two years ago it was called a never-ending cruise
and it's set yeah well and it's set
sail featuring lifetime suites and a trip around the world
and the price tag more than two hundred
thousand dollars well this week
the never-ending cruise ended that's right
whoops whoops right uh rising fuel costs shut
it down leaving people on board stranded in
cambodia random monthly gas prices nearly
quadrupled in parts of asia the company is
helping people find hotels
that's right wow thanks yeah imagine imagine spending 20 grand
to live on a ship forever only to end up
at a courtyard in cambodia yeah a marriott you know
anyway next you've seen running races you've seen
car races but probably nothing like this
women in scotland took part in a race running on their hands
oh no i could watch that all day long
the handstand race was won
by a woman once dubbed
the fittest woman in the uk that's right she won running on her hands
and i get winded putting on
socks that's right yeah right i get winded bowling ladies
and gentlemen ladies and gentlemen i love
more than my luggage it's Falun everyone
hello beautiful how you doing good okay
the first thing
I asked you this morning is how's your tennis elbow
because you had bowling last night yeah
it was the return of the bowling league uh last
night fall bowling league the bold and the
beautiful um you'll see a little bit of it
a little bit later my thank you for asking about
my medical condition my tennis elbow is I'm
a little sore today I'm a little yes thank you
audience thank you i don't i don't i don't know how i'm going
to be able to do the show today i
don't know it's a little sore yeah yeah the show
is the issue now are we addressing colin later or
now we are uh how you mean what fallon's referring
to is my husband has joined the cast of our
bowling league and yeah we will yeah we will address it
a little bit later okay uh you will
see because my fear was my fear is was colin is just naturally athletic
and well look at me i'm
not you know what i mean
and he beats me at everything i don't care if it's ping pong
bean bags yeah uh the disney ride uh uh mid
no seriously midway mania yeah he beats me at
everything so when he joined the the cast
of the bowling league i thought oh god this is not going
to be good for my home life you know what i mean
so you'll see how i recorded it yesterday at
the at the it was really busy
though oh good oh my goodness you guys said that you heard rumor
that fall was the bigger like attendance bowling league well
also i didn't know i didn't know
there's so many gay people that bowl yeah because yeah
because there was another league there's our
league and then a producer bjorn is on my team bjorn looks over
and he goes look at that there's
another gay bowling league
so many leagues i didn't hear about this at headquarters i didn't
you know when we have our meeting yeah
so it was like i was like look at him it was like raining
lesbians it was just like falling
from the sky wonderful you know it was fantastic that sounds
fun yeah and i will say bjorn i love the name
of our bowling team uh we are called the bold
b-o-w-l-e-d the bold and the beautiful trademark uh
and i thought i thought we had a good name
bjorn told me there's a new team in our league
are you ready for what their name is strike a pose
oh that's good isn't that good you're
a vogue person i'm a vogue person so i want to find
bjorn were they playing last night i didn't see them i looked
at all the boards no okay
yeah find them eventually we got
to find them eventually yeah okay i want to explain something
you know i made uh because people notice
everything again okay watch yesterday's show
um people notice when we run different opens
if there's a vase people notice everything on this
set and they get online with their typewriter
and they're like i don't like that i want to explain
i want to explain what this is now um because i used
to have different things up here and people
complain about it and whatever i want to explain there's
a little um sentimental sentimentality
to this nameplate and it's my name
and if you're thinking jason you're gonna forget your name uh
yeah I know now let me explain this is means a lot to me
and I just found it I started in
television in 1997 um yeah I started at a station here
in Minneapolis everyone's like oh you old yeah yeah
you the audience thought I was a little younger
no no I'm as old as I look anyway but I started
at a station uh called WCCO here in the uh
in the Minneapolis area it's a CBS station
And I was very I was so excited to work there. I was told by someone
that you go to Minneapolis because it's a good TV market.
So literally, I packed up my Dodge Neon in October of 90 and I'm
not kidding and drove to Minneapolis and moved here and started a life.
And I looked up in the newspaper.
