AI GeneratedCarson discusses his preparation and mindset heading into a Monday night matchup. He expresses confidence in his comfort level with Coach KOC's system, emphasizes the importance of offensive consistency to support a strong defense, and shares his philosophy on balancing aggression with ball security while aiming for a team victory.
Carson, when did you get over Sunday night?
Um.
Wasn't really sure the first couple days of the week,
but again, I prepare the same way, especially early in the week
with how I prepare and get my body right, get my mind right,
get ahead on the opponent.
Also, it's nice to have an extra day this week too to prepare,
and I'm excited for it.
How comfortable do you feel now in this system?
I know you got thrown into a similar situation last year
and you've been coming from the outside,
but just now that you've been with KOC for a long time.
I feel very comfortable.
Obviously, last year was a whirlwind.
We've talked enough about that.
But, you know, even those two games early this year,
just to kind of get...
Kind of the whirlwind out of the way, so to speak.
And hear his voice in the headset,
go through a game, see how he calls a game.
I mean, we had a mud ball obviously down there in Chicago, but
still like just going through a game again.
And now these last couple weeks, just watching from the sideline,
I do feel very comfortable when I'm out there.
Nothing specific.
I think just biggest thing that our goal this week, stay on the field.
You know, I think it's just been too
inconsistent even when I was playing early.
You know, I thought we just, we were too
inconsistent staying on the field.
And our defense is playing lights out.
And so I think we've got to just find ways to stay on the field and,
you know, keep them off the field, the defense that is,
and be consistent with what we're doing.
And I'm excited to kind of...
See that come to life this week.
We've got a great opponent coming in.
Obviously, everyone knows who they are,
what they've built over the years.
They're quite the team.
So I'm excited for a fun Monday night matchup for sure.
Tell us about those first two games
that you played earlier this evening.
Yeah.
Just physically felt that, you know, still can do it, still can play,
still can kind of mesh with some of these receivers.
And, you know, it wasn't perfect by no means.
But at the end of the day, the goal is to win.
You know, the goal is to win and find a way to win.
And we did that the first couple weeks.
And so I look forward to trying to continue that.
Carson, throughout your career,
what have you learned about the balance
of pushing the ball down the field
and at the same time taking care of the ball?
You're always learning that.
You're always learning how to balance
being aggressive, being a playmaker.
It's one of those things, I'd be lying if when you're younger,
you're not a little more gung ho to push the ball and play aggressive.
But there's an edge to that that I think is good.
I think you never wanna lose that kind of attack mentality.
But
But you learn kind of when to pick and choose those,
when to know your matchups,
know your guys' situations in the ballgame,
whether it's first and second down,
maybe not as aggressive as maybe
a third down play, those types of things.
So learn just kind of like when to pick
and choose those times to be aggressive,
but try not to ever lose that kind of killer mentality
when the opportunity is there.
Can you get in sync with Jets?
I know he always says he loves the quarterback, so you trust him.
Like no matter where he is on the field,
we saw him leave his feet in Detroit.
What have you learned when you have been with Justin
as to how you can get in sync with him quickly?
Yeah, I mean, just get him the rock.
I mean, he's as good as I've been around.
And so, you know, for him, the last couple weeks, maybe, you know,
not getting it as much as he would maybe want, I get it.
I'd be frustrated if I were him.
I mean, he's as good as it gets at his position.
And I look forward to just, you know,
I want to give him the rock as much as anybody.
So I look forward to trying to do that without forcing it.
You know, we got a bunch of talent on this offensive side of the ball.
So my job is just to distribute it.
And I'm confident he'll get his this week.
Yeah, my goal is just to get a win.
At the end of the day, this position is judged by wins and losses,
and in this building, our goal is to win.
And so whatever that takes, whatever it looks like,
my job this week is to get a win,
and we'll let the chips fall where they may as we go forward.
But I've enjoyed being here.
I enjoy this offense, enjoy this team, enjoy working with Coach KOC,
and I'm excited for another opportunity.
What does it say about this team,
that that first loss you guys took so hard?
I know 6-1 is still a good record, but it was a tough loss.
What does it say about you guys?
Yeah, I mean, we're just a competitive bunch.
It's a close-knit team, and I think...
You go into every week, especially
a divisional game, you expect to win.
You play to win, you expect to win, and that was a good opponent,
good team on the road, and to feel like we maybe had it
as we got down the stretch there
and just didn't quite do enough to win it.
You know, it's...
It's tough.
It's hard to win in this league, so anytime you feel even a little bit
that you let one get away, I like that guy's take it tough.
We expect greatness around here.
We expect to win every time we step on that field,
and so hopefully that's an edge we can use this week.
Max is great.
He's been super helpful for me really
from the moment I got here last year.
I know he was a rookie, but just a wealth
of knowledge within this playbook.
And, you know, he's a sharp guy.
And so he's been super helpful.
On the field with both me and Kyler,
offering insight within this offense,
different guys, but he's been great, and he knows this system well.
For a young guy, I think he processes
the game really fast and really well,
and so I like the way he's grown and developed,
and yeah, he'll be ready.
When you decided to come back here, do you remember kind of like what
your process was to make the decision of why you started?
Yeah, I mean, there's a ton of backstory on a lot of things,
but at the end of the day, I had a lot of appreciation
for this organization, a lot of confidence in this team.
The coaching staff had no idea how it would play out,
you know, what kind of situation would look like,
all that stuff, but I felt confident that if...
I had a chance to play, there'd be games to win
and that we could win here.
And that was really the deciding factor
is trying to find a way to win if called
upon and just another year under my belt within the system.
It's been a few years since I've had that.
So the connection with KOC last year, even though it was short lived,
I just felt really confident
in that and the ability to go win ball games.
And here we are.
Thanks, man.
Cool, thank you guys.
