Yankees GET HUGE NEWS| What This Means (Yankees News 2026)
Nov 3, 2026
All right, Yankees fans,
this could potentially set the tone for the rest of the offseason.
Let me know what you guys think down in the comments.
But Joel Sherman just reported
that eight players have received the qualifying offer.
Randy Rosarania, Jake Bowers, our own David Bednar, twins Ryan Jeffers.
Brandon Lau, Adrian Morihone, Trevor Rogers, and Seiya Suzuki.
Let me know how you think this could potentially impact
the New York Yankees offseason because
it could have one heck of an impact.
Now, let's start off with David Bednar.
Bednar had a really rough beginning to his season.
Then he just rebounded.
He was locked in.
Locked in.
Bednar for the Yankees had a 2.47 ERA,
64 appearances, 35 saves, 69 and a third innings
pitch.
76 strikeouts and an excellent WHIP, better than his career average.
Bednar getting that qualifying offer, a lot of money.
I think it's like $23 million or more for one season.
Now, obviously, you want Bednar for multiple years,
for potentially four years, five years.
He's 32 years old, so you kind of want that three,
four-year deal at the most.
The bidding gets crazy because he is 32 years old.
If things get a little dicey, they get a little crazy.
And he just turned 32 in October.
And let's say it gets up to $20 million per season, four years.
That's $80 million for four years for a guy
who just turned 32 years old.
And if you're the New York Yankees
and you don't have anything in the back end of that
bullpen, you have nothing right now.
Blackburn's on.
He's a free agent.
Bednar, he's a free agent.
Yes, you have Hendricks.
He had an excellent season.
That's all you got.
You don't have Blackburn.
You don't have Bednar.
If it gets crazy,
and if it is a four-year deal for 80,
let's say it gets even crazier.
It's a five-year deal for 100.
Do you go to those waters if you're the New York Yankees?
Is that what you do?
Does Hal go to those waters?
I mean, Bednar, we know how important he is to the win now scenario
for the Yankees, right?
We know how important he is to that, and we want him to be a part of it
because he was so good and so dependable.
But if the money gets crazy foreclosure for a guy who,
let's face it, people want to throw
this around when talking about Mason Miller,
which, oh, you don't want to trade so much
for a guy who throws one inning.
And I was a part of that camp with not wanting
to move George Lombard for a closer.
I wanted Mason Miller, not for Lombard, though.
I never used the one inning thing against Mason Miller,
but now move this way of thinking
to when you're actually paying for somebody like a David Bednar.
If it gets crazy.
Do you just say, let's get the compensation pick,
but then you don't have a closer, then
you have to rely on yourselves to go and develop one.
And let's face it, the New York Yankees have been excellent at that.
It makes me nervous when they do that.
It makes me nervous when they take.
A not so good pitcher
and they turn him into because you just you don't know what you're
going to get like like we don't we can't tell
if a pitcher is going to be that guy.
We had no idea that Hedrick was going to come into the season
and be a dependable option
for the Yankees.
We had no idea that Blackburn was going to be as good as he was.
We had no idea, but they were.
So do you want to depend on that?
That's one heck of a risk.
But I guess it could happen.
Matt Blake is wonderful at his job.
I guess that could happen again.
And I expect that to happen.
But do you want to depend on it?
I guess the Yankees extended Matt Blake
or they signed him to a new three-year deal.
I guess that's what they're depending on.
Let me know what you guys think down in the comments about Bednar.
If you think $100 million for him for five years,
if it gets that high, he's 32 years old.
He just turned 32.
Now the other guys on this list.
Ryan Jeffers, a Yankee target.
More at home.
A Yankee target.
I don't want to talk about Brandon Lowe.
I don't think so.
We're going to talk about Jeffers and more at home.
Now, Jeffers, I mean, he's a guy who the Yankees like.
He's a guy who the Yankees felt like, hey, we trade for him.
We could bring him back as a free agent.
