Hey, it's Matsupati. How are you?
Today's going to be a little bit different. I am introducing our
comic book club. Yay! I keep talking about it,
but I was trying to prep to see how or what type
of format I want to do this. I came up with a few ideas.
I may switch it throughout the,
you know, maybe the next video.
The comic book that we're going to do is by Image Comic. It's
It's called Blackbird and of course I have my notes
because we're going to go
with uh three different issues. the last one i think i read
was on january 9th okay. blackbird
it is written by sam humphries and the amazing
artist jen bartel. this is like a neo-noir fantasy.
it's dark. it has criminal activities. so m
for mature. okay guys so if you're gonna read with
A little cursing.
and for mature so i'm going to rate this okay
so what makes this a good comic well for one if you
look at the actual front page of the first issue
the art is beautiful throughout the whole issue
one two and three oh my goodness jen bartel very
oh outdone herself clean lines so vivid love the
I'll give you three reasons why I feel
that y'all should read this with me.
It's actually fun to read, and you can relate to this, okay?
You can like, yeah, that can happen,
but in a fantasy world, of course, okay?
And is it well-written?
Yes.
Sam Humphreys.
Well-written, I'm telling you.
Okay?
Goodness gracious.
Where do I start?
Let me see.
I already told you about the illustration.
It's amazing, okay?
Stories about family.
you have family bond
which is great, the two sisters, you know, um Nina and Marissa, you'll
see that, I'll talk a little bit more about
that, um I feel it's a story within the story, okay
which is really really good
so I want to read a little bit about, um, the first issue, oh this
little girl she eventually grows up
of course Nina thinks there's a secret magical world
You know, underneath LA.
Everybody thinks she's crazy.
Everything's so crazy, but she's not, she's not crazy guys.
Just let you know there is a magical world under there
But her version is she think everything is, you know, magic is cool
Remember, it's a neo-noir fantasy and hope I said
that right. Okay, first issue you see
Look, you know family ties and then there's an earthquake
So Marissa and her sister, you know, is in trouble. They're under this
large, you know, bridge. I'll just give you the highlights.
I can't tell you everything, but
all of a sudden, big beautiful beast. Come on.
Beautiful. I'm telling you, when you look at that,
you're like, wow. I said that too. I know.
I know. And they kind of erase everybody's mind,
but Nina pretends that she doesn't remember.
Well, it's a twist, right? Do you think she's crazy?
Which is awesome.
Alright, we're going to pass the first issue.
The second issue, this is where you see a lot of the sister bond.
You know, she's older now.
She has issues.
Okay, she has a job.
She hates it.
She's popping pills.
Probably depressed.
But hey, I'm telling you, if you feel that there's,
you know, the fantasy world, there's issues going
on and everybody thinks you're crazy, you'll be popping pills too.
Which don't do, by the way.
Okay?
That was the disclaimer. Now, issue two.
She works at this bar, okay? There's this guy who
comes in. He has some really cool shoes.
When you read this, you'll see, okay? You'll see he
eventually will come to play.
So since she's popping pills and just depressed, guess what
That's what happened.
Her sister goes missing.
What is going on?
So when I was reading this, I was like,
it made me think back to, you know, the first
issue.
Why did Sam Humphries called it Blackbird?
Just remember that because I was like, why?
What is this Blackbird?
So I was like, story within a story,
like I told you, okay, number excuse me, issue
three.
Oh my goodness.
This is where they are.
And the other side, you know, with the mystical world in trouble.
She's looking for her sister.
Goodness gracious.
You see some of the criminal activities going on.
And you're like, wow, this is not cool.
You're running for your life.
Which she is.
Somebody's trying to kill her.
And then guess what?
Boom!
Cliffhanger.
I tell y'all, but I can't.
You have to read it.
I was like...
My emotionals was everywhere and then when I read issue three,
I was like, no way.
Actually, it's high first issue.
I know.
So I wish I could tell you the cliffhanger, but I can't.
Okay, so I'm going to be reading the other three issues that,
you know, came out probably
this weekend.
But yes, if you want to catch up with the first three issues,
it's out already.
And then there's a link down at the bottom.
Read it with me.
I'm telling you guys, it is awesome, awesome.
I was not expecting this.
And plus it's short, which is great,
because I got other stuff I have to read too.
Yes, Blackbird is going to be an awesome comic.
I know, can't say much right now, but yeah.
Do me a favor guys, definitely leave a comment,
hit the like button, hit the sub,
and don't forget to hit the bell.
I need a comment so I can comment back for issue three.
Oh god, yes. Okay, so I will see you on the next video.
Jaa matinee!
