Donald Trump and Republicans know that they will be held accountable
and the people will have spoken to bring that together.
So I just want to leave this impression
with you as I call out Abdul to come out.
You know, you're working hard.
You're going to get out there. You're going to knock doors.
You're going to talk to your friends and neighbors.
We're going to run through the tape.
I think, you know, things don't don't
believe anything you're hearing out there.
It is close, certainly. And I say part of the reason I know it's close.
I was just talking to Abdul.
ugliness of what the Republicans are doing, let's
be clear, it is despicable the way they're running
their campaign, it has no place in an American democracy
to try to tear down somebody with lies
we are better than that as a country, we
are better than that, we believe that
America is stronger when we are united
when we stand together we are stronger when we
believe everybody has a chance to have a voice
and to represent this great country
My mother was an immigrant.
She came to this country, married my father.
My father, we traced back those roots,
actually, to the Revolutionary War.
My forefather was with George Washington at Valley Forge.
My mother is an immigrant, and I said, that is America.
I am proud to be the son of an immigrant
and the son of the American Revolutionary War.
That is America.
As you are out there, as you are out
there knocking and putting your heart,
And your soul into this race, for Jim and all of the whole
Democratic ticket and Jocelyn Benson and all the amazing folks.
I'm just so happy to be here with Abdul.
You know, I've had the privilege of representing Michigan in Congress
for 18 years, which has been the honor of my life to do that.
Thank you.
And I decided two years ago, you know,
the reason I'm not running is that I thought back of our founders,
the folks who put this amazing constitutional republic together for us.
And they believe members of Congress should go and serve in Congress
and then go back to their private life, not stay their whole life.
So that's what I'm doing. I went to their private life.
But the reason I thought it was a good time, because of two things.
We have an amazing bench of great young Democrats in this state.
We want to make sure that they have an opportunity to serve
and to represent everybody in this amazing place that we call home.
I'm particularly excited right now to be supporting one
of those great candidates who will be the next Senator.
