The Calgary Flames are making HISTORY...

The Calgary Flames remain one of the hottest teams
in the NHL after another huge win,
this time against the Seattle Kraken.
But it's not just that they're winning,
it's that they're actually scoring and
playing entertaining hockey while making some history along the way.
We're going to get to all that more in this
video, but first I want to welcome you to
Flames Digest.
I'm Mark Griffith.
If you're new around here and you love the
Flames, make sure you subscribe so you can
stay up to date on all the latest news, updates,
reports, and rumors revolving around your
Calgary Flames.
We would love to welcome you to the Flames Digest family,
and it is a busy Halloween weekend
For the Calgary Flames, as I want to say
a quick happy Halloween to everyone out there.
But last night we had a game, tonight we have a game.
Very busy weekend, but in case you missed last night's game,
the Flames, well they played an absolute worldie
at home against the Seattle Kraken.
A team that beat us 6-1 twice.
Earlier this month, yes three games
against the same opponent in one month
and it's not the playoffs, it's kind of wild.
We lose 6-1, then we lose 6-1,
but now we win 6-2 and it was a really exciting game.
The Flames are finding their stride a little bit
and when they get you know just that little bit
of a confidence boost, they look really, really good.
We needed Dustin Wolfe to step up, he stepped up.
The youngsters looked absolutely great.
I mean, Klapka with a big fight once again.
Actually, if we do get into the box score here,
we can talk about it a little further
because it's a lengthy one here.
But like I said, Dustin Wolfe, you know,
with Devin Cooly going on IR, being week-to-week.
Wolfie needed to step up, and he did.
Two goals on just 22 shots for the 20-save victory
in his first start in quite a while.
The 9.09 save percentage, one of his best games of the year.
He looked great.
Maddie.
Matt Coronado, who I will be getting into in a second here,
has been absolutely excellent lately.
No one really saw him being a guy who's just going to be dishing
the puck around like crazy, but he has so many assists.
Last night, he has a four-point game, a goal and three assists.
It was the first...
Flames player to have a four-point game in over two years,
not since Jonathan Huberdeau did it
in about mid-October of 2024. How crazy is that?
Joel Farabee remains really hot as well. I'll have
more on him. He gets a goal and a couple helpers as well. Gritten.
Looked great, goal in and assist.
Frosty, another guy with a goal in and assist.
Four Flames multiple points is awesome.
Sunyaev with yet another snipe, happy for him.
Stroemer got a goal, and then Backlund, Pospisil,
and Whitecloud all getting a single assist.
Michael Backlund up to,
I think it's fifth all-time in Flames scoring history.
Pretty close, he's closing in on Neuendijk as well,
so if he remains healthy, he should be able to pass him there.
Excellent that the box score is, you know, a lengthier one.
Six goals, always super entertaining.
And I mean, the whole premise of this video
is that we're making history.
What could I possibly be talking about?
It has meant that four goals has meant victory.
And this is a stat that's been floating around
like crazy lately, but Calgary has 61,
61 straight wins when scoring four plus goals.
How crazy is that?
This is tied for second in NHL history.
We tied the Bruins.
From 1927 to 1931, yes, this is history 100 years
in the making, a streak we're matching.
The only one ahead of us is the New York Rangers
who have the record of 65 in a row from 2011 to 2014.
Easy to do when your goalie's Henrik Lundqvist.
So we just need four qualifying wins to tie the record
and then obviously five to have the new record,
which is pretty crazy that, you know,
this is not a stat you would have ever heard of much,
but I mean, it's really making its rounds.
It shows that the Flames are better defensively than often.
Over however long this streak has been going on.
I mean, how long has it been for 61 straight wins of four plus?
It must have been years and years.
But it's just excellent that the Flames are making history.
And they could essentially have a new record if they keep this going.
And a big part of that is obviously, you know,
getting off to a good start, I think, for these guys.
As this is an interesting stat here.
We obviously, we need goals to win.
That's the most captain obvious thing.
But what's interesting to me is that when
we're leading going into the third,
we have such a better chance.
Even if we're tied going into the third,
we have a relatively good chance.
If we're losing going into the third so far this year,
it's almost hopeless, which has been quite interesting.
So protecting that lead or at least getting that lead
is very important for the Flames, I believe.
Now, let's talk about Matty Coronado as it
was his first career four-point game.
An absolutely excellent one for him.
Glad he got a goal as well to go with the three assists.
But he was just so, so excellent.
His first four-point game,
as we get into the deeper stats here,
drew up a better graphic.
So a goal, four assists.
He was a plus two on the night
in just 13 and a half minutes of ice time as well.
Four points in just 13 and a half minutes
is absolutely excellent.
Scored on his only shot on goal.
He just has been so lights out lately.
Genuinely, his season right now,
14 points in 13 games.
No one envisioned any flame to get anywhere close
to a point per game at honestly any point this
season other than the first couple games of the year.
