California — Olivia Rodrigo Enters the Christmas Music Scene With First Holiday Single

Olivia Rodrigo is wasting little time welcoming the Christmas season following Halloween. Taking inspiration from Mariah Carey, widely regarded as the queen of Christmas, the 23-year-old pop star has announced her debut holiday song, “take me home (4 christmas),” which is scheduled for release this Thursday.

Rodrigo also offered fans a preview of the accompanying music video through a brief clip featuring Sex and the City star Cynthia Nixon and Saturday Night Live’s Ben Marshall. The two join a game of headbands in front of a fireplace, with every participant assigned the name “Olivia Rodrigo.”

The Christmas release adds another achievement to an already busy year for Rodrigo, who is currently touring in support of her third studio album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love. The record made chart history by making Rodrigo the first artist to have every song from her first three albums reach the Billboard Top 40.

In August, she also launched her first Daisy Chain Fields Festival. The event featured an all-female lineup, with all net proceeds directed toward various charities supporting women. Another edition of the festival has already been confirmed for next year.

Last month, Rodrigo teamed up with Chappell Roan to remix Roan’s track “Expectations,” adding another notable collaboration to her recent activities.

Meanwhile, Sabrina Carpenter has established herself as a prominent name in modern Christmas pop music. Her holiday presence has been strengthened by her 2023 EP fruitcake and the 2024 Netflix holiday variety special, A Nonsense Christmas With Sabrina Carpenter.

Rodrigo’s entry into the holiday music scene could give Carpenter some competition. The two former Disney Channel stars have long been the subject of speculation about a potential rivalry, but Rodrigo indicated in June that she would be open to working with Carpenter, telling Dazed she was interested in the possibility of a collaboration.

With Rodrigo now preparing to release her first Christmas song, fans may have another reason to hope for a holiday surprise: a collaboration between the two pop stars that could bring them together for a “Sablivia Christmas.”