Well, I went to for a jog on my first day here
and I went jogging and I lived right by the station.
so i looked in the newspaper and that's back
when you looked in the newspaper for jobs and
they were looking for an overnight yeah right i know kids are like what
but you did you looked
for jobs and anyway i looked in the newspaper
and this station uh was looking for an overnight
dispatcher from midnight to 8 a.m
and a dispatcher for the news department you just listen to police
scanners and when there's crime oh you like report
on it no you call the reporter in and you go
hey uh frederica uh which was actually a reporter
that i worked with frederica freiberg i go
frederica there's uh you know there's a zebra
on the loose uh come report on it or whatever i would
hear on the scanners anyway i paid
my dues i worked midnight to 8 a.m for about six yeah it
was brutal but i but guys i was so Aaron Schwabs heard me tell
this a thousand times i was so
grateful i loved i grew up on my favorite show is a show called Dallas
and Knots Landing and that
was on CBS and i was so obsessed with CBS
and i was a kid that loved television and even though
i loved johnny and i loved mb i was obsessed with CBS
so even though i was the lowest of the low
of the low at this tv station the fact
that my paycheck had the CBS eye on it you would have
thought you would have thought i was the president
of the united states i was so excited i was so
grateful i really was i remember getting
that first check for like 30 dollars and and calling
my friends at home going i got a check
and the CBS eye is on it and it just meant so much well
this name plate was on my first desk in my first job on on television
and i just found it
and this was back in the day
when tv stations could afford fancy things like this yeah
yeah yeah yeah not anymore anyway
so that's what this is so you'll see it on the desk and just know
that's uh uh part of my history of of television here
and it just means a lot to me and uh and if
i ever do forget my name i'll just go oh there it
is yeah there we go make it easy for you
there's my name yeah so that's what that is smart
that you thought to keep things like that because
i feel like so many of us probably have something
and it's just like we didn't even think to keep it
so then it's just it's yeah i don't think i
was supposed to take this oh yeah yeah because the
plate you can take this plate off
and put a new employee oh right i think i stole this from CBS
Yes, I did.
I think, yeah.
Yeah.
Sorry.
Too late.
Come after me, Allisons.
Come after me.
We're going to take a break.
The hot dish when we return.
Back in a moment.
Dishes are coming up next.
When we return, Jennifer Lawrence sits down with Call Her Daddy.
I just don't make plans.
And Dexter.
You're having a midlife crisis.
I'll pay for that.
Turns 20.
Then, the Thrifty Traveler team is here
with everything you need to know about holiday
travel deals and they're going to try to answer
the question: are high airline ticket prices here
to stay that and more
when the Jason Show
continues i gotta
say a lot happened
in that
commercial break um and the first thing is i want
to acknowledge there's a lovely woman in the
audience from Alaska for heaven's sake breast she
is a breast cancer survivor and thriver and
warrior right there that's right Palmer Alaska
to Duluth that's right uh this is her first time
on tv she's going to a wild game and uh
and that is uh say hi to Shelly everybody that's Shelly
and uh we got a coven of witches here too
that's right yeah yeah we got them too i'm not upset by
that that's great uh yeah and and uh
and they all speak in unison that's right i asked them a
question and they all said the answer
at the same time it kind of freaked me out a little bit but
that uh i bet they're fun to party
with yeah let's get started everybody it's time for the
hot dish here we go the hottest stories
and entertainment and we call it the hot dish
first up a new take on one of the most talked about movies
of the fall even if you haven't
seen the documentary you can see everything
about Elizabeth Holmes you've probably seen
the uncomfortable clips of her being interviewed
by the director look at this get what is she Drew
Barrymore i mean uh get back separate
from each other uh being interviewed by director Nathan
Fielder they're way too close
and she's way too intense well last night on the Tonight Show
Falun put his own spin on the movie
with special guest Jamie Lee Curtis be honest
do you really want to be on the show tonight
of course i do i love talking to you
so you're not just here to promote
your new show Blue Bloods
no i'm engaging
with you
as a human being why
would i deceive you
it's real good i uh let me say you know
um fallon fallon's ratings in the Tonight Show
So, you know, it was constantly getting beat by Colbert
and sometimes Kimmel.
Jimmy Falun, I just read in Variety, is on the upswing.
Oh, good.
And I think it's because they've retooled the show a little bit,
and Jimmy is doing more bits like that, like pre-taped bits.
Well, and he should.
I mean, that's what he's good at.
He looks like Nathan, too, in that.
That was very good.
Okay, and I got to say, my friend, you've seen it.
But Colleen saw it from my radio show, and now my executive producer
and friend, Holly Roberts, from the radio show has seen it.
