Hey everyone, it's Deja from CrochetEverAfter.com.
Today I'm going to show you how to make
this ombre pom-pom with using three similar colors
and the Clover Pom-Pom Maker tool.
So go ahead and we'll get started.
Okay so to get started on our ombre pom-pom,
we're going to need our Clover Pom-Pom Maker.
And you can see that it looks a little complicated,
but it's actually a very easy machine.
It is in two parts.
There's a little post that goes into this hole and holds it together.
And it holds together very well,
and everything is very tight on it so it doesn't open up accidentally.
There are also four arms.
You're going to use both on each side together,
so you're actually going to just use kind of two arms.
But they have to make it as a four piece
so that the whole thing will pull apart.
So you'll just line those up to actually start making your pom pom.
Now the other thing you're going to need
for your ombre pom pom is three similar colors of yarn.
Red Heart Super Saver is a great yarn
because they have lots of different shades of different colors.
So these are all from Red Heart.
It's just a light blue, medium blue, and a darker blue.
And that will give you more of an ombre effect.
But you could really do this with any three colors that you want.
So I'm going to start with the dark blue first.
You want to go dark to light or light to dark.
It's your choice what you want to start with.
But I'm going to grab the tail with the hand
that's holding the pom-pom maker.
And I'm just going to start wrapping.
And I'm only going to wrap one third of my side
or this side.
So I want to go to about a third.
And then I'm going to add in my next color.
So I have the next lighter blue.
I'm going to hold that in the same spot.
And I'm just doing one strand at a time.
The reason that I'm stopping before I really
do any kind of wrapping is I want to make sure that
Thank
my layers aren't going to overlap.
So if I just kept wrapping all of this blue at once it might
start overlapping and getting in the way of the next color.
So I'm just going to do one layer
of each of my colors first and then kind of start working from there.
you.
So about four or five wraps.
It's good to count as you're wrapping
so that you can make both sides of your pom-pom the same size.
So right now I'm just doing about five wraps for the very first layer.
I'm going to grab my very light blue and hold on to that tail.
Once you get going with a couple layers,
you won't have to hold on to your tails anymore,
but for this first layer, you want to hold on.
So I'm just going to do five wraps of each color.
Now I'm going to start filling
this in with these colors until my edge is almost completely
flat.
So you can see we have the divot.
When it's almost completely flat,
that's when I am satisfied with how much yarn I have for
this side.
So I'm just going to keep going back and forth.
With these colors, with the light blue, this is going to get
a little bit tangled as you work because there's a couple colors
on one side, so once you cut your yarn, you'll fix the tangles,
but as you're working, you might have to get some slack on your ball,
on the balls of your yarn, so that you don't get super tangled,
because these are going to cross over each other.
You can also flip your pom pom maker around
to try to keep the tangles to a minimum and
work.
Each yarn on one side
but that middle yarn is probably going to get tangled no matter what.
So the best practice is to count as you're doing this.
I'm not counting so I'm just going to do my
best guess when I go to the other side.
But if you count how many wraps you do on this side
you can copy it for the other side and that way
when you cut your pom-pom and bring it open
it's going to all line up. That one's stuck here.
So I'm going to keep wrapping
in those thirds until I get this almost flat.
Okay, so I've wrapped and you can see
that the center piece here now is almost completely flat.
You don't want to over wrap
because you need your arms to close and touch.
So that way they stay secure when you cut the middle of your yarn
and make your pom-pom and they won't move anywhere.
Now I'm going to cut these tails
and as you can see from wrapping I was doing this color
and this color on the same side so you can see they got all wrapped up.
So when I cut them then I can just fix the looseness
or the tangledness, looseness, the tangled that I have.
So I'm just going to cut close to where my pom poms
are because they can just match in with the rest of it when I cut it.
You can cut off your tails too so that they are not as
In your way for when you start your next side, those short.
I have the first side done
Don't worry if there's a little bit of the overlap in the thirds
because it is an ombre. So you kind of want the little bit of
Transition so that it looks more like an authentic ombre now
This is an important part
because technically our pom-pom when we open it
It's gonna be kind of going this way.
So we have the dark blue medium blue light blue.
