Joining me in the studio is Philip Taylor, International Affairs Editor.
Philip, the big question is,
if the results are not in Trump's favour, what will happen next?
Right, well, I'll just remind you
of that opinion poll by NBC in the United States,
which said that...
60% of Americans disapprove of Donald Trump.
Only 38% give him a good approval rating.
I mean, 38%, if you were Emmanuel Macron,
that would be a wonderful outcome.
But in the United States, that's not a very good poll rating.
So the chances are that this is not going to be an election
in Donald Trump's favor.
He's tried really hard all the way through
to make this the election about him,
saying, remember, I'm...
My face should be on the ballot.
Think that it's on the ballot when you're voting.
You can vote for me and I'll give you 5,000 euros
if Republicans take the House of Representatives and the Senate.
It looks like it's not going to swing in Donald Trump's favour.
So what is he going to do?
Well, if you think back to the last election in 2020 where he lost,
he has never conceded that he didn't win that election
and even today is still saying that it was stolen.
So I think it all depends on...
How much he loses, if he loses by a large majority,
a wide margin, it's absolutely impossible to say that there
is some kind of error in the counting of the ballots.
It'll be a lot harder for Donald Trump to say that this election
was stolen and that he is the rightful winner
and that the Democrats have done everything they possibly can
to take that election away from him.
If it's a much closer result, like we saw in previous elections
in the United States, I think that will be.
The result of all the dangers.
Remember that an injured animal is much more aggressive.
And Donald Trump, I think, is already feeling
that he knows something is going to happen
that's going to go against him winning in these elections.
So he's going to try everything he can
to try to swing that round in his favor.
Now, already we have seen a couple of efforts
by Donald Trump to try to swing that.
The first one was the Supreme Court
rejecting Republican calls for California
to set aside some 20,000.
ballots from people that the federal government has accused
of being non-citizens.
That has been thrown out
by California's Democratic Attorney General Rob Bonta,
who said this was another effort by the Trump administration
to try to swing the result in their favor
because they know that in California there
are more Democrats than Republicans
and therefore that would maybe improve the score of the Republicans.
That's been thrown out, so Donald Trump has lost that.
Go back to January the 6th,
Donald Trump pardoned nearly 1,600 convicted rioters after that
effect.
Basically, the message was, we're pardoning you,
we might need you at a later date.
That later date could be the one after
these elections for those MAGA supporters who are
really willing to do anything to see Donald Trump stay
in the White House and in full
control of both houses.
Philip Taylor, thank you.
