The Republican Party has suffered a sweeping rebuke,
and the man at its helm is already
deflecting blame.
I wasn't on the ballot, and if I was, we would have won in a landslide.
The U.S. president is now facing an emboldened Democratic Party,
with new powers it could
use to investigate Donald Trump and his administration.
We don't work for the president.
We don't work for the vice president.
We don't work for the Supreme Court.
We work for all of you, the American people.
Top House Democrats have vowed to go after corruption
and are expected to pursue the Trump family's business dealings
and the billions of dollars it has made since he has
been back in the White House.
They also consider the Epstein files unfinished business,
with millions of files unreleased or still heavily redacted.
And a week before the midterms,
Representative Jamie Raskin laid the groundwork
with the Judiciary Democrats' report
that claimed five women accused Trump of rape or sexual assault
in Epstein's company or presence.
Then there's the possibility of impeachment.
While Hakim Jeffries has said they are not ruling it out,
some are hesitant after Trump's first term when he was impeached twice
before being acquitted by the Senate.
They could instead target Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth,
possibly with support from members of both parties.
Trump's war in Iran could also be limited,
as the elected officials would have the power
to block funds requested by the president.
The Democrats' list of plans is long
and also includes making the rich pay their fair share
and calling out false information spread by social media news and AI.
But with Trump's presidency rooted in executive power,
they are sure to face many vetoes and battles ahead.
