And we are now on the final stretch.
Today is the last full day to campaign before tomorrow's
midterm elections. And there has been a big shakeup in a critical race.
Douglas Ader has more from Washington this morning
on this election eve. Good morning, Doug.
Good morning. Yeah, stunning development
in the Michigan Senate race as President
Trump attends his last in-person rallies.
Closing it down tonight.
This is it.
President Trump wrapping it up in a surprisingly competitive Kansas
and closing off a day that saw a stunning turn in another state.
I am endorsing Mike Rogers for the United States Senate.
Haley Stevens, the Democrat
who lost the hard-fought Michigan Senate primary to fellow
Democrat Abdul El-Sayed,
has swung her allegiance to Republican Mike Rogers, who seemed a little
stunned. When I got the call this morning,
obviously it's probably not the day we
anticipated going forward today.
Stevens had been set to appear with El-Sayed, but the two
The two never reconciled, especially after El-Sayed,
in Steven's view, did not
Not fully condemn an independent campaign ad
that blamed high grocery prices on U.S. support for Israel.
At the end of the day, I actually don't think about Haley Stevens.
El-Sayed shrugged it off, but other Democrats were furious.
The Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer,
who was trying to win back the chamber, wrote on X,
this is a despicable betrayal from Representative Stevens.
She showed great and almost unprecedented loyalty to the...
Great people of Michigan.
President Trump celebrated the conversion,
but elsewhere the news was more troubling for Republicans.
Our power ranking showed two more Senate contests in Kansas
and Nebraska moving toward Democrats.
The president, meantime, has finished his traveling campaign events,
but he's going to speak in the nation's capital later today,
and he has nine tele-rallies scheduled.
Desiree.
Yeah, just fascinating there, Haley Stevens' switch,
and I'm also hearing reports that
a lot of her campaign staff also resigned because of that decision.
So what do you think the reasoning there for Haley Stevens was?
Do you feel that she has now ruined
her political career as a Democrat moving forward?
Well, those are kind of separate questions.
I mean, as far as her reasoning is concerned,
she was always uneasy with Abdul Al-Sayed's
positions on a number of things,
including his position on Israel, and that really came
to light with this recent third-party ad that was put forward.
As far as her political career, you know,
Democrats seem to be kind of done with her.
Doesn't mean her career is over.
You know, the president yesterday talked about welcoming her.
Into the Republican Party, although she made it clear
that she will continue to vote as a Democrat.
All right. We shall see. Interesting, Doug.
All right. We will talk to you tomorrow.
Big, big day tomorrow. Thank you. Yeah. Bye. Thank you.
