Flu season may be ramping up,
but it's not the only illness stirring concern at the CDC.
Measles cases and deaths now at the highest level in decades,
mostly among unvaccinated Americans.
Here in Washington, 58 cases of measles have
been confirmed this year compared to just 12 in 2025.
As Fox's Jared Halpern reports, some lawmakers blame
the Trump administration for a rise in vaccine hesitancy.
I think we should be very concerned.
The measles outbreak is getting worse.
On Friday, the CDC confirmed there
are now more than 5,000 cases in 45 states and D.C.
And this week, three more measles deaths were reported,
including a child in New York State and an infant in Wisconsin.
Officials say almost all the cases have been among unvaccinated people.
The reasons behind that can be many,
from fear or hesitancy of vaccines to religious choices
The outbreak is the worst in the U.S. since 1991,
and Democrats are blaming HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
It's come roaring back largely because of vaccine misinformation
and disinformation promoted by...
A quack conspiracy theorist, RFK.
After their big wins in the midterms this week,
some Democrats are now floating the idea of impeaching the secretary.
That is more than just negligence,
and certainly he should be held accountable for it.
But the administration is pushing back,
claiming its messaging on vaccines has been strong and consistent.
The MMR vaccine is safe and effective,
and it is the best way to prevent measles, period.
It's also not clear what HHS is doing to contain the outbreak.
The CDC says they are working with local officials to stop the spread.
We're providing surveillance, funding, laboratory support.
We're doing everything that we can to make sure
that we're protecting Americans from
these outbreaks.
The measles vaccination rate has dropped to about 92 percent.
That is down from about 95 percent during the 2019-2020 school year.
