Marty here with Laurie after watching
Arsenal beat Liverpool 1-0.
Run me through this.
I made up, and it's a Liverpool term actually, I made up about that.
And you know what?
You know me. We've known each other for a long time.
I'm not the biggest celebrator in terms
of jumping around the studio and all that.
You did.
Something that's been pointed out to me several times before,
but today I did. And you know why? First and foremost, what a win.
I mean, we've not won there now for 12 years.
As it is.
And to go there, we got the win.
We thoroughly deserved the win.
Got off to a great start.
Kai Havertz, got to shout him out.
In the week, had a horrendous performance.
People were calling him out.
So for him to score and eventually go on and get the winner,
that was great for him.
I'm pleased for him.
Um
Declan Rice, amazing performance today.
That assist, listen, man, that was...
On a plate.
That was...
You know, some assists are just like...
regular taps and then the player does all the work
but this one was one of those assists where
it's almost as good as the guy scoring a goal
you.
and that just exemplified his performance today. I
thought he was outstanding from start to finish even
in the huddle before the start of the game
we all acknowledged in the studio he looked animated he
was the one doing the talking in
in the huddle so yeah it was an amazing win pretty much every person
on the pitch played their part
so shout out to the whole team shout out to the manager
who got things right today an amazing win
And a little bit of a crowd because the amount of Liverpool fans that have
been on my case recently, Alex, Cop TV, FJ, Drifty and several others.
I've even been accosted by Liverpool fans outside
of my local Tesco's in Enfield coming for me
because of things I've said about Liverpool in the past.
So I felt a special pride today in seeing the boys go up there.
Do a job on Liverpool.
Come on, keep a clean sheet.
Amazing.
Probably the best win I've experienced for a while.
Wow.
If I'm going to be honest.
Yeah.
Okay.
In the Premier League, certainly, yeah.
Okay, cool.
And listen, let's go through a couple of points.
Isak, penalty, Timber.
You know what?
It wasn't a penalty.
It could have been a penalty.
I think you got away with one there, if I'm being honest.
And I think the reason for that was because Isak
was trying to get on the end of it.
If he goes down, then yeah, it's a stonewall penalty.
To be fair to Isak, he was trying to get on the end of it to score,
which is what you want strikers to do.
You don't want them to just go down easily and try and get penalties.
Didn't work out for him.
But yeah, that was a lucky moment for us.
But for all those Liverpool fans who are going to,
I'm sure they're going to highlight that,
talk to me about how comes Niyoni stayed
on the pitch, their midfielder.
That that
Well, I was going to say tackle, but wow.
I mean, that could have seriously hurt the guy.
Yeah, you pointed that out.
That was either a straight red.
Even if you give him a booking for that,
he goes on to commit a series of fouls after that.
Could have got him sent off.
Let's talk about Isak.
That assault he did on Gabby,
which if you do that in the street, you get nicknamed.
You can't just punch out or throw your elbow out like that.
So, no, I'm not going to have none of that.
The referee wasn't great, I will admit.
But it was the same for both teams.
Okay, moving into the second half.
Was that just a controlled, decent champions performance?
I'll go further than that.
That second half...
Performance by Arsenal in terms of defence
and how we played that second half,
that's as good as it's going to get
when you consider you're up against a team like Liverpool.
They're at home.
They were on the ascendancy
because they finished the end of the first half strong.
So to come out in that second half and keep them relatively quiet,
restrict them to no shots on target in that second half,
I thought that was phenomenal defending by Arsenal.
And it kind of showed just how good we are defensively.
Gabriel and Konza at the back today, they were absolutely magnificent.
They were superb and Declan Rice in the middle
of the park as well was absolutely phenomenal.
Declan was unbelievable today.
As much as I'm tempted to give Kai Havertz man of the match
because whenever you get a game like this
and it's 1-0 and a guy scores a goal,
there is a tendency to want to give the striker man of the match.
Because he's obviously had the most influential moment
of the whole game in scoring the goal.
But when you consider the assist
and when you consider the performance that Declan Rice had today,
The stuff that he was doing at both ends of the pitch,
there can only be one man of the match, and that was definitely right.
He was absolutely phenomenal.
I think he was. He was absolutely brilliant.
And listen, we've got Slavia Prague
on Wednesday night in the Champions League.
What do you think, you know, going into that game?
Well, after what we've seen today,
you would have to make Arsenal strong favourites.
I mean, we'd have been favourites anyway.
I'm expecting to see a rotated team
because obviously we've got Hull the following week.
But listen, man, how can you not be confident
after what you've seen today?
And I did say to quite a few people yourself,
you agreed with me, so you're cool.
I said this, the result and the performance against Fleetwood
will not have any bearing on the game today
other than to serve to motivate the players to perform even better.
And I think you saw that today.
Yeah, no, you did.
Listen, Laurie, you've been an absolute superstar.
Thank you very much.
She's been Laurie, I've been Marty, and I am signing out.