And now the Twins obviously decided to hold on to Jeffers
around the deadline, but Jeffers, right-handed hitting catcher.
The Yankees need one of those.
He's going to cost you a pretty penny.
Now you would have to give up probably a pick,
your second highest pick, right?
If you sign somebody to qualify
who has a qualifying offer attached to them.
So does the Jeffers thing happen anymore?
I would lean towards no.
That's how much a qualifying offer can affect you.
I would say no.
I think the more home thing doesn't happen at all anymore.
Now, I'm not saying I'm shocked that these guys got qualifying offers.
But what I am saying, now the likelihood because they got them,
it goes down for the Yankees to go and get these guys.
It goes down.
Am I just exaggerating, being dramatic?
I mean, Trevor Rogers, wow, he got one too.
Not that he doesn't deserve it.
Suzuki, he got one.
Some people wanted him on the Yankees.
Randy Arozarena, I brought him up recently.
How the Yankees should at least look at that.
Now, maybe not so much, but he's a guy who gets on base.
Hits for power, but he gets on base.
Not so great defensively, but he gets on base.
I can't emphasize that enough.
He gets on base.
Jeffers, he gets on base.
Now these guys got qualifying offers.
I don't know if the Yankees are going to go in those waters now.
I don't.
I don't think so.
We wanted them to.
I just, I don't think so.
But maybe I'm being a bit dramatic, exaggerating.
However, there's a guy that the Yankees did
not give a qualifying offer to,
and that's Jazz Chisholm.
It's Jazz Chisholm.
He did not get a qualifying offer.
Doesn't shock me one bit.
He probably would have taken it.
He had a very down season.
He had a down year.
He would have taken that money.
I don't think he's going to get offered that kind of money.
But, oh, offer him the qualifying offer just
so you could get compensation for him.
Guys, if you offer him a contract of that magnitude,
that kind of money, he's going to take it.
Grisham did the same thing.
And Grisham came off of a big season.
And Grisham still took the money.
So, Jazz will take the money if they offered it to him.
And they didn't because they knew better.
They didn't want Jazz.
Jorge Castillo reported.
That Jazz and Trent Grisham are basically as good as gone.
Sucks how things happen that way.
It sucks how things come to be.
But Jazz didn't play up to snuff.
Trent had a down year after having that monster, monster season.
The Yankees have a lot of work to do this offseason,
and hopefully there is a season in 2027,
and I think there will be.
There's too much money that would be lost if there wasn't.
But guys, listen, let me know what you think down in the comments.
I want to know.
Marco Luciano, only 25 years old, former top 100 prospect,
played 51 major league games with the Giants.
Gary Phillips, I'm reading his tweet.
He was just placed on the New York Yankee 40-man roster.
Phil, uh, Lucy.
Luciano, what did he do for the Yankees in their farm this season?
He hit .293, .933 OPS, 27 homers,
78 runs batted in, a right-handed hitter.
Primarily played second base, but sprinkled in some left
in a couple innings and short at short.
But Marco Luciano, congratulations to him,
former top 100 prospect, only 25 years old,
raked for the New York Yankees this season
in the minor leagues, right-handed hitter.
Maybe we see him a little bit.
Maybe he competes with Anthony Volpe for second base.
Maybe, maybe.
But at that point, is Caballero even still on the team
if Luciano is going to compete for a roster spot?
I don't know.
But guys, let me know what you think down in the comments.
Do you think that any of this, any of this...
Is it going to affect the Yankees?
Of course it will, because now it means
maybe they don't go after Jeffers.
Maybe they don't go after Morajon.
With Bednar, though, it would have happened anyway.
But now having a qualifying offer attached to him,
you could kind of accept the fact more so
that, all right, if we get outbid,
at least we get a little something.
It's not much, but it's a little something.
We'll see what happens, guys.
Let me know what you think down in the comments.
Thank you guys so much for watching.
I'll see you next time.
Take care.
