I'm making another batch of precompost to use as biologically active bedding in my worm farm, and my second heat cycle isn't heating up as much as I expected. After adding coffee grounds, the temperature only climbed to around 91°F before it started dropping again.

There's still heat and microbial activity happening, so the batch isn't necessarily doing nothing, but I wanted to see if I could get the temperature back up. This time I'm experimenting with hydrated alfalfa pellets and working them throughout the precompost.

I'm continuing to document these batches as I learn what works best for creating biologically active bedding for my worms. I'll keep checking the temperature and we'll see what the alfalfa does!
