Citizen tip leads to arrest in Philadelphia beauty salon shooting, sex assault

Tonight, the man accused of shooting and killing a woman in East Mountain area, as well as assaulting two others at a hair salon, is behind bars. Our Jill Croce outside that salon tonight with more from investigators and neighbors. The memorial remains tonight outside of Abba Bless Beauty Salon and the store has been closed since Monday's fatal shooting and assaults and the person wanted for days, Jamal Pistoria, now in police custody after an early morning tip. It was very surprising that something would go down like this in broad daylight, you know, but glad they caught the guy. That's the key part. So justice will be served. The suspect on the run for days connected to Monday's fatal shooting and assaults at Abba Bless Beauty Salon on the 6300 block of Staten Avenue is now in police custody. Philadelphia's homicide unit says 33 year old Jamal Pistoria was arrested overnight on a SEPTA bus without incident. Warrants for his arrest included charges of murder, attempted murder and related assault charges according to staff inspector Ernest Ransom. Now I think it's very important to mention this. Jamal Pastorea's arrest was the result of a citizen calling 911. The 9-1-1 call taker, I mean, the citizen provided the 9-1-1 call taker with all the pertinent information we needed. That included the bus. Ransom says around 1 a.m. officers from the 22nd district responded to a radio call for a wanted homicide suspect. And that's when Pistoria was arrested on SEPTA bus 7465 at 500 South Broad Street. The suspect entered the bus at Broad in Lehigh Avenue. The tip hotline received numerous calls from citizens in Philadelphia. And I think that's a testament to the citizens that they are tired of the crime as well. So this individual who actually caught in this particular case, we take our hats off to him. There's a lot of schools. Like I said, my son go to the school that was right by the street. It was two o'clock noon, like afternoon. So the time that it happened, it was real busy. So, yeah, it was it's just a real tragedy. My condolences to the family and the victims that did survive. You know, I commend them for fighting for their life. And I hope that they can heal from this trauma. Surveillance video from Monday shows the moments a woman runs out of the store, followed by Pastoria's exit. Investigators allege he entered the salon, fatally shot Ophelia Bellaneri Hernandez-Camille, featured on this verified GoFundMe page, and assaulted two other workers. The homicide unit says that there's no indication that he knew the women inside and the man has had prior run ins with the law outside of this area prior arrest, but they could not elaborate at this time.
