Today we`ll be Exploring Church Street W2, City of Westminster College, Paddington Green and Paddington Basin.

Church Street was created in the 1790s as part of the development of Lisson Green, and ran west towards the parish church at Paddington Green. A hay market opened on a three-acre site on the north side of Church Street in 1830, adding vegetables and general goods a year later.

The College can trace its history as a distinct organisation back to September 1903, when Paddington Technical Institute opened. The first of its kind in London it was opened partly thanks to the efforts of leading Fabian Sidney Webb, then Chair of the Technical Education Board of London County Council.

City of Westminster College has been ranked the top Further Education (FE) college in London for “average point score per vocational examination entry”. In the same report the College was ranked 4th for “average point score per A Level entry”

Westminster College was a teacher training college and college of higher education in England. The college was founded in London in 1851 as a training institute for teachers for Wesleyan Methodist schools, but moved to Oxford in 1959. Before the move, it was part of the London Institute for Education.

University of Westminster is ranked 701 in QS World University Rankings by TopUniversities and has an overall score of 4.2 stars, according to student reviews on Studyportals, the best place to find out how students rate their study and living experience at universities from all over the world.

Paddington Green contains part of the ancient Paddington and Lilestone villages which became fashionable at the end of the 18th century because of its village setting and proximity to the West End of London. An omnibus service to the City of London was introduced in 1829 by George Shillibeer.

Paddington Basin was opened in 1801, with Paddington being chosen as the site of the basin because of its position on the New Road which led to the east, providing for onward transport. In its heyday, the basin was a major transshipment facility, and a hive of activity.

Paddington Walk is a block of 232 flats designed by Munkenbeck & Marshall that completed in August 2005. The Point (224,000 sq ft) and Waterside (240,000 sq ft) are office blocks designed by Terry Farrell and Partners and the Richard Rogers Partnership respectively.
