Thanks for stopping by! My name is Shari Franke, an 18 year old teenage girl just trying to get through high school! 😂 Join along for all of my and my family's crazy adventures.
Good morning, you guys.
I'm excited for today.
Today is a grocery shopping day.
I'm all out of groceries, so I need to go grab some,
and you guys are gonna come along
and see how I do my shopping.
I'm on my phone.
I've been filming on my phone and not my camera lately,
so my thumb's like in the way, sorry.
So I set a budget for every month,
so I have a certain amount of money
that I spend on groceries and kind of miscellaneous items,
and I have a list of groceries.
I make it throughout the week as I go along
so that I don't need to spend a while
trying to think of everything I need to buy.
If I think of something, I just write it down,
and I tend to get kind of the same things every week,
kind of the same staples, but I'll mix a few things up.
So I have a few new recipes I'm wanting to try,
so I might show you when I come home
some of the things I make, but let's go shopping.
Okay, I'm at the store.
I have a few that are really close to where I live.
I tend to go to Walmart.
Honestly, just wherever stuff is cheapest, I will go.
I'm not very picky on...
Actually, that's such a lie.
I'm such a picky eater.
I'm not picky where I buy the food from,
if I like the food.
So I spend most of my time in the produce section.
It's so loud in here.
Getting fruits and veggies.
The bad thing about it, about being like alone,
living alone, getting your own food,
is that the veggies usually go bad
before I can eat them all.
Like the spinach and stuff only lasts for a few days,
and I get the smallest bag they have,
and it still goes bad too fast.
So I usually, I don't even know.
It says concomber.
I think that's a cucumber.
I don't know if it's the same thing.
I try to get different veggies every week,
just so I don't get sick of the same stuff.
So let's get some veggies.
Okay, so right now I have a cucumber and a zucchini.
They look the exact same,
so I have to not get them mixed up.
I have some carrots.
I got some celery last week.
It was not my favorite.
I'm not a big fan of celery.
I get a bag of spinach for salads and protein shakes,
and then I need like a lettuce mix for salads as well.
Yeah, it should be good.
I never know how to pick one that is good,
but it should be okay.
Okay, I grabbed some garlic and a lemon
for some cooking I'm gonna do.
Now I'm gonna grab some bananas
so that I can freeze them for smoothies.
When I was at home, I would get fresh chicken to cook,
but now it's like super expensive.
So I try to get the, oh, it is even more expensive today.
I try to get the frozen chicken
because I can, it lasts longer.
I don't have to eat it all in a short amount of time.
So I think three pounds is okay.
Now I'm gonna get some lunch meat
because classes are starting for summer,
and I'm doing in-person classes.
So I'll need a lunch.
And I get turkey is what I like.
There's so many different kinds of turkey.
I'm getting some peanut butter.
I eat a lot of peanut butter.
And I want to get some jam
to try a new smoothie bowl recipe.
I want some blackberry jam.
What is the difference between preserves and jam?
I'm not sure, so let me know.
I cannot believe how loud the music is today,
but I'm trying quinoa this week with my rice.
I'm gonna get some chicken stock.
I just have this good recipe I'm wanting to try.
So let's get some chicken.
Again, is there a difference between chicken broth
and chicken stock, or is it the same?
Next is some granola that can go on my smoothie bowls.
I've actually never made a smoothie bowl before,
like a yogurt bowl.
I don't exactly know what it is, but I'm gonna try it out.
So oats and honey granola, got my stock.
And now I'm just gonna grab some plain Greek yogurt,
and then I have a few non-food items I need to get.
I need to grab some bread that I forgot about.
It takes everything in me to not go
to the plant section of every store I'm in.
I don't need more plants today.
I can go without the plant section.
Okay, I grabbed a notebook for something I need it for,
and now I need a desk organizer
because I have a lot of stuff on my desk
and it looks really cluttered,
and I need to figure that out so that it looks better.
Okay, I think this is really good.
I'm excited to put it together.
I'll show you it when I'm done.
And then finally, I need a lunchbox,
and I never thought I would shop for a lunchbox again,
but I need one for lunches.
There is not that many options for lunchboxes.
It looks like they've all been taken,
so I might have to use Amazon.
Okay, I have all of my groceries that I need.
I will have to order a lunchbox online,
and now to go home and to cook some things.
So I have a weekly idea
of what my budget is going to be every week,
and I've always kind of stuck with it.
It is getting to the end of the month.
