This is no ordinary violin...
Inspired by a rare 19th-century violin-shaped match safe, I decided to bring this forgotten piece of history back to life — but this time, entirely by hand and from metal.
Vesta cases, also known as match safes, were small containers used to carry and protect matches. They became popular during the 19th century, and craftsmen created them in a fascinating variety of shapes, from simple boxes to decorative objects and even musical instruments.
For this project, I recreated this idea on a much smaller scale and made a miniature metal violin inspired by these fascinating Victorian-era objects.
No shortcuts — just metal, hand tools, and a lot of patience.
A tiny piece of history, brought back to life.
