Fenchurch Street is a street in London linking Aldgate at its eastern end with Lombard Street and Gracechurch Street in the west. It is a well-known thoroughfare in the City of London financial district and is the site of many corporate offices and headquarters.


The area around Fenchurch Street is one of the oldest inhabited parts of London; the name "Fenchurch" derives from the Latin faenum (hay) and refers to hay markets in the area.

It was the first railway station to be built in the City.

Fenchurch Street Station was opened on 2 August 1841 as the main terminus of the London and Blackwall Railway.

The building was originally designed by Sir William Tite.

Some sources suggest that the facade is the one designed by Sir William Tite.
