How to sew fitted sheets (sheets with an elastic band). In this tutorial I will show you the way to calculate, cut out and sew your own elastic bands sheet using your old or new plain flat sheet or any other fabric. Come watch and I'll show you the way to make a fitted crib or toddler sheet.
Hello everyone! I'm Katerina Vetrova. I'm sure everyone agree that fitted sheet looks better
and is more convenient to use in comparison with the plain bed sheet. Today I want to show you how
to sew a fitted sheet using a plain bed sheet that you already have. I will use one got as present.
You can also use a piece of fabric as well. I will show you how to calculate the exact dimensions
of the sheet and how to use your fabric as much as possible. First of all you must prepare
your fabric for a sheet. So my final piece of fabric is 254 per 246 centimeters.
My mattress has a non-standard dimensions 175 per 215 centimeters. This square shows a piece
that will be cut out for the corner of the sheet. To calculate the length of this square sides we
should take full length of this fabric 254 minus the length of the mattress 215 and divide it by
2. We get 19 per 5. This is the side of our square. If we do the same with the width of the fabric 246
minus 175 divided by 2 we get 35 and a half. It means we have an extra fabric left on the right
side of our piece of fabric. How much is that piece 246 minus 175 minus 19 and a half and minus 19
and a half and we got 32. So you can cut 32 centimeters from the right side and then sew.
But I went further. 19 and a half vertical part height is too little for my mattress.
So I decided to cut the part of the extra fabric from one side and sew it together with the other
side to extend its length. This part will in any way be invisible because I will face it to the
wall. To calculate how much I can cut in this case I take my 32 centimeters minus 2 for seam
allowance and divide it by 2 and I get 15 centimeters. So I can cut 15 centimeters from
the right side and sew it to the upper side. Using my new fabric dimensions I can calculate
new corner height. 19 and a half what we had plus the half of 15 centimeters what we added.
And we get 27 centimeters the corner height instead of 19 and a half. Now let's cut the
corners of our fabric. I will cut 26 by 26 square from every corner of our fabric.
Then take the fabric right sides together. Match the edges and sew them together with
one centimeter seam allowance. This is what we got. Then mark the places where the rubber band
will be sewn on. Fold the edges over twice and sew them between the marks we made.
Then cut the rubber band for all four corners. Pin the end of the rubber band to the mark on
one side and sew it there. Now pull the elastic through the rolled edge and sew it to the mark
on the other side. And do the same thing for the other corners. Now you can finish hemming
the edges of the sheet. And that's it! See how it looks on the mattress. I hope you liked the
video. Like it if you liked. Sorry for my English, I know it's not perfect. I hope you visit my
