In October of 1906, a steam shovel cutting the first bench of the Utah Copper Company's new open pit in Bingham Canyon, Utah, skated across something under forty feet of unbroken rock. It took three days to uncover: a wheel of dark metal sixty-one feet across, lying perfectly level, with twelve arms, a raised hub, and one square hole in the middle that a hundred-foot steel tape could not find the bottom of.

A deputy mineral surveyor measured it, and kept two columns in his field book: what he saw on the left, what he was told on the right. Most of the right side belongs to a Ute horse trader from the Uintah Basin who, before anyone had described the thing to him, asked two questions. Did it have twelve arms? Was the hole four-cornered? Then he said it was not lying there. It was going around, and whoever lived on it would one day have to leave. Thirty-three years later an old man at Whiterocks said the same thing to a writer from the Utah Writers' Project. In 1958 a Kennecott surveyor found the wheel again under the town, and the arm with the five notches was no longer where it had been left.

Was it a buried turntable, a mass of barren rock, or something the records were never filed to describe?

Sealed Record No. 013. The places, the companies and the history around them are real. The discovery, the documents and the people who record it are dramatized. The images are illustrations, not archival photographs.

This documentary examines historical records, archaeological research, and Indigenous oral traditions. It presents documented findings alongside long-standing questions that remain open. Where accounts differ, both are presented. Nothing here is offered as a settled conclusion.
