Well two days later it's now official
as 11 Democrats from New Jersey are headed to
Washington to just one Republican.
The Associated Press finally confirmed tonight that Democrat
Zach Mullock beat Congressman Jeff Van Drew
in Congressional District 2. We had a pretty good
idea that was the outcome though Tuesday
when the Cape May Mayor was seen celebrating.
Representative Van Drew called Mullick and conceded.
Van Drew served four terms in the
House. He was one of two Republicans from New Jersey
to lose their seat Tuesday night. The
other, Tom Cain Jr. Cain lost to Rebecca Bennett,
who is one of Eric Lanskroner's guests this weekend
on Power and Politics.
Fresh off her big win in this week's Blue Wave, Congresswoman-elect
Rebecca Bennett stopped by the News 12 studios today.
We spoke one-on-one about her 16-point
It's a point win over Tom Kane Jr.
I will say you know it was definitely
a little bit better than what we thought
we were gonna have going into it
but you know I'm not super surprised because of
what we ran on. It's very humbling you know
for me really the reason why I
decided to run in the first place
is because I love this country and I just
wanted to serve in a new capacity.
Has it really set in yet that you've won?
No.
Also today, we heard from the only Republican member left
of New Jersey's congressional
delegation, Congressman Chris Smith,
who was re-elected in the 4th District for his 24th
term.
He was asked if Tuesday was a rebuke
of President Trump's policies and administration.
I will have to look back.
I don't know how many people were voting on and what issues.
I just don't know yet.
You know, that's, you know, pollsters and you guys can ferret that out.
I'm not really sure.
With the amount of seats that Democrats won, though.
I don't think, I don't think.
Enough people will realize some of the good that was done.