So we need to mirror or
On the other side, so you notice that when you close it,
this is the first side, we started with blue, the dark blue,
this time we're going to start with the light blue,
because we want it to be light blue, medium blue, dark blue,
which is the reverse of these arms, so that when we cut it
and open it up, we'll have all the dark blue up here, all
the medium blue in the middle, and all the light blue at the bottom.
So I'm going to start with the light blue in the beginning of my arms.
So let me untangle myself here and again we're going to,
I was confused of how I like to hold
this best, hold it with your same hand
and start that first third. I'll just do five wraps. So this
first part is the most tedious
because you have to hold all of these tails and all of this working
yarn while you begin your wrapping.
So have a little patience. I'm trying to go a little
Fast, just so you don't have to sit there
and watch me do it exactly how you should do it,
which is much slower and much more careful,
the picture, by how I'm starting it out.
You can kind of wrap it around, too,
to help secure it if you need to,
because once you cut it, it's not going to make a big difference.
I'm just going to start overlapping my dark blue.
You can overlap all the way to the end if you want,
but what happens sometimes is that will roll over into your next color.
So I kind of do a few layers
and then move on to the next color and do a few layers.
Okay, I've filled in this side as much as I want to now,
and I'm going to close it up, make sure it closes.
Looks good. I'm going to cut my tails again.
Just let them hang, it might be easiest.
So you can
actually see
what I'm doing.
So don't worry too much about any
that are sticking out at the moment, we're going to
fix that as we cut our pom-pom in half.
So there's a little divot in between the pom-pom,
I should have pointed that out a little bit
better but I'll show you when we're cutting through.
You're going to go, that's what that space is for,
that's why we have four arms instead
of two because you're going to take
your very sharp pointy scissors, you want them really
sharp at the top because that's the only part
that's really going to cut anything, and you're
You're going to cut down the center.
Now what I like to do is I like to hold on to the arms
and put them in the back so that
I can make sure they stay closed,
because if I cut and these pop open for any reason,
my yarn's going to shift or fall out completely,
and then I'll just have a bunch of these sitting
around because that's really all this is until we tie it at the end.
So I'm going to start cutting down the center.
And the scissors fit nice
and easy through the divot that Clover's made in this.
You can see that nice big divot there.
And then I'm going to do the same thing on the other side.
Hold down the arms and cut down the center.
And then you're going to use either
a piece of scrap yarn or thread.
I usually just use one of the colors that I'm making
the pom pom out of to tie my pom pom.
together so i'm just going to use some
of this light blue yarn to tie it together so we're using
that divot again we're going to wrap our yarn through the divot
and then we're going to double knot
Into the divot.
So when we double knot,
our pom pom maker is going to separate slightly so that the
yarn goes inside.
It just will do it nice and easy for you.
Don't pull your yarn too tight because it will break.
I know this because I've done it.
So just double knot it and then you're ready to open it up.
But first, I'm going to clean up.
These extra strands that I have here.
If you're going to attach this to anything, keep these tails long.
So I'll leave these a little bit long
so you can see how they come out when I open it up.
But look for any other strands that are kind of sticking up.
Make sure you do this over a trash can
because fuzzies will fall all over the place.
So I usually kind of brush them
a little before I open it up to get all the extra fuzz off.
Good amount of fuzz down here.
Now we're going to go ahead and open up our pom poms.
So we take our arms and we pull them open,
the whole thing, and then we just pull our machine apart.
And I like to roll it in my hands a little
to get it fluffed up. And as you can see,
with the exception of this one little stray guy that
I can just cut really short so it's not visible.
So I'll do that real quick so you can see what
Let's see what this actually will look like as an ombre.
So if you have any strays...
Don't worry, you don't need to make a new pom-pom.
Just cut your little piece really short.
Try not to take out any good color around it.
You can see our ombre pom-pom. So we have the dark, medium, light.
And then you're going to take your scissors
and just kind of work around because the edges,
when you wrap here and here,
sometimes it's a little loose without even realizing it and you
end up with these little long edges around where they meet.
So just cut those off, get it nice and spherical
Then you have your tie that you can attach
your pom-pom to, but that is our ombre pom-pom.
So if you have any questions,
leave them below, but thank you for watching.