And they are both yelling at me to go see this movie.
You're so into pop culture, I don't even
understand how you haven't gone to see it yet.
Tennis elbow.
I'm very, I just, yeah, I'm very, yeah.
Is it preventing you from getting the popcorn intake?
What's happening?
I know, yeah, right?
Okay.
Curtis, by the way, Jamie Lee's out promoting
her new sitcom on NBC called Newlyweds.
And of course, she talked about her classic movie, Halloween, as well.
Because, hello, it's Halloween time.
And she revealed something about the movie that she just learned.
Watch this.
The song that he wrote in like a day, he did the entire score
on a synclavier or some sort of synthesizer, was something called 5/4.
Okay, I don't know what it is, but he learned it on bongos.
5/4 meter, like it would be.
wait wait wait can we
hear the Halloween
movie theme that was
my my first ringtone
was that no no i'm serious that would have been great
but remember when we could get ringtone oh
yeah yeah remember that uh
and get this some of you knew this the screen you know she was
kids out there jamie lee curtis in the 80s
was referred to as the screen queen uh jamie lee
actually hates scary movies she hates scary
movies i'm gonna guess a lot of people who's
actually star in them do not enjoy them halloween
is my all-time favorite scary movie that and the
exorcist yeah really oh i love i think the original
to this day i think the original halloween is just
frightening okay uh low budget uh
not any fancy effects it i i rewatched it most halloweens
scares me to death still
to this day i haven't seen it since i was a child
i need to re-watch it as an adult you should yeah uh next
back to where it all
started jennifer lawrence just confirmed
that she's returning as katniss everdeen
in the new movie the hunger games sunrise
on the reaping um the movie is a prequel to the first
movie so i i it's just not clear how she's gonna show up wouldn't she
be a kid i don't know it
opens november 20th and it's already getting good
reviews i i didn't read the books i watched all
the movies i liked them i don't know how she could
be in there unless at the end or something
there's a flash forward kind of thing
or maybe throughout there's a flash forward i don't know
um i tried so hard to be in these because everyone
was so obsessed with them so i read the first one
i went and saw the movie and i was like all right
i like jennifer lawrence and then i tried to watch
a second i was like this is not it for me i they i feel like
the popularity of hunger games and
twilight were around the same time
and your girl was a twihard okay i'm more of a twilight i know
a lot of people boo that and i respect it
so it's it's just not my thing katniss everdeen my french
bulldog he is like a little fat little sausage
um i call him Fatness Everdeen that's what i go yeah
come here little Fatness Everdeen jennifer confirmed
the news on the latest call her
Daddy podcast and during the interview she
also talked about how she's different from her husband
when it comes to canceling plans.
If he wants to get out of something he just says like hey
can't tonight you know goodbye like I can't even like but he's direct
and I'm just like I broke
my foot on a piece of glass we're rushing
to the hospital there's a tornado in this city for the
first time in decades like it's just always
so long and dramatic because I need to make it
believable but now I've gotten into a new place
in my life where I just don't make plans I just
say no to absolutely everything
and I haven't seen anyone in my life for years I get it it's a great
idea yes Lauren says her favorite thing
to do when plans fall through is just to sit with her
husband in silence while they both scroll
with their on their phones yeah duh that's an honest
answer. That's a very honest answer.
There is nothing better than when you make plans audience
and they cancel and then you don't have to,
you can stay in your soft pants and you just, yeah,
you don't have to brush your hair or anything.
It's so good. Yeah. Jen also revealed the biggest
misconception about her and the paparazzi.
You know, the number one thing that I will read
sometimes when I'm scrolling through comments
and I see that people say this about other celebrities
to, and it really drives me crazy,
is when people think that celebrities have called
and staged paparazzi pictures. Let's talk about this.
It is so infuriating, because I'm like, what's more likely?
Let's play this out. What is more
likely? That I live in the same building every day of my life,
and they know where that is?
Or, before I leave the house, I'm like, hold on,
I have mismatching socks and a messy bun.
And I have to call this guy.
I don't know how to drop a pin. Who would I call?
You know what, Jen, and I'm gonna help you out here.
And it doesn't help my career. No.
No. I mean,
a lower level celebrity than Jennifer Lawrence
absolutely calls the paparazzi. But yeah,
I do agree that Jennifer Lawrence probably isn't.
