A Russian captured by the Ukrainian Armed Forces said he didn't understand what he was fighting for and appealed to Ukrainians. A video of him was published on the YouTube channel of the 8th Airborne Assault Corps.
One of the Russian prisoners said he signed a contract with the Russian Ministry of Defense because he wanted to serve in the army and because of the promised payments.
Specifically, he was promised 2.5 million rubles, a regular salary, and combat pay for signing the contract. However, according to him, he only received 700,000 of the promised sum.
The Russian also added that he was initially promised service in St. Petersburg, but was subsequently sent to the front.
He claims that before being captured, he and his comrade refused to obey orders. However, they subsequently crossed the Ukrainian border and headed to the designated positions, where they were captured by Ukrainian soldiers.
"I'm already confused myself about why we're even fighting. I was just waiting for it all to be over. But otherwise, I didn't fight for anything," he said.
At the end of the interview, he apologized to Ukrainians for starting a full-scale war against Ukraine: "Forgive me for starting this damn war."
Captivity of the Ukrainian Armed Forces: latest news
Media previously reported that Ukrainian intelligence officers in Sumy Oblast captured 29 Russian soldiers as a result of an operation . The Active Operations Department of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reported that the special operation was carried out by the GROUP 10 unit. It not only thwarted the enemy's plans but also captured Russian soldiers. Furthermore, over 1,100 enemy targets were hit.
Media also reported that the 24th King Daniel Separate Mechanized Brigade reported that three Ukrainian citizens fighting on the Russian side were captured by Ukrainian soldiers in Chasov Yar. They reportedly came from temporarily occupied Crimea and the left bank of the Kherson Oblast. The brigade's statement noted that they did not want to fight for their country, so they went to fight for someone else. It's worth noting that their fate may differ from that of the Russian soldiers. If the investigation finds them guilty of treason, they will be tried in Ukraine.
