Welcome to Fox 5 Morning at almost 8 o'clock on a Saturday morning,
looking live at the White House.
Bathe in sunlight because it is shining out there.
It's a gorgeous start looking anyway to the day.
It is cool out there, though, so be careful
if you're heading out thinking the sunshine is going to warm things up.
Not so much. It's still cool out there.
But what can you expect?
We're going to find out in just a bit
because Caesar Cornejo is talking about the weather outside.
It's not frightful.
No, it's not frightful.
But once the clouds start to come in,
it'll at least set the mood to be a little bit more spooky out there.
What if I wanted to have like a little brunch outside this?
I would say definitely wait until the sun gets up a little bit more,
starts to really settle in because that's where we start
to finally see that warmer air at least start to settle back in.
Right now it is quite chilly outside, so we continue to see that most
of us are sitting around in the 40s, so 49 degrees here at DCA.
You can see it's a very beautiful day out in Frederick,
continuing to see a lot of sunshine out there,
so we're going to need that sunshine to really settle in first
and then it starts to build in some of the warmth.
We just got sunrise, of course, now you continue
to see more of that warmth starting to slowly settle in.
If you're a little closer towards parts of the Chesapeake here
or any of the major waterways, right?
You can see temperatures slightly into the upper 40s,
but a lot of us are still stuck in the low 40s and even the upper 30s,
so certainly chilly outside, and we continue to really deal
with a lot of that cooler air thanks to that cold front last
night sliding through, bringing in not only that northerly flow,
but also those clearer skies that then just added and compounded
to the cooling temperatures that we woke up to this morning.
Most of us, though.
Seeing a lot of that high pressure system just allowing
for a few clouds to feed in.
Good thing is we're not expected to see much in the way of rain.
You can see over towards areas around
the Great Lakes already seeing a few rain showers.
We actually get spared from that.
We just deal with plenty of beautiful sunshine out there.
So that's going to be the best part about it.
So planner for today, expect
to see some sunshine throughout the rest of this morning
and then clouds slowly starting to build back
in here towards the second half of the day.
That's where we expect to see temperatures
also capped into the low 60s.
Once we get towards around noon,
that's where it's going to be a little bit nicer out there.
Some sunshine, temperatures finally back into the at least 60s.
So if you wanted to do a late brunch or if you wanted to,
you know, hang out outside a little before having
to go trick-or-treating, things of that sort.
Well, Maureen, don't worry. It is going to certainly warm up, at least
to be sitting outside and not sweating if you're wearing a sweater.
That's going to be the good thing.
We're going to talk more about what we have
going throughout the rest of this weekend
and even when we warm up here
into the new work week in just a couple of minutes.
Back to you.
Thanks, Caesar.
We're starting with some breaking news overnight.
One person is dead, several others in critical condition after
a shooting in Fairfield, California.
Officers say shots were fired at the Spirit Halloween store
in Fairfield just after 11.30 our time last night.
Police are confirming the seven people were shot in the attack.
Three victims were sent to the hospital.
They remain in critical condition this morning.
We have no further information regarding
the identity of the victims at this time.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the families
of the victims of this heartbreaking incident.
There is still a very active crime scene and investigation.
Investigators say detectives are speaking with witnesses
this morning as the search for a suspect continues.
Here at home, a gunman remains
on the run after shooting at a recreation center.
PG Park police say the shots were fired
at the Fort Foote Rec Center in Fort Washington.
This was around 7:30 last night.
They tell us a man was flown to the hospital in critical condition.
No suspect description at this hour.
A teenager arrested at Dulles International Airport
is awaiting extradition for a murder
in North Carolina.
Authorities say the 16-year-old was trying
to flee the country and get on a flight to
Ethiopia.
He's being charged with the murder of 68-year-old Pamela Shanks.
The teen is being held by Metropolitan Washington
Airport's authority police this morning.
An 18-year-old who was shot
and killed in Langley Park has been identified.
Omar Ajbo was found dead just before 11 Thursday morning.
Police say he was found dismembered by maintenance workers.
No word yet on the suspect or motive.
It was one of three deadly shootings
in Prince George's County on Thursday.
Recovery continuing for a suspect accused in a deadly bus stop murder.
D.C. police say the incident led to an officer-involved shooting
on Thursday along Minnesota Avenue.
They say William Chase Jr. shot
and killed Jefferson Moreno Jimenez around 5 a.m.
Police opened fire on Chase minutes later after
he allegedly shot towards another person.
It's something that we don't see a lot of in Fairfax County.
It's not an epidemic across the community, but it does occur.
And when we do see these incidents as they occur,
we want to bring attention not only to the case to inform our community
and certainly encourage safety measures
that could be taken to prevent a crime like this.
Fairfax County police are sharing
a warning after thieves stole $2,400 in a suspected bank
jugging scheme. Police believe the suspect watched
the victim withdraw cash from an Annandale bank
about a week ago and then followed them to a gas station.
And then while the victim was inside the
gas station, the suspect allegedly stole the money.
To avoid becoming a victim, police are
suggesting that you conceal cash
and avoid leaving money unattended in vehicles.
The legal battle over the future of the Kennedy Center continues.
Democratic Congresswoman Joyce Beatty filed a brief yesterday
opposing renewed efforts to close the historic venue for two years,
accusing officials of concealing key evidence
to mask financial mismanagement.
Beatty claims the trustees were never shown assessments
from their own construction manager showing closure was unnecessary.
She is asking a judge to keep renovations blocked
and bar any attempts to demolish the landmark.
A federal judge is now calling for an investigation
into whether the Justice Department attorneys
misled her about President Trump's plans to close
and renovate East Potomac golf course.
And that's not the only Trump project
facing legal scrutiny this morning.
Fox 5's Sharin Rajay is at East Potomac with the latest.
Yeah, President Trump wants to turn
this public golf course into a world-class
championship golf course. But the biggest question today
in federal court was not about renovations.
It was about whether or not the Justice Department
was being honest with the judge
about the president's plan.
And yes, today there was a lot of back and forth. It got tense at times
and the judge has now ordered
an independent investigation into the matter.
The judge is troubled and rightly so by these
misrepresentations that appear to have been made
and has appointed a special master to look into the matter.
It's an extraordinary course of conduct,
but it's part of a larger pattern.
So here's why the judge is raising questions.
President Trump announced
the course would close November 15th for a major overhaul.
But government attorneys initially told Judge Ana Reyes
no closure plan existed.
The DOJ has since acknowledged
the president directed officials to move forward.
So the judge has now appointed a special master
to conduct an independent investigation
into whether or not the DOJ attorneys misled the court.
Meantime, the judges also restricted further tree...
removal after hundreds were cut down.
And in another federal courtroom today, a separate
legal challenge to President Trump's proposed
250-foot arch near Arlington National Cemetery.
Opponents argue Congress must approve that project.
But back here at East Potomac,
golfers say there's more at stake than just a renovation.
This closes down golfers that want to come out, practice, play.
You're probably looking
in 40, 45 minutes as kind of...
the next best option. There's a lot of exclusive memberships
and exclusive places to play golf but
there's not many public courses
or places where everyone can come and enjoy it or even just sit
here and enjoy the views.
Now the Department of Justice has confirmed the November 15th closure
but still there's a lot of confusion out here whether
or not the legal back and forth
will actually allow them to move forward with that timeline.
Guys we'll send it back.
Fox 5's Shereen Rajay reporting.
As we take this live look at the White House, a major legal blow
to the administration with the midterms just three days away.
A federal judge has blocked the Trump administration
from threatening election workers
with criminal prosecution for counting certain ballots.
The emergency ruling bars federal officials
from pressuring local workers to sideline votes
and forces the Justice Department
to walk back previous warnings sent to local offices.
President Trump adding campaign rallies in Iowa
and Kansas to his schedule this weekend.
The president initially scrapped the two campaign events,
saying that he was opting instead to take his support online,
holding tele-rallies to back Republican candidates.
Well, this morning, both Iowa and Kansas have competitive Senate races,
and early voting there is up about 30 percent
from last midterm election.
Here at home today is the final day

