Hello my name is Joan and in this video I'm going to show you the basic luggage I'm going to take on my next trip to Norway
Especially in northern Norway in February
That is I will mainly go to the Tromso area and the Svalbard islands
Then temperatures can drop to minus 20 minus 25 degrees
and it's very important to wear the right clothing
So I'm going to show you what I'm going to take I'm
not going to show you the whole suitcase
I just want to focus on clothing things you can't miss
What is essential for these very cold climates such as
northern Norway in this case is that you wear thermal clothing
I'm going to wear these pants which are thermal
Well as you can see they are very small but that makes them very convenient to carry
It seems you're not carrying anything and you're keeping a lot of cold
out At the same time it's a very good insulating layer
Just like thermal pants I also recommend that you wear thermal shirts
They are very thin so they are very easy to carry and keep out the cold a lot
After pants I'm going to wear these
I'm going to bring two pairs of pants these ones which are for snow
That is they are completely waterproof on the outside
Since the most protective inner layer will be thermal pants I showed you earlier
But it is also lined on the inside in addition to being waterproof
Then it has a double layer and this also creates another additional thermal layer
Then between these pants and thermal pants you'll be quite well covered
Then on top of thermal shirt you can wear t-shirts shirts or anything else that is more comfortable
I for my part will wear regular t-shirts to have a
bit more agility to move more comfortably and freely
Then you can put on for example these which are polar fleece liners
Then you would put on your coat over them
Here these layers depend on what you prefer
You can also wear them it's very typical in Nordic countries
Wearing these Icelandic sweaters which are 100% wool is also very good as they provide a lot of insulation
Another essential accessory for snow is thermal socks like these
It's very thick so they are great
I recommend that you wear regular socks as a base layer and then put this on top
That gives you the advantage of having double protection
You can wear regular socks which usually take up much less space and those are the ones you should sweat in
Then you can just bring two or three pairs
Another essential part are the gloves
In my case I'm going to wear two pairs and in fact I'm going to wear both pairs at the same time
This is also very useful because when it's very cold just one layer won't insulate you enough
Then I recommend that you wear gloves of this type
It has the touch-sensitive part of the fingers so you can handle the phone the camera etc
Everything that is touchable you can handle with your gloved fingers
Gloves of this type which are very thin are a bit like the layer of thermal clothing
These gloves are very thin but they insulate well against the cold
But obviously water humidity and all of that would pass through here
Oh but just a very thin layer very thin gloves
Make them like that thermal layer like a second layer for the hands these gloves
They are already much more winter of snow than they have a thicker layer
And this will especially protect you from the wind humidity and in general from everything
But it's very useful to have the combination of thick gloves and thin ones
These fingers are also suitable for use with touchscreens as you can see
Then for the head I recommend these three accessories
On one hand you have what is called a buff a scarf
Well it has different names but anyway this is to protect the neck
Let it be nice and fat with lots of fur so it makes a good collar
Then for the head a hat also one that is well lined inside and that covers you well
And then another element that is also very useful which is known as a balaclava or ski mask
It basically covers your whole head except for your eyes
Then it also covers your nose and mouth
I usually don't wear the balaclava I only wear it just in case
I usually just fix it with the shawl and the hat
Another very important element is the footwear
So if there are things I have taught you that you can look for lower-cost alternatives
For example thermal clothing and such you can find it from any brand for very little money
It is advisable to look for really good boots
Because otherwise they can hurt your feet or not protect them well
These are North Face boots They are very good for
the mountains and on snowy terrain and the like
First of all they don't have the cane that low
That is I don't like it either when it's too high reaching beyond the ankle
Because if it's not annoying while walking
At least it causes me some discomfort after a while
Then I like that they have a cane that isn't too
short I mean this one isn't too short either it doesn't reach here
But it has a bit more just enough to cover what the ankle
is Then it's no longer so easy for the snow to get in
If you go to areas where the snow is untouched and your feet sink deeper
But anyway if you're wearing this you're wearing the lined socks
Then you can just tuck the pants in a bit here
Those will cover you very
well The important thing about these boots is that they are well insulated for the snow
Cold wind all of that is
well protected That everything
is well padded That there are no leaks of any kind
Not just because of the rain or water
But because if you are walking through the snow eventually that snow will get stuck in your boots
Then when it melts it can start to enter
Then it has to be very well protected
Then regarding coats I'm going to show you two of the ones I'm going to
wear One is this very basic down jacket
It's one of those light jackets that doesn't take up much space
I like wearing this one because it's not always going to be extremely cold
Sometimes you will be in the city or places where it's not so cold
Then a coat like this is very useful because it takes up very little space
It can be made like a
churro It can be made into a ball and takes up very little space in the suitcase
And it's very useful for times when it's not too cold
Of course you will need a coat that is very warm for extreme temperatures
I have this jacket which is a very typical
one It's from North Face This is the McMurdo
It has this hat with very thick fur
It has several pockets
And it's very heavily lined on the inside
Then this type of coats are very useful for such extreme temperatures
In addition to the other layers
It has insulation is waterproof and has all the usual features
But without the other inner layers it wouldn't be very useful
And a very useful item
It is not usually one of the most common ones
They are crampons nails as you like to call them
There are different types
I specifically have these ones that I like because they are very easy to put on
Some crampons are expensive because they usually have laces that you have to tie around your feet
And honestly you're going to have to put it on and take it off quite often
What is it very useful for This is very useful for ice
You will not use this on snow
A virgin snow that sinks beneath your feet This
is of no use
This works if you're walking through the city and the ground is frozen
If it's covered in ice patches etc
For that kind of terrain or for walking on glaciers obviously
These crampons are very useful for that kind of terrain because they dig into the ice
And avoid slipping falling etc
This is very useful for that
Virgin snow that is very wide isn't worth it For
that it's better to have
crampons You can rent them
Even crampons are rented in many places like Norway
So it wouldn't be essential for you to bring them either
But anyway it's very useful because these don't take up much space and they get you out of a pinch And
they are very easy to put on
Look just put one of the soles on the front of the boo
Then once you've put it here you pull it all the way to the heel
Then place the other part on the heel and you have all the spikes in
place And as you can see this looks very good already
You will be driving it along the entire sole
The front is a small flashlight that you wear on your head
Then you put it on your forehead
And it's very useful because if you're going on expeditions or moving around at night
And if you need additional light this one has a very powerful light You can
see it here
It comes in
different types Then well you can adjust it
But anyway this is just an example of what you could
carry Another thing recommended with the boots is this type of laces
This type of laces instead
of being regular
laces like the ones I have on this boot They are regular laces
You use these ones made of rubber
This means for example look I already have this boot on
It's also a normal cord
It's made of rubber It's elastic And it has
this kind of tip Then it has
this tip with this small button
And then you can fix this here
And then you can put it on and take it off without any problem
Step on it pull the
rubber to make it fit properly and
it won' t give you any trouble This is very useful for the same reason
If you have to be going in and out of bars and such places
and in many places they ask you to take off your boots to avoid making a mess
It is much faster this way
Well this is more or less what I'm going
to take Obviously I'll take a few more things as I mentioned before
But anyway specifically the clothes will be this
And nothing else if you have any suggestions questions or doubts you have
As always leave it in the video comments
or message me through my social media like Instagram
and I'll respond without any problem
See you next time