So I'm not saying that this is the most
sustainable thing. I'm not saying he's going
to end the season on 84 points or 85 I guess
but it's just excellent to know 14 points in the first 13 games
and only three of those are goals
and you expect Matty Coronado to be more of a goal scorer
which is super interesting. A lot of that
Coming on the power play, half of his points
and two of his goals.
He has been excellent.
The Flames power play has been excellent.
I mean, give this team a power play
and they're gonna score is almost how it feels right now,
which is so good.
But again, just so thrilled
with how Coronado has been playing.
The other guy who's been absolutely
carrying the offense lately is Joel Farabee.
He gets a goal and two assists
in over 15 minutes of ice time.
But he had a hit, he had a block.
Again, scored on his only shot on goal as well,
was a plus one and has just been so excellent lately.
It's funny, my dad even admitted
he was wrong about Farabee
because he thought he wasn't so great.
You look at his recent form.
He's scoring more, getting more points,
and he's shooting less, which is a little bit interesting.
But he is having a little bit more ice time as well,
which is just excellent to note.
He's kind of, you know, goes on.
for everything, for the power play, for the penalty kill,
and of course, five on five, like everyone else.
But it's just good to know that he's being relied upon
and he's truly delivering right now, which is great.
As we get into his stats,
he also has 14 points in the early season
in just 13 games.
So over a point per game,
which again, is just super excellent to see.
He's got four goals, 10 assists.
Again, a bulk of that coming on the power play as well.
He has eight power play points.
Who thought he would be, you know,
kind of the power play catalyst?
I certainly didn't, but it's great.
And you know, his mindset,
His mentality is, he says, in the NHL,
it's what you do the next day.
So it seems like he's always come and prepared.
No matter what you do the night before,
whether it's bad or good,
you just always gotta prepare for the next day,
which is great to hear.
The other guy, of course, that I did mention a little bit
is Dustin Wolf, because he really did step up here.
Saves, makes 20 saves.
Some, I mean, I don't know what the official one
ended up being.
Some say there were 23 shots and he made 21 saves.
Some were 22 shots and he made 20 saves.
Either way, he made enough saves to get the win,
And obviously we had, he had
He had a lot of run support as well,
but glad he stepped up after Cooley has been,
you know, the bright spot of the season
for the Flames so far,
and unfortunately went down with that injury
against those dirty cheater Edmonton Oilers,
but glad for Wolfie there.
Now, like I said, busy weekend.
We have a Halloween game for tonight's game
as the Calgary Flames face Colorado.
This one, not a home game.
We are going over to Denver.
This one at 8 p.m.
Funny with the time change coming up
because this would have been a 9 p.m.
start if it were tomorrow, essentially.
But at 8 p.m. tonight, obviously you can.
Watch it on TV, you can listen to it on the radio.
But one thing that I've been loving doing lately
is kind of showing the all-time record against each other.
And this one's interesting because in the regular season,
if you include the Atlanta Flames and Quebec Nordiques,
not the Quebec Bulldogs or the Atlanta Thrashers,
Calgary has 82 wins, 73 regulation losses,
20 ties, and then eight OT or shootout losses.
So it's actually relatively close
in terms of each team's record against each other.
Unfortunately in the playoffs, we've only played once.
Calgary has a one and four record
with that one series in 2019,
kind of the Cale Makar coming out party
and Nathan MacKinnon taking over.
I was at game one, which we won.
Excellent game, four nothing.
Sammy Bennett looked incredible.
And then we got absolutely smoked.
But who knows?
Maybe we can make that 83 wins tonight.
Again, 8 p.m. at Ball Arena.
And against Colorado, Matt Coronado,
I think is probably the guy to look out for
going into this one.
He has had a few points in the past few meetings here,
three in the last seven,
but hopefully he can just keep it going, ramp it up.
He has looked great.
And again, the key for me,
like it has been for essentially all the games this season
has been the special teams where we're top 10
in both the power play and penalty kill,
especially the power play.
Third in the league,
we're scoring one out of every three power plays right now,
Excellent, no one saw that coming.
Again, Fairbairn and Coronado
kind of the guys leading the way.
At the time of recording,
it has not been established which goalie will be in.
You would think it would be Sergeyev
just because Wolf played last night,
but Huska has been known to play his goalie
on both back-to-backs.
So that one will be interesting to keep your eye on.
Honestly, I don't know whether it will be Wolf
or Sergeyev, you would think so,
but absolutely could be different.
That'll be a big story as well as the special teams.
Now let's get into the comment of the day
to wrap up this video as we love to do here on the channel
comes from yesterday's video, of course.
And this is a great one here from Shane saying,
Wolf needs to step up and show his true potential.
Hope the best for Cooley.
Go Flames go.
And it's true.
Wolf, honestly, he did look great.
It's not like Seattle threw too much his way.
Plus again, he got loads of run support,
which is great in six goals.
But it is true.
Wolf, I think he's ready.
He looked pretty confident last night.
Got to keep that rolling.
And of course, hoping the best for Cooley.
I know that his vibes are still good
because when are they not?
But yeah, hoping all the best for Cooley as well.
But happy that Wolf got a big win
and hopefully he can keep that rolling.
Thank you so much for watching this video.
