The water levels continue to rise at several valley washes tonight.
Yeah, one water rescue happening tonight near Hayden
and McCormick Parkway.
And that is where Nicole Christine is live tonight with more.
Nicole.
Yeah, good evening, Ellen and Mark.
It's been a busy night for the Scottsdale fire crews. I'm
joined with Captain Dave Folio.
And behind us, we have prime examples of these water rescues,
three different vehicles behind us.
Yeah, a lot of rain this morning, saturated the ground.
More rain came through about five through Phoenix,
Paradise Valley, Scottsdale.
The flood watches are out. Everybody knows about it.
We're having vehicles go around barricades.
We've been asking people through our social media not to do that.
It's a life-threatening
decision that you're making to do that.
Turn around, don't drown. We had five rescues going
on between seven and eight o'clock,
so our technical rescue crews were extremely busy.
Two in Paradise Valley, so the Phoenix crews were working that.
We had an incident up north where
Two incidents is actually up north where it
was just standing water, people driving to
standing water.
Really important, if you can't see the pavement,
don't drive into that water.
Could be a sinkhole, could be a manhole that moved,
could be a curb, could be anything.
So sometimes just stay inside, change your plans.
We know these rains are coming.
Had a vehicle enter this wash
and while we were here working, getting two people out
of one of the vehicles, another vehicle
from the west side went around one of our fire
trucks and drove into two to three feet of water.
This brings more resources here.
It takes a lot of resources.
We put people upstream,
downstream in case we lose one of our rescuers in the stream.
It's extremely dangerous through here.
They could get caught up on a bench, a tree, chains.
So we do that.
It takes a lot of resources.
Turn around, don't drown.
And remember, four to six inches
of water will sweep you off your feet and anything
more than that will start moving this vehicle back here.
So literally when you make that decision to go around a barricade
Or into these washes.
We hear the same thing every time, which amazes me too.
I always go that way.
No, please, not right now.
We have...
Over 17 crossings within the Indian Mine Wash.
It's doing what it's supposed to be doing.
It's a flood plain.
Other than that, it's a great place
to come ride your bike and shoot baskets.
But it's doing what it's doing.
Like I said, don't drive into our washes.
And be really careful because you could find yourself in traffic
and all of a sudden you can't stop
because you think that guy's going to bumper you.
But just slow down slowly.
Stop as soon as you can.
If you do find yourself in this situation, call 911.
Stay with the vehicle.
Don't get out of the vehicle.
Starts coming into the windows.
And then for whatever reason,
if it starts moving where you think it's going to roll over,
clear the vehicle and swim as hard as you can to the side.
Some really good advice there.
Thank you so much for your guys' work.
We'll send it back to you guys in the studio,
but an active night and some really good advice there.
Live in Scottsdale, Nicole Christine, Fox 10 News.
