This is unbelievable to watch...
Nov 7, 2026
This is unbelievable.
I felt like the days of these third period
and even first period comebacks were not gone
for Montreal, but they'd be fewer and further in between.
But Montreal, once again, plays the comeback kid style with first...
Goals of the season from three separate players,
Nick Suzuki, the captain, putting on a clinic
in his first game back with three points,
and Arbor point bomb Cole Caulfield once again
making history in terms of not just Habs OT winners,
but also most game-winning goals
over the last five years.
We're going to dive into all of that.
Kirby Dach had a great game.
What else could you ask for?
I mean, maybe fewer goals against,
maybe fewer ill-advised penalties, but that was pretty
much it.
This Utah team, they make you pay if you take penalties.
At least we took a few, some.
Right calls, some not-so-right calls,
some very obvious not-so-right calls,
but it is what it is, and Montreal comes out with a massive victory.
Jesse, this is now, let's just show it.
It's nine straight now, nine straight games without a regulation loss.
Six of those did not have Nick Suzuki,
and we still have reinforcements coming.
I don't know, I'm so excited to talk about everything in this game.
By the way, if you guys are excited too,
we're on the road to 30,000 subscribers by the end of December.
We're at 28,817 right now.
Let's try to get to 28,825.
How you feeling after this one?
It was a rollercoaster of emotions, but you know what?
Felt like we haven't had too much
of those for a while if we ignore last game.
Yeah, I'm feeling it.
You know, hit that subscribe button
and let us know how you're feeling in the comments too.
Josh, how I'm feeling, we just need to start about Cole Caulfield.
Too much talent, too much skill.
That just explains why he's such a wizard in overtime.
You give this guy any opportunity, that shot.
Can we just give some praise on that top corner?
Again, so much cheese on that.
Again, like it was just so amazing.
His ability to take over the game here when it really matters the most.
Again, we don't want to underestimate,
undervalue what Cole Caulfield does here.
An absolute elite game changer.
But it was the whole complete team effort here tonight.
We know again where we were maybe taking a couple too many penalties.
5v5, the obviously...
Some of the opportunities were a little bit harder to come by,
but we're having that depth that really took us over the top.
And it's people you don't expect all the time.
Adam Ekstrom, right?
Like that first goal we saw back,
he had, it was making me think the same way.
Again, just some players that just have some great talent.
Guys like Arbor Jack guy being able to contribute.
Dog going to the front of the net.
Obviously, even though it's not maybe pretty,
it's going to the front, funneling the puck on the power play.
When we got those opportunities,
we're able to make the most of it.
Nick Suzuki's coming back, making an impact again.
Montreal Canadiens team that just continues to get points,
continues to rack it up.
So much to be proud of for the boys
and bouncing back here tonight.
Totally agree.
And now the Atlantic is very much up for grabs.
We're still just sitting a couple of points behind Boston,
but like as soon as someone slips,
we're ready to step up like this team.
The thing is, like we said,
this team played very well 5v5.
And actually funny,
Caulfield had the lowest game score of any forward,
which just goes to show, you know, anyway.
It's skewed a little bit by certain situations in this game.
But 5v5, this team was good.
And you know what?
You mentioned Kirby.
And I want to mention him as well.
Because my goodness, did he ever have a fantastic game in this one.
His first game back after an illness, which maybe I caught it from him.
Because of course, I totally hang out with Kirby Doc.
But listen, Kirby Doc had...
Is it a stretch to say that was his best game of the season?
It felt like he was all over the place.
Yes, he had one.
There was one point where he had a turnover exiting
his own zone that led to a chance.
That was late in the game, and I panicked.
But no, all in all, it was really good.
And the line stats, they kind of show it, too.
That new hook, Cap and Dock line,
they still controlled about half the shots.
But for their fourth line, it was really not that bad.
But Kirby himself, I thought, honestly
better than the other two, which is crazy.
I think Newhook's still trying to find his home.
But Kirby Dach himself?
was generating so many chances, that beautiful goal,
where? Right on the doorstep, where he should be.
He's a guy that can use his size,
and we know that Marty San Luis has continued to sing his praises,
talking about over this past stretch
of winning games without Nick Suzuki,
how Kirby Dach has kind of forced his hand into playing him more,
because he's just been great.
And this kind of continued tonight.
I mean, I don't know what to expect from him in the near future.
I know a lot of fans are already kind
of out on him for one reason or another,
but if he continues to put up games like this,
even if it's not every night, I mean...
Again, this decision that we're going to have to make
when it comes to some of the cuts from the lineup today
is just going to be even tougher.
For sure, and he's going to continue to get rewarded
if he just goes to the net and really plays that simple game.
That's what we really needed on the power play here.
Just to really simplify some things.
Again, why we see, obviously, the Utah Mammoth,
why their power play is so good is that...
Quick puck movement.
And I want to just take a little bit more of a page out of that book.
We obviously have the skill to just play that similar game
and just get your quick shots off when you have that opportunity.
Again, we almost shot ourselves in the foot.
If it's not for that great shot from Engstrom here,
again, we're potentially losing this game
because, again, just too many penalties and inopportune times.
