James Kaufman, World News Report today, August 3, 2025.
God bless you and yours, no matter where
you are in the world. Please subscribe,
give us a thumbs up, and ring that bell for critical future
updates. Ladies and gentlemen,
we still have an ongoing swarm in the Russian peninsula.
And we have a lot of volcanic activity.
This has got to be magma moving very close to the surface.
We've had another magnitude 6.8 earthquake,
not to mention an ongoing swarm that we will look at in just a moment.
A 6.8 magnitude earthquake, 118 kilometers
east of Severodvinsk, Russia, came in.
As a 7 on the TYFI, which is amazing,
as this is off the peninsula in the ocean in the middle of nowhere.
We came in on a 6 on the shake map.
There was an associated tsunami warning.
We do have a buoy in event mode.
This was at a depth of 35 kilometers, according to the USGS.
Now, before we look at this 6.4 earthquake down here,
The rest of this swarm,
I wanted to quickly take a look over in New Jersey about the earthquake
everyone's been talking about.
I wanted to make sure that you guys knew
that it was actually in the middle of a hazard
zone, and I mean the exact middle of a hazard zone,
so this is nothing new, all right?
This is a geological hazard,
and quakes are expected in this epicenter here.
All right, over the last 24 hours,
we've had 34 earthquakes above a 4.0 right off the coast
of the Russian peninsula here.
Now, the big one, of course, is the 6.8 right here,
and we've had two or three 4.0 and
higher in the last hour, so this is not slowing down whatsoever.
However, since the earthquake swarm has started,
It looks like we've had about 643 earthquakes
that are above a 4.0 magnitude or higher.
So that's a lot of swarming going on.
I believe we're into the 10th day of the actual swarm itself.
Now we have to talk about a 6.4 magnitude down
on the Pacific Antarctic Ridge.
this is part of the Ring of Fire you can see
the ring is coming together
and it's just a matter of time until it hits more
of the North American West Coast
you can see that west coast was in fact hit with a 5.7 there in Mexico
but i'm looking for something a little bit further north
in the United States and/or Canada
This 6.4 here has very little information associated with it,
a default depth of 10 kilometers.
All right, we currently have seven volcanoes
going off in this area here,
right around the swarm, on both sides of the swarm,
talking about one new eruption from a volcano
that has not erupted in 600 years.
Now, let's get some information about
this 6.8 with associated tsunami warning.
Looks like the USGS is the main source of data,
came in at a 6.8, 35 kilometers.
The International Research Institute
on Seismology came in at a 6.8, 35 kilometers.
The Germans came in at a 6.7, 20 kilometers.
Let's get some detailed information about this quake.
Headed over to VolcanoDiscovery.com,
we see a very strong magnitude 6.8 earthquake.
It's going to be 118 kilometers east of Severo-Kurilsk, Russia.
All right, getting some earthquake details here.
Here you have
USGS primary source of data.
It looks like confirmed and manually revised,
which means downgraded to a 6.8.
14.9 atomic bombs worth of energy were released from that one quake.
The energy from this 6.8 magnitude earthquake did make it
to two populated areas here and up here north.
That's why we're seeing the higher DYFI numbers.
Comparing earthquake data from different reporting agencies,
starting out with the USGS, a 6.8, 35 kilometers of depth.
Followed by the Incorporated Research Institute for Seismology,
6.8 at 35 kilometers of depth.
Probably piggybacking the USGS, Germany coming in at 6.7,
20 kilometers of depth, doing their own work.
Australia coming in at 6.9.
I knew the USGS had downgraded it, 41 kilometers in depth.
We have the Europeans coming in at 6.8, 25 kilometers of depth.
And we have the French coming in at 6.57.
This must have been a very strong quake.
10 kilometer default depth there.
Next, we have a 6.85, 25 kilometers.
I won't lie to you, I had to go look this up.
This is in Greece, Aristotle University in Greece.
First time I've ever heard them chime in on an earthquake.
Next, we have the Italians coming in at a 6.8, 15 kilometers of depth.
And finally, the Russians coming in at a 6.9,
which I believe was the magnitude, 49 kilometers of depth.
Taking a look at our next friend here,
a 6.4 magnitude on the Southern Pacific Antarctic Ridge.
That ring of fire is coming on around as we can all see here.
Let's get some more information.
All right, on a plate tectonic boundary,
major plate tectonic boundary,
and we'll see if we can get some additional information.
Here we have the USGS main reporting agency,
a 6.4 at a default depth of 10 kilometers.
We're at volcanoesandearthquakes.com currently.
You see the Germans come in at a 6.4, a default depth there too.
Raspberry Shake, a 6.0, a default depth as well.
Let's get some detailed information on this earthquake.
Definitely not part of the earthquake swarm.
This occurred almost to the minute that the 6.8 popped off.
you can see it way down here very strong
magnitude 6.4 earthquake Pacific Antarctic Ridge
getting some more details USGS primary
source confirmed manually revised which
tells me it was downgraded
a 6.4, 10 kilometers, 3.8 atomic bombs worth of
energy released from this quake working its way around the Ring of Fire
This earthquake has a DYFI of zero,
as no one lives anywhere near it, so no one felt it.
Starting out with the USGS,
we'll compare the quake reported by different agencies.
It came in at a 6.4, default depth 10 kilometers.
Germany, 6.4, default depth 10 kilometers.
Raspberry Shake, a 6.0, default depth 10 kilometers.
French came in at a 5.22.
Default depth 10 kilometers.
We have the Europeans coming in at 6.4, default depth 10 kilometers.
We have the Australians coming in at 6.4,
default depth 10 kilometers. And finally,
the Incorporated Research Institute for Seismology in at a 6.4,
also a default depth.
All right, the 6.8 magnitude earthquake did have
a tsunami warning associated with it.
We do have a buoy in event mode.
This is buoy 21416.
The event is going to be that very small little red mark there.
And we'll get some detailed information on that event.
And you may have guessed it,
but that's going to be a nothing burger, talking about just
a few inches, but it did put the buoy into event mode.
To quickly summarize,
we've had a 6.8 magnitude earthquake with a tsunami warning, did put
a buoy in event mode, no tsunami was created,
and a 6.4 down here on the Pacific Antarctic
Ridge.
We've had a 5.7 here in Central America,
and if anyone was worried about the earthquake we had
in New Jersey, it's right in the middle of a geological hazard,
so nothing new under the sun.
With that said, God bless you and yours, folks.
