6 people dead, 7 others injured in Sunset Park fire

Yeah, definitely a tragedy and just really a frightening scene here as just behind me down this block is where that two-story home is, where that fire started early this morning. Now, since we've been here, the death count has continued to grow. We now know from the FDNY that... Four people are dead while nine others are hurt. Now, I want to take a minute to show you what we've been seeing here all morning. You could see their firefighters, EMS crews still at the scene while some neighbors are even standing outside watching the damage that is left over. Now, FDNY tells us they were even forced to bring out hazmat resources because they found lithium ion batteries inside that home. Now take a look. This is citizen video on your screen of those frightening moments where you could see their flames shooting out of a second floor window. FDNY says they received a call of heavy fire just after 1.30 this morning inside this Sunset Park home on 58th Street between 6th Avenue and 7th Avenue. Now, in the middle of crews battling the blaze, one person in a tank top is seen sprinting out of the home, covered in debris and burned. Moments later, he collapses on the floor, EMS crews rushing to help him. Now, FDNY says the fire continued to grow and even extended it to a nearby home. At this time, FDNY tells us that despite bringing out that safety gear, they are still investigating the cause of the fire. In the meantime, what we know from those nine victims, we know two of them are in critical, while three others are firefighters. Now, there is a press conference expected to be held here later this morning. Of course, we'll bring that to you both on air and online. In Sunset Park, Jonathan Calixto, News 12.