But again, we just have the depth.
We have too much talent, right?
That's what makes it hard to beat the Montreal Canadiens.
It's not just that first line.
Even though I just want to say,
Give us a spotlight really quick
to Yaroslav Koskinin on his playmaking ability.
I've noticed it.
You all have noticed it here as well.
Again, it's not just this game,
but it's going back to several
where Slavcil still is just
send up plays all over the ice
for his teammates.
And for me, that was just
such a big part of it.
I almost want to see him
be a little bit more selfish
looking for his own shot.
Only two goals on the season,
10 assists here.
But again, he's contributing.
He's helping his team.
We know he's second half Slap anyway.
He's going to really heat up
in the second part of it,
but we're seeing he's gaining traction
because we want to see him
be that point per game type of player
Now, he is not there yet.
I think we're perfectly due for Olli Saikkonen
heating up over these next couple games
and really being able to take it over here.
But again, I want to also speak of another game changer
for here tonight is Jakub Dobesh.
Again, just so big.
And basically a battle in a lot of ways
with Sebastian Koski,
who had a very good game in his own respect here.
Getting a big W against a very good Utah Mammoth team here
just has to feel good for his confidence.
Um, and you got to feel like he's just going
to look to build upon that because you know
that he's got faith in himself and his teammates do as well.
Yeah, I completely agree.
And again, like one goal at 5v5 allowed, like three power play goals.
It's like, well, you know, what are you going to do?
You know, like he, he did what he needed to do.
And I know the save percentage is right now he's sitting
at lowest in the league of all
goalies who have, or besides Kevin Lankan
and of all goalies who have, he's in the league
resume, I'm sorry, but of all goalies
who have at least five starts.
But again, I don't think that reflects his actual performance, right?
I think he is better than those numbers show,
and I think he will continue to prove that.
And tonight, yeah, like, he looked so hyped up after this game.
And, you know, I would be surprised if it wasn't Jacob Fowler
going against the Leafs on Saturday.
But these kind of games, these wins for Dobesh,
they matter a lot for his psyche, for the team's psyche as well,
because we've seen before when there's a goalie behind him that's like,
you know, maybe there's a soft goal that gets let in here or there.
It's like, it can affect you.
But so far, that wasn't the case, and I
don't think it was the case tonight.
So we'll see.
I like that all these players are coming back,
coming back, coming back.
Just to highlight again, like,
we still have more reinforcements coming.
Now, the Ivan Dmitrov situation is a bit weird.
Dan Milstein talked today about how he
might even still be a couple weeks away.
But regardless, he's coming soon.
So is Mike Matheson.
For better or for worse, so is Sam Maltembo.
But all these things put together, Jesse, as I mentioned earlier,
I thought the third line, the fourth line,
like, we have some solid players
playing some good games today.
Kirby Doc had a good game.
Again, that line, whatever, 5v5 stats.
But Kreider Evans-Anderson looked good again today.
That top line cannot be touched ever again.
Like, seriously.
You talk about fast puck movement on the Utah Power Play.
That Habs line of 5v5 had even better puck movement,
I think, than Utah's power play
at moments.
It was insane to watch.
But now you have the question,
and I want to ask the fans, for next game, should one
of Flory and Jacky or Owen Beck draw back in?
Now, the question is for who, right?
Would they go for Doc now, not after a game like that?
Kapanen?
I don't know if that's something Marty would want to do.
The thing is, like, I'm still probably going to say no,
I don't think they do, because
you win a game, you take a lot of penalties,
you win the game, though, so it's fine.
But I think Florian, Jack, and Owen Beck,
the fact that we're even having this conversation
is such, it's kind of crazy
and almost unfathomable that we're having this conversation at this
point in the season with an almost fully
healthy forward core minus just Ivan Demidov.
And I think that's a good thing.
But it also shows that, like, even
if you have good games from Montreal, like a lot
of our bottom six guys did tonight, your spot's not guaranteed.
And I think it's a fun thought experiment
to look a couple weeks even out.
And again, the Montreal Canadiens are just,
it's going to depend on what you need
going into different matchups.
I think that's the beauty of the lineup right now.
And really, we can just play the game
any different type of way
that really the Montreal Canadiens need to going forward.
So I think they're going to be well equipped.
I completely agree.
Well, leave your thoughts on this whole game down below.
And there's a few other things just briefly
I want to talk about.
Noah Dobson, he's got another two points tonight.
He's got to score eventually.
They showed a list during this game
of all defensemen in the league
who have at least 30 shots without a goal.
At the time, Wierenski was there, but he scored tonight.
It's all like elite defensemen.
Dobson's points are going to come.
Lane Hutson, like, we can talk about a million different things,
but this team just wins games.
And now Jakub Dobyš is winning games.
Fowler just wins games.
We're so excited for the next one.
Leave your thoughts on everything down below.
That'll do it, though, for this episode.
Thank you so much for tuning in every single day.
And don't forget to hit that free subscribe button on your way out.
I'm Josh Goss, my co-host, Jesse Paul here.
