Ukraine's military launched attacks on several facilities within Russia linked to Moscow's military-industrial complex, Russian Telegram media channels reported.
Explosions sounded and fires burned in the Russian city of Lipetsk following an attack by Ukrainian forces, Ukrainian monitoring channel Exilenova Plus reported.
A fire broke out in the area of the Novolipetsk Metallurgical Plant after air defenses were engaged, according to the monitoring channel. The plant supplies Russian defense companies that produce air defense systems, drones, missiles, and other weapons.
Ukraine has sanctioned the Novolipetsk Metallurgical Plant, while Canada and Australia have sanctioned Russian Billionaire Vladimir Lisin, who owns the site. Later in the night, Azot chemical plant in Novomoskovsk, located in Tula Oblast, caught fire following a reported Ukrainian attack. The plant has been repeatedly targeted by Ukrainian drones in recent months. Ukraine regularly strikes military targets deep within Russia and occupied territories in an effort to diminish Moscow's ability to continue waging its war.
Ukrainian forces attacked an ammunition depot in occupied Luhansk Oblast, setting off explosions at the site, monitoring channels reported. Strike drones targeted the site in an attack that took several hours near the city of Khrustalnyi, according to Exilenova Plus. Ukraine struck several targets, including a petrochemical plant and a warehouse in Siberia around 2,500 kilometers away from the border, monitoring channels reported.
Attack drones laid waste to the major industrial city of Voronezh, targeting a giant aircraft-making plant and a petrochemical complex. In one of Ukraine’s biggest strikes of the war on a single city, a prominent business centre and shopping complex tower was ignited in fire, and residential districts were seen ablaze, possibly from downed drones. Separately, a Ukrainian drone struck a freight train travelling from Russia to Belarus in the Bryansk region, killing the 44-year-old locomotive engineer. Unexplained explosions hit a fuel train on a line linked to the Trans-Siberian Railway - the world's longest non-stop train - in the Sverdlovsk region, igniting seven diesel wagons and derailing 20 carriages. An investigation into possible sabotage by pro-Ukrainian forces is under way. Petrochemical giant Voronezhsintezkauchuk, which has military links, was also hit in today’s devastating Ukrainian onslaught. The plant makes durable tyres for armoured personnel carriers, trucks and mobile launch systems, as well as landing gear wheels for combat aircraft, heat-resistant seals and hoses for tank engines and binding components for solid rocket fuel.