Yeah, Jeff, what did you say she also admitted?
What did she reveal? You just told me, I know, oh
My god, we're both old. You literally just told me we
both forgot. Take us to the hospital now, yeah, oh she
also said that she fights with strangers on
the internet like under like a different like
a yeah under a different name, okay gotcha, I've never done that
Well, not under a fake Instagram, just under
your own. I don't have a fake Instagram, I will tell you
I have a fake email address that I sometimes,
yeah, I will sometimes send an email.
Sometimes.
Good for you.
Yeah.
I'll be like, boop, boop, boop, send.
Good for you.
But yeah, the fake account, I don't do that.
I'm not going to waste my time on that.
I'll just fight with them here on the show.
You know what I mean?
Yeah.
And I respect that.
Right.
I just did yesterday.
Yeah.
Anyway, yeah.
You should get your own show.
It's a lot of fun.
Anyway, let's talk TV.
Next up, only one day to go until the return
of one of my all-time favorite TV characters.
Season 2 of Dexter Resurrection premieres Friday
on Paramount Plus with Showtime.
It's the third series in the Dexter franchise.
And this month, friends,
actually marks 20 years since the first Dexter made its debut.
Yeah, on Showtime, Michael C. Hall and the cast and creators talk
to Entertainment Weekly about how the show has lasted so long.
Michael says he didn't want to do the show
at first after just finishing the HBO hit Six Feet Under,
but changed his mind after reading the script.
He also admits the first ending of the show was bad.
The first series finale, oh, don't get me started.
And it's part of the reason that they brought the show back.
I loved Dexter, the original.
You hear me say it on the show.
I think the first four seasons are some
of the best television in the last 25 years.
So good.
But after that, and that series finale was a flaming turd.
I don't even remember it.
I don't even remember it.
It's been so long.
It's horrible.
Yeah, but I did.
I mean, but I love the resurrection.
This is just season two, right?
It's just season two.
Yeah, so first season was very good.
I was like, oh, we were immediately back in.
Back in.
well and that's because the original showrunner Clyde Phillips
is back okay he left not to get
too nerdy but the creator left the show after season four
and you could tell it went right down
the crapper tell that's like what happened in Gilmore Girls
when the like creators left the
show you immediately noticed
because everything changed in the worst way really because I've never
watched Gilmore Girls that's the truth it happened yeah there
was like a season everyone's like we
don't we don't associate with this season we act like it didn't exist
because it just didn't fit
the rest of the show well you know and Michael C. Hall is funny
because he was in one of the worst
finales dexter but he was also in what i consider
the best series finale of any television show and
that's his show Six Feet Under we had
a more uh thank you jeff for clapping at that yeah we had
a mortician on our radio show this week
and she said that Six Feet Under is one of the most like
accurate like portrayals of what morticians actually
do in television Falun may i ask you
something yeah yeah um i have a radio show too
um it actually competes against you um
Can I ask why you had a mortician on your show? Sure you can. Okay.
so a week of Halloween but also
we do a segment called No Dumb Questions where we have
an expert on where you have like a ton
of questions for someone
because it's like how did you become a mortician and why and like does
a body actually move when you're doing stuff
at the end has you ever experienced a ghost what
happens with their eyes you know you have like lots
of these weird questions like so many weird
questions so we had her on and it just called it
no dumb questions it was so interesting I am
totally stealing that idea yeah it
was really interesting yeah she was good her name was Lily
I promise I'll air my version like the day after you air
your version there we go that's right
you can listen to Falun's radio show wherever you get
your podcast search for Falun Colton
And Jenny and my radio show, you know,
listen to hers first, the Jason Matheson Show with
Colleen Lindstrom.
We'll be right back.
Back in a moment.
She was good.
That's a great idea.
Yeah, she was fun.
Stand up to Trump.
Well, you could call it the year of the three-hour movie.
First, we have The Odyssey.
That was a huge hit this past summer,
despite being two hours and 53 minutes.
That one earned nearly $2 billion.
And the documentary that I already mentioned,
You Can See Everything, is about the same length.
And it turns out all movies are getting longer.
You're not imagining it.