to note if you do choose to vote by absentee mail or drop-off.
We'll

And remember, we are going to have election coverage all day Tuesday,
but our election coverage begins

Top diplomats from around the world are gathered
in Atlanta today for a high-stakes two-day
G20 ministerial summit. U.S. Secretary
of State Marco Rubio is hosting foreign leaders to tackle
major global security challenges,
including conflicts in Iran and also Ukraine. Police
have shut down several city streets surrounding the talks,
deploying canine units and drones to
secure the perimeter before the G20 summit heads to Miami in December.
It's wonderful. I mean,
our organization has been around over 60 years, and we've provided
great support in helping people to achieve
and maintain self-sufficiency. So this walk again
helps us to get people involved, get people more aware,
and get them more engaged in helping those
that we know need support, need a shelter, need housing, and need food.
Happening right now in Bladensburg, hundreds of residents gathering
along the Anacostia River to step up for local families in need.
The annual Walk in Their Shoes 5K steps off at 10

This year's event also features a community food drive
to help neighbors heading into the holidays, along
with family activities and food trucks running through this afternoon.
Coming up after the break, still to come,
Halloween weekend across the DMV,
plus the Commanders facing off against the Eagles again tomorrow.
We have a preview of the rematch straight ahead.
Meantime, I'll send it to you, Cesar, with the weather word.
Well, it is a beautiful day out there, Maureen.
So the good thing is, though, how long does it last?
Well, we'll talk more about that here after the break.
