The one that is really being watched,
not just here in Michigan, but frankly all over the country,
the one that has fascinated so many people is Abdul El-Sayed,
the Democratic candidate for Senate,
versus Mike Rogers, two men of two very different generations coming
at things very differently.
El-Sayed has successfully become the very first Muslim senator ever.
That has a lot of people in this room excited about what
is in their minds possible.
Of course, it has been an issue over the course of the campaign.
But the big issue, frankly, in Michigan has been tariffs,
tariffs against Canada, tariffs generally.
And why is that? Because people here look at tariffs
and say they have made my life more expensive.
And by equating those two things, cost of living really
is the top of the ballot issue with those two things in a.
Border state in particular,
listening to some of the rhetoric about Canada,
a place they know, a place they can often see.
I mean, we're a kilometer, maybe,
from the Canadian border in this building right now.
It's on the other side of the Detroit River.
And so that is why Michigan has become this race to watch.
