This video provides a comprehensive guide to the ideal \"set and forget\" settings for the Insta360 X6, specifically tailored for vlogging and on-the-go filming. The creator emphasizes a workflow that prioritizes convenience and high dynamic range, allowing users to capture everything in 360 degrees and handle framing during post-production.
When I'm filming on the go with the Insta360 X6,
I want to be able to capture moments as quickly as possible
without thinking about the camera settings.
So in this video, I will be sharing with you
my go-to settings for the X6.
This way you can set it once and forget.
And I'm also filming this entire video on the X6.
This way you can see also how it performs in the real world
using those exact settings
that I'll be sharing with you today.
One of the big reasons I love shooting on a 360 camera
is that it captures everything around me.
I don't need to worry about framing
and can do that later in post.
This way I can also enjoy the moment more.
The only thing I need to do is extend the pole,
start recording and...
It captures the entire moment.
Now, if you love to capture your day or do vlogs,
I genuinely think that the X6
is a great camera to start with.
Not only can you capture everything around you,
but you can also choose single lens mode,
which acts like a traditional camera
where you just use one lens to get a flat 16 by nine format.
This way you don't need to reframe in post.
So let's now get into the camera settings,
starting with the resolution and frame.
Frame rate I like to record in 8K,
which is the highest resolution on the X6 and the frame
rate I set to 25 frames per second
when I'm doing talking head videos like right now and
don't plan on slowing down the footage, 25 frames per second.
is what I choose most of the time.
If I do plan on filming in slow motion I set it to 50 frames
per second but most of the time I leave it at 25 frames per second.
Also by choosing a lower frame
rate like 25 frames per second I can save on storage space.
Now keep in mind that 8K will
Today we'll record the entire 360 sphere,
but when you're later on choosing a certain
frame from the 360 video,
you're not getting the full 8K resolution.
So just keep that in mind.
By the way, if you're wondering about the accessories
that I'm using for the X6,
I kept it really minimal for this video.
I'm using this selfie stick that has deployable legs.
So when I place it on the ground, the legs open up.
And now I can talk hands-free.
The next thing you want to do is set your bitrate to high.
This way, it will capture more information per frame
and you overall get a higher quality output.
However, do keep in mind that it does use up more storage.
Next up, in video mode, you want to set it to pro.
This way, we can access the advanced settings.
What I like to record in is in iLog.
Which is basically a flat picture profile.
This way it will capture at a higher dynamic range.
Preserving the shadows and highlights better.
And allow me to more flexibly color grade.
My footage in post afterwards,
and I also find that iLog provides a more natural look in my
videos than using the standard profile.
Now, if you never color graded iLog footage before,
I do have LUT packs available, which you can apply to your ILOG footage
without needing a conversion LUT to instantly get a look.
There's the ILOG essential LUT pack,
which gives you a natural look in your video
with three different options, standard, rich,
And then there's the creative LUT pack, which gives you a more
More stylized look in your videos
with eight different looks to choose from.
So this way you can save time in the edit,
not having to color grade from scratch.
And on top of that, also my go-to settings
for the Insta360 X6 are included.
So if you're interested in it,
the link is in the video description below.
I also recommend turning on color recovery.
This way, when looking at your screen,
you're not looking at a flat looking image.
So this is just an assistant that converts
the flat looking profile into a
normal looking one so that you can better judge
the exposure and the image
overall. Next up is ISO and you guessed it, right?
I leave that in auto shutter speed. I leave that in auto.
I don't use any ND filters. I don't care much about
Natural motion blur in my vlogs.
Now there are instances where I use an ND filter,
for example, the car shot I did,
but most cases I don't use an ND filter
because it's just too much of a hassle.
The reason for that is because I don't want to be
adjusting the brightness of the video constantly,
especially on a cloudy day like today,
the sun hides behind the clouds and then reappears again.
It should reappear in just a second.
You can see,
So it adjusts for me when it gets brighter.
If I would set that to manual,
I would have to put on the right ND filter
and that's just too much of a hassle.
So I like to keep it in auto
and the EV I set to negative 0.3 on a sunny day.
This way it will protect the highlights a bit better
and I can keep the overall exposure.
a bit lower. When it comes to white balance, I leave that in auto.
It generally does a good job
of detecting the white balance
and keeping it consistent throughout the recording. Now,
if you know that you're recording outdoors
or if you're filming indoors, you can also set it
to a specific value. But like I said,
most of the time I leave it in auto and it generally
does a good job. In terms of sharpness, I like to set it to medium.
Now, I recommend you test
test it out for yourself, which one you like better, but I find
Medium to be the sweet spot.
So throughout this video I've been using the internal mic
on the X6. I think it sounds pretty good.
Now you do have the option to connect the mic pro from
Insta360 which is a wireless mic.
This way you can stand further away from the camera and still
capture clean audio. And I'm now using the selfie stick
which is I think 2.5 meters if I'm not
Not mistaken.
And.
The audio should still sound pretty good.
It's also not noisy.
There's almost no wind.
But overall, I love using the internal mic
because it makes it so convenient.
I don't need to connect a wireless mic necessarily,
which just makes vlogging on the go.
quicker. I recommend enabling audio intelligent mode.
This way it will detect the environment
and pick a suitable setting for your audio.
You also have the ability to enable wind noise
reduction if you're in a windy environment.
That's about it for the audio settings.
And the last thing you need to do is save
your settings as a preset. This way you
don't have to dial everything in manually
and can just select your custom preset.
So these are my reliable go-to vlog settings for the Insta360 X6
which you can set once
and forget if you have any questions feel free
to drop a comment below. Also be sure to check
out my iLog LUT pack. Other than that thanks for watching
and I'll see you in the next one.
