Welcome in tonight at 10. We start
with an update out of Northern Virginia.
A story we told you earlier at 5 o'clock tonight.
A teenage boy hit by a car right outside of Chantilly High School.
Sidney Persing joins us live tonight
from the scene with the very latest. Sidney?
Well, Jim and Angie, we know at last check
that teen boy is still fighting for his life
in the hospital tonight.
Last I spoke with police, they described his condition as life
threatening after he was hit by a car just
in front of the high school around three o'clock
this afternoon. Obviously, the scene
has since cleared. So I want to get you
right to some video. Now,
this is what we saw as soon as we got on the ground here.
Just around 5 o'clock this evening,
you can see there a number of investigators were here
trying to reconstruct the scene, a heavy police presence,
again, in front of the high school
on Stringfellow Road.
You see police tape and also a gray Volkswagen
that we eventually watched get towed away.
Police still tonight, they have not confirmed
if that teen is a student at the high school.
Neither has the school district.
I also tried to ask them.
But we do know that call came into police at 3.12 this evening.
Last bell here at this school, that rings at 2.55.
That is all the information we have from police tonight,
but I can tell you a source told me tonight that teen
was attempting to cross the northbound lane here of Stringfellow.
not on a crosswalk area. And that brings us back out here live.
I just want to call your
attention to this sign. You might have seen it
in the video we just aired for you. It says
pedestrians use marked crosswalk.
And then it has an arrow pointing to my left. Several yards down
that way is where the marked crosswalk is.
And I just want to point out to you, Jim and Angie,
where this teen was apparently hit is right behind me.
That's the school. That's the parking lot
where I am standing in this parking lot is a library.
So it's certainly possible
That historically or even currently,
kids do try to cross this road just given the proximity
to the library. Again, that crosswalk is several yards down that way.
We don't know if there's a
history of crashes here. We're trying to find that out.
And as soon as we learn it, we will
update you. We will also stay on top of that teen's condition.
And as soon as we have information,
we will let you know on air and online. Jim and Angie.