I have come under my budget,
so I was able to get a few more things
that I wouldn't normally get, like a desk organizer.
So I try to save those kind of things
for the end of the month
when I can kind of see how I did with my budget,
and then I can, you know, spend any extras,
put it in savings, whatever.
Now we're gonna go home.
I like to chop up my veggies and just put them in a bucket
so I don't have to like chop them
every time I want to eat them, and we're gonna cook.
If you don't like seeing mold,
then don't watch this next video.
Just warning you right now.
I found some cheese in the fridge that I left for a while.
Yeah, nice and green.
That is getting thrown away.
Okay, I am starting some brown rice,
which is a staple that you can just put any meat or veggie
with, my roommate has a rice cooker.
She's nice enough to lend to us.
Okay, so that's cooking.
Now I'm going to put out some frozen chicken
in a bowl of water so it can de-thaw,
and I'll cook that later today.
I'm going to half these and put them in a freezer bag
so that they can freeze.
I'm gonna cut some veggies.
We got a lot to do.
Okay, well, the chicken is de-thawing,
and waiting for the rice to cook,
I'm going to eat a quick lunch.
It's really random, some cottage cheese and pineapple
with this like noodle, carrot, chicken stir fry thing.
Speaking of picky eating, like I said earlier,
I used to hate cottage cheese.
Not that I'd ever tried it.
I just grew up thinking it looked weird.
And then I think like three months ago,
I tried it for the first time with some fruit.
I was like, this is pretty good.
So it's become one of my favorites actually.
Has there ever been a food that you grew up not liking,
but that you like now?
Let me know.
Okay, next is veggie chopping time.
And I'm gonna start cooking my dinner tonight.
We're gonna cut the cucumber first and put it in the fridge.
That way I don't mix my cucumber and zucchini up,
even though it wouldn't be a big deal, I guess,
if I cooked cucumber,
but it does sound gross to eat raw zucchini.
Chopped up the cucumber and halved it
so that it's easier to eat in salads.
So that will go in the fridge for this week.
And now I think I need to marinate the chicken
for a little bit.
So we're gonna chop that up and get cooking.
I have my chicken sitting in some oil and salt and pepper.
I have some tomatoes in this bucket
that I'm going to cut the zucchini and add to this.
And then also the olive oil and stuff in that.
We're gonna roast some veggies.
Okay, here is my dish.
The zucchini is already baked for five minutes,
so I flipped it.
Here's to hoping I don't get salmonella by cooking raw chicken
on top of veggies, but I looked it up
and it said it was okay.
So we're gonna cook till the chicken is done.
I have water boiling for my quinoa.
It said to make a whole cup,
but that looks like a lot of quinoa,
especially because it usually expands after you cook it.
So that might be way too much, but we will find out.
So I've never cooked quinoa before,
so I have no idea how to tell when it's done,
but it stopped bubbling.
The water is gone.
So, and it feels soft.
There is literally no seasoning in it though,
so I'm gonna season it.
I think that was successful.
And I've just flipped the chicken.
Really hoping I don't get salmonella from that
because that would not be great.
But while that is cooking,
let me show you my desk organizer.
There's like a hair on my phone.
So it does look cluttered,
but I actually like it a lot more
to just have this whole stretch of desk
that's all cleared off.
So I have my supplements and allergy stuff,
Rubik's cube and fan,
some notebooks and envelopes in there.
So it'll be kind of like,
I guess I can put my chapstick in here.
Stuff I don't want like rolling away.
Here are just like index cards and stuff.
So my lamp is like on my laptop charger,
but I think overall it looks much more organized.
Okay, my chicken is all done.
I mixed my rice and my quinoa.
So now I'm gonna season it with some soy sauce
and salt and pepper,
and then we'll put it all together.
Okay, I'm eating my dinner.
I'm gonna have to use a lot of rice the next few days
to be able to get through all of it before it goes bad,
but it was a ton of fun cooking.
I've always enjoyed cooking.
I remember when I was little
and I would pretend that I was being filmed
like on Food Network and I'd like make box brownies
and pretend I was talking to a camera.
So I was a YouTuber before YouTubers even existed,
but I have enjoyed cooking to this day.
It's relaxing.
It's fun to know that you're eating healthy.
So this is my, what was I going?
I don't know where I was going with that sentence.
Chicken and carbs or like rice or pasta
or whatever I put it on,
that's kind of my favorite thing to cook.
