Hey everyone, welcome back to Victor Explains. In today's video, I'll show you how to fix the problem where your PDF files show a black icon on your Windows 10, 11, 8, and 7 with two methods. Method 1. Let's start with the easiest method. Right-click on an empty area of your desktop, and then hover your mouse over the View option. Now, from the list, switch between the icon sizes, try small icons first, and if that doesn't work, change to medium or large icons, one by one. If the icons are still black, don't worry, let's move to the next solution. Go ahead and open Adobe Acrobat Reader or the full version of Adobe Acrobat if you have it installed, then click the menu icon in the top left corner, the three horizontal lines, scroll down and select Preferences. Look for the option Enable PDF Thumbnail Previews in Windows Explorer, uncheck this box, click OK, and if prompted to Restore Features or by User Account Control, click Yes. Now, wait a few moments while Adobe finishes configuring everything. Open your web browser and go to the download page for the 64-bit PDF Preview Handler fix. I've left the download link in the description for easy access. Once it's downloaded, extract the zip file, then double-click it. If Windows asks for permission, click Yes. Follow the Setup Wizard, make sure the Preview Handler Fix option is selected, and then click Install. Once the installation is complete, click Finish. Now, go ahead and restart your computer. Once your PC boots back up, open Adobe Acrobat Reader again. Navigate to Menu, Preferences, and this time, make sure Enable PDF Thumbnail Previews in Windows Explorer is checked. Click OK, and if any pop-ups appear, simply click Yes to apply the changes. Give it a few seconds to complete the configuration, and that's it! Your PDF icons should now show proper thumbnail previews in File Explorer and on your desktop.
