But first, a dark and spooky Halloween night all across the valley,
the second straight day of storms leading to damage,
water rescues and power outages, all in about 24 hours time.
Let's go live to Jacob Luthi in Scottsdale near 70th Street
and Shea for the very latest. Jacob.
Yeah, Brian, good evening. It's been steadily raining here
in Scottsdale for the last couple of hours. But I got to tell you,
the crew members with APS have not stopped working.
They have been trying to replace some downed power lines
that fell over last night due to strong winds.
And earlier today, I talked to some first responders
who are preparing for yet another busy night tonight.
Cruisers spread thin last night.
Six rescues all at once.
That was the reality for Scottsdale Fire Friday night,
including this response near North Miller Road and Roosevelt Street.
With more storms in the forecast,
Captain Dave Folio says crews are preparing for a busy Halloween night.
We've all got the gear dried out, the throw bags ready.
What people don't realize, we put people downstream,
upstream, river right, river left.
Folio says too often drivers get caught in flash flooding
because they ignore road closures.
...or refuse to take an alternate route.
His message? Never drive around barricades
and avoid non-essential trips when storms roll in.
Two inches of water will sweep you off your feet.
Four to six inches of water will move your vehicle.
But the storms brought more than just floodwaters.
Overnight winds knocked down 14 power lines along Shea Boulevard,
keeping APS crews in Scottsdale working around the clock Saturday.
At the peak, more than 2,000 customers lost power.
APS says crews have restored service to most by rerouting power.
And installing temporary cables will have crews out here probably
for a couple more days, but we also have more storms coming.
So we have to take that into account if it's just light rain,
they can stay working out here.
But if there's lightning or stronger storms,
they'll have to take a break until it's safe to come back.
And the response effort isn't letting up. APS says it's
in house meteorologists will be monitoring conditions closely.
So crews can jump into action
if more weather related emergencies hit.
To give them idea of when,
where storms might occur so that we can have crews on standby,
staged and ready to go to get
into an area quickly to get the power back on.
With flash flooding a real danger,
Folio says a few simple precautions could make all the
difference.
It's just about good decision making.
You can make a grave decision that will change
your life in a matter of seconds and put you
at risk and the rescue is at risk.
So we're asking people to not drive into washes.
And again, the Scottsdale Fire Department reminding people
to pay attention to those barricades.
Now, at any moment or throughout this entire time
that they're fixing these power lines,
they say, APS says that there could be upwards of 100 people out here.
So they want to remind people
if you're driving through this area on Shea Boulevard
to make sure that you are paying attention
to get a lot of workers out here.
Make sure you're driving safely tonight.