Film researcher Stephen Follows looked
at more than 36,000 movies dating back to around 1980
and found that the average movie today
is at least eight minutes longer.
some directors say fans are now expecting longer run times
to make it worth the effort of leaving
their house getting out of their soft pants
and uh yeah um they're wrong okay no they're wrong
that's interesting because in music it's gone
the exact opposite songs have gotten dramatically
shorter so that's interesting
but you don't have to leave your house to listen to a song so i do
you like a longer movie if it's something i really want
to see i accept it but i usually
still like you they could have trimmed 15
to 30 minutes out of that you know so that's what i mean
i on average when i think a movie
is too long i always say they could have trimmed 10 to 15
and here they are making movies eight minutes
longer stop it yeah i don't i don't like when
it feels like they rushed a movie to fit it
in no but yeah i mean you know what they could trim
the previews yeah that's right yeah they could there's
a half hour of previews and then the
movie and if the movie's clocking in at two
and then you got a half hour i mean you know and i've
chugged through a large diet coke at that point
and i'm telling you right now yeah i'm hitting
the bathroom twice during a three-hour movie well
and colleen was telling me with you can see
everything she goes you can't pee i did
and then i was like and i missed an important part of my
See, that's what she said.
She goes, Jason, you can't go to the bathroom.
I'm like, she was, I think you have to wear a diaper or something.
I mean, yeah.
Yeah.
Highly recommend a diaper.
Great.
I'll, I'll, that'll be wonderful.
Yeah.
Well, that's the dish next.
I mentioned last night,
it was the start of season two of my gay bowling league.
My team, that's right.
Our team, cause producer Bjorn is on my team.
Our team is called the Bold and the Beautiful trademarked.
trademarked uh i took some time last night
to get to know our new team watch
this so Bj how do you
think the season premiere is going
so far you know we had a really strong start second game but
we're making some progress you did you get
a strike i got a couple strikes always our weakest
yes this
is Morgan
Morgan
and two of
the bold
of your
performance
a strike
your
debut
is much
better than i think so two spares
and a strike in the first game
which pulled that well season two
you know i think we might
for an Emmy we're assuming this year
No Emmys for the bowling
yeah so Colin was significantly better
or just a little bit better than you because you were you
were curious well everything you said
you how dare you how dare you who pulls a 140 in
their first game he does
and again he comes from a long lineage uh my mother-in-law was a pool
hustler and a bowler uh
so he does that yeah now i now i came from a long line of bingo players
uh so i could i i could whip his butt
my mom played 40 44 cards at one time so that's right
that was like under the eye
and then again my mom would have me this was back in the 70s and 80s
when they didn't care my mom would have me
in a bassinet if this was her bingo table i'm here in
the bassinet and she's uh she has a dobber
in one hand she has a cigarette in another and she's
dobbing and then rocking me you know like that you know that was dark
but yeah uh Colin uh Colin
got a 140 i was um i think i got a 126 oh
that was yeah you're right there and then little and
And then Beatrice B, Bjorn had a fabulous game, too.
What was your score?
126.
Nice job, Bjorn.
Yeah, so we did pretty good.
That's really good.
I know we have to go because, Drifted Traveler, I am now obsessed.
I want to get a custom bowling ball.
It's time.
It's your second season.
It is time.
I want to get a little ball, a little ball shiner.
I want a little, so I got to get a, I want a Star Wars ball.
And I got, but I don't know how you drill the fingers in.
i have so many questions but i just if you want
to sponsor the show call the sales department
we'll be right back with the Thrifty Traveler back
in a moment sponsor the bowling league
you get a bowling league sponsor on your shirt i
do yes we're going to enjoy this episode
look look here's the deal uh our show
is ridiculous i mean hello we just talked about
gay bowling for six minutes
but sometimes uh we give you news you can use and this is one of those
days if you've been trying to book
a flight recently you know the sticker shock is real
airfares have spiked
and that's making many people re-evaluate their holiday travel here
with more give it up for the host
of the wildly popular Thrifty Traveler podcast Kyle Potter and
Gunner Olson everyone okay boys how you doing
we're here you can be a little more excited kyle
Do you want us to be excited about what you just said about airfare?
No, no, just I want you to be excited for being here.
Okay, let's just cut it right.
Let's just get right to it.
I want both of your takes on this.
We're all wondering this.
And I know you don't have crystal, you know, you're not psychics.
You're not Latoya Jackson.
But here we go.
These higher flight prices, like, let me give you an example.
I just tried to book freaking Orlando.
