IMPORTANT - I was stupid to handle this bat without gloves even though I was trying to help if the bite had broken the skin I could have been in a world of trouble. PLEASE NOTE: If you find a bat (in the UK) please call the Bat Conservation Trust helpline on 0845 1300 228. Trying to rescue a disorientated bat and being rewarded with bites, lol Does this mean I have rabies now or will I just turn into a vampire?
I think this is a Daubenton's bat but someone more knowledgeable can correct me on that. They skim the surface of my pond on a night but this is the first time I have seen one during the day. We sometimes see the Pipistrelle bats during the day in late summer but this looks larger than those guys. As long as it isn't a vampire bat I'll be OK, lol Thanks for watching and appreciating my videos - your support is much appreciated.
Where?
On a bit of wood.
Oh yeah.
Look at that.
I'm not sure.
It doesn't really want to be out
in the day though, does it?
All the old magpies and crows will get it.
It's quite
a big one, isn't it?
That seems alright.
It's good,
isn't it?
It's been somewhere dusty with spider's webs on its head.
Can I
hold
it?
It might bite if you hold it.
Let's put him up
here, shall we?
There you go, lad.
Yeah, how's that?
Will he be able to fly?
What if he falls?
He'll not fall off.
I think he will.
He might fall off.
Oh, catch him quick, Dad.
He's stuck.
Right, let's give him some bugs.
Right, shall we get a net?
Er, yes.
Bug sucker thingy from the...
Yeah, you go and get that and I'll try to find something.
I spotted it out of Freya's window.
Yeah, it was a good spot.
I saw something climbing up the thing and I realised it was a bat.
Right, lad.
I'm going to go and get the net.
I'm going to go and get the net.
I'm going to go and get the net.
I'm going to go and get the net.
I'm going to go and get the net.
Yeah, it was a good spot.
I saw something climbing up the thing and I realised it was a bat.
Just hold your horses. Hold your horses.
There's no need for that. Here. Look. Here, here, here. Moth.
There's a beetle down there.
That would be better for him.
Yeah.
Oh, you're a climbing frame.
Hooray!
He's a good little spider.
Oh, here, man.
Oh, God. Oh, did you hear it?
Did you hear that?
Where's it gone?
Go on.
It's on your shoulder.
Oh, Dad, it's climbing down your top. Should we get him?
Is it?
Well, it's wings down your top.
It's foot's down the top, yeah, it's wings.
James, do you want it...
Whoa, look at his feet.
Right, try and feed him that.
Dad, he's, like, stuck in your top.
Maybe he's a vampire.
Oh, he's actually biting your top.
Oh, my God, he is.
I can feel it biting.
Not the skin, but I can feel it biting the T-shirt.
Maybe he's a vampire.
Oh, he's...
Oh, my God, he's actually put a vampire hole in it.
Yeah, he has.
I'm not even joking.
Oh, my God, he has, yeah.
Look at that.
He has.
He's a vampire.
Oh, now he's cleaning himself.
Oh, that's good.
It's good if he's cleaning himself.
That means he's healthy enough to do that.
I think this is probably a good place to let him go.
We'll maybe just let him go on that bank side up there.
He can climb in amongst all those logs
and there'll be loads of things for him to eat up there.
Does he feel nice?
He just feels like a little scaly mouse.
Let go little guy. Let go of daddy.
There, he's doing a good job. That's it.
Come on lad.
Oh, I thought he had a bite there but he didn't.
Should I put him... He's got it back, he's got it back, he's got it.
Do you want me to put you there?
Oh, you had it
in your mouth.
I don't, it's maybe he's not hungry, you know.
I've been eating a lot.
Oh, you know!
It doesn't end.
Did he bite your finger?
He bit me thumb.
Ah!
Right, let's just let him go.
I'm sure he's alright. He seems strong enough.
If we let him go up here, he'll be able to climb in amongst all
of this and I'm sure there's loads for him to eat up here.
Right. Yeah, Dad?
Yeah, look at that. He's cleaning. Cleaning his wings.
His wings were like buckled, weren't they?
Yeah.
Sorting them out.
That's good. He's got coppers on his head still.
Right, shall we let him go?
No, he's having a scratch,
like a dog scratching fleas, look at that.
Right, hope he doesn't bite again.
Hopefully not.
There, safe and sound.
There goes Mr. Bat.
Is he just
staying there?
Have a nice life.
Yeah, he's just getting his breath back.
Here he goes.
Oh, you little...