Hello, Orlando viewers.
a thousand dollars for basic for basic
in steerage i'm back by the bathrooms
are these flight prices here to stay your your thought
for now yeah this is the new normal and
i don't think it's going to change anytime soon i mean
the elephant in the room is what we're all
seeing at gas pumps across the country across
the state wherever you are and that is affecting
airlines i think the bigger thing
is that this is what airlines have wanted to do like forever
they want nothing more than to charge us all
the highest prices possible and the combination of
higher fuel prices and the lack of competition
from airlines like Spirit which no longer exists
and other budget airlines just gives them more wiggle room
to do what they want to do which is
charge you a thousand dollars to get down
to orlando sitting in the lavatory um thank you
Gunner, you looked up in the air when Kyle started talking.
Do you have an additional thought on this?
Well, I think I could be a little rosier than Kyle on this one.
We have a good cop, bad cop thing, so it's good that we're both here.
He's right that high airfare is going to be here for now
and probably through the holidays.
But I think in airfare, there's always more competition down the line.
I don't think that we're going to be stuck in this forever.
And right now, there are still little things you can do.
tweak your trip by one day or take that really early morning flight
and you can shave a couple
hundred dollars off your flight pretty easily look
at him being positive you know what kyle this is
this is why we hired him this is why he's here okay
but you said this in one of your appearances
and i'm so glad that you did when
and it's too late it's it's we can't do anything about it now
when people were celebrating
and laughing at the demise of Spirit Airlines this this what even if
you never flew with Spirit Airlines,
that wasn't good news and it's not good news. Why? Can you
expand on that a little bit more?
I mean, there are two things that drive flight prices up and
down. Supply and demand. Are there more people trying
to travel than there are seats to fill?
That is going to drive prices up.
If there are fewer people traveling and there are seats open,
that's going to drive prices down.
But the biggest thing is competition. Competition between airlines,
especially like a city here
in minneapolis where there's one game in town it is delta
they can get away with charging whatever they want
because there is not a meaningful alternative and
what spirit did for two plus decades is they gave
that meaningful alternative where you could fly
to phoenix for 96 round trip or less
and without that in the market it just means that Delta and
American and Southwest and United can charge even more
because there isn't that alternative that's
cheaper even if you didn't want to take
that flight it forced airlines to compete for price
Gunner any positive from that we need we need
healthy low-cost airlines even if you don't like
to fly them having them around is the key
to getting cheaper flights on Delta on United and
on American it's a sad reality unfortunately
that the airlines are consolidating they're merging and
getting together and that's just reducing competition
so next time you see a really
good low-cost carrier airfare maybe try
and book it yeah support those those folks uh more with
Kyle and Gunner when we return back
in a moment everyone more travel talk holiday deals and more
when you should book your holiday travel welcome back
the Thrifty Traveler the podcast find them
wherever you get your podcast for the best
the best travel there's uh the the best travel advice
I tell the studio audience every time,
whenever I meet people, I love to talk travel.
I tell everyone the good deals that I get because of the tricks
and clues that these guys have taught me over the years.
Okay, let's teach someone something
because I don't think a lot of the people watching know this.
Will you explain the 24-hour flight cancellation rule?
Absolutely.
After you book a flight, as long as it touches U.S. soil in some way,
you have 24 hours to cancel that flight for a full refund.
which gives you kind of carte blanche to uh make a decision quickly
when you see a really low fare
if you do get a deal in your inbox
or somewhere you see that low fare you book it right away
and then you go ask questions later i go
to my boss i ask him for time off i go to my wife yeah
he says no i go to my wife and ask her if she wants
to come it gives you a little extra time
to make decisions after that but book that deal right as you see it
because you always have 24
hours to cancel for a full refund no matter what
an audience don't i know what you're thinking
going oh that Gunner he doesn't know what he's doing
no, that there has to be some asterisk
there's no ifs ands or buts about it that you get
a I've done it, I bought a flight, we'll talk about
it, we're taping an additional episode with the guys
that'll air next Friday, I know I've told
this a couple times, I literally saw a deal
that they posted an amazing deal to Europe and I had
to buy that ticket before I walked out
of the curtain of the show, the open was on, this the
theme song was going and I booked it
because I knew if something I could, I had 24 hours to ask
questions, yeah it's one what all you know
that that brings me to something not on the card but
I was thinking other than that, what what is another thing
that when you guys are out in public and you
talk to people what's another trick
or a rule that people don't know that they should that can help
them, I don't know if it's a trick or a rule
but the thing that I try to hammer home with people
is that there is really truly only one silver bullet
for traveling more for less and it's
flexibility and flexibility, you say it all the time
on the show, flexibility can be as simple as
departing on a Tuesday instead of on a Monday
or returning on a Saturday instead of on a Sunday
because just those little tweaks can save
you, I mean especially over the holidays
hundreds of dollars per ticket
if you're talking about a long-haul trip abroad
you could save thousands of dollars per ticket
and then flexibility can be more
of not traveling during you know say
from July until mid-August or so because
that is always when it's most expensive
to travel flexibility can be going to
places where you're going to find a better deal
or using a tool like Google
flights Explore where you pull up a map of the country
or even the world and you
see exactly how cheap it can
be in the cheapest places to fly whatever version
of flexibility you can add
to your travel planning equation that is the key to saving
everything else is just kind of extra i'm gonna
my next question i'm gonna shoot to positive Polly
over here because it'll give you
an opportunity you know piggybacking off what we said in the
beginning the negative higher flight prices are everywhere
and it's going to be here for a little
while so let me ask you can you still find good deals
though yeah absolutely i mean we find good
deals all the time i book good deals all the time
and that's because i'm looking for routes like we
mentioned before where there's
a little competition maybe where i know that flying here from MSP i
know that Delta has a competitor on that route
that could help keep fares down i'm also you know
more more willing than ever to maybe take
a connection if it means that flying another
airline i can save a couple hundred dollars on my fare
but you know especially if you're willing to
fly like Kyle said a little flexibly fly midweek tuesday
or wednesday you're always going to get
the cheaper fare if you try
and fly on sunday you're going to pay for it flying on sundays is
the worst i avoid it like the plague is sunday
is the worst yeah always almost always yeah oh
as someone that flies on sunday believe i know well
and before we have to take a break another
37,000 feet question about the industry
because you guys know so much and you're in it this push
because you said something that made me go oh
because it seems counterintuitive but the airlines
have been twisting their mustache for years waiting
for this moment to charge us as much as
they can does this go uh does this go lockstep
with their desire especially Delta for going after
a premium customer are they just
are they just forgetting economy travel travelers for the most
part yes there's there's still always going
to be wins whether it's because of competition
or because you're flying with an airline
that maybe cares less about that premium customer
but all of the emphasis across
the entire airline industry right now is chasing those people
who are traveling more,
who have more disposable income to spend on travel, and maybe most
importantly, who have disposable income
that they're willing to spend on that airline's credit
card, because that is increasingly where they make their money.
So it all kind of rounds into
this equation of that is what they want.
That is their ideal customer. Everybody else is kind of
secondary to the airlines right now.
You said it on the show, and we'll get to deals. You said
it way better than I did.
Delta Airlines is basically a credit card company that has some
airplanes exactly and and Delta is maybe
the poster child of that they're the poster child
of that but they are not alone everybody else is in that same boat
and again it just means you have
to be more flexible in order to find those better deals
because like Gunner said they are out there
airfare is not a monolith no just
because you saw a thousand dollars going down to Orlando later
this winter could change a day by a day
or two it might be 800 it might be 500 it might be 500 yeah
uh or last minute fare up and i always love that you
do this off the top of your head you're like
the servers that don't write down the order
and you scare me but give me give uh give some folks
some deals off the top of your head yeah maybe we'll both
do too uh we just our team just found
this amazing deal to fly Delta One Suites from Minneapolis
and across the country really to
basically anywhere in Western Europe as well as Marrakesh
and Morocco for 97,000 SkyMiles each
way that's typically 400, 500,000 SkyMiles each way
and then a series of domestic ground trips to
Nashville, D.C., Chicago, Fort Myers, Sarasota, and Destin, Florida
for under $200 round trip, all on Delta nonstop.
Give me one there, Gunnar.
We've got to go, but give me one.
I'll add one.
Seattle to Oslo, $476 round trip, an unbelievable deal.
$476?
That's right.
It might be worth going to Seattle just to grab that deal.
You should go to Oslo instead of Orlando.
They don't have Disney there.
Anyway, give it up for Kyle and Gunnar, everyone.
