ATTENTION: In many areas, it is a code violation to put your power cord in your wall as I did in this video. Putting Audio/Video cords in your wall is fine but, for power, adding an extra outlet may be required by code so check out my video on how to do that! to make the whole process easier and cleaner? Hi there, I'm Nils and I'm excited that we just installed this new TV wall mount for
our TV to make it look really nice, but what I don't like is all these ugly cords hanging
down.
So I'm going to show you how with about $10 you can take care of that, getting rid of
all the wires here and making a mounted TV seemingly float on the wall and have all the
connections underneath.
Let's go ahead and get started.
So here are the tools that we're going to need to go ahead and get started.
We're just going to use a tape measure, a stud finder, now this is optional but it will
make life easier.
Some sort of a blade to go ahead and cut through the drywall and then this is the secret here.
We've got these CE Tech low voltage resets cable plates.
Now these guys are actually about $4.95 a piece at Home Depot or Lowe's and it's just
an open outlet type of situation where we can feed wires in through the box.
They can come down through the wall and then we receive them on another end.
So we need a pair of these.
And then if you want to make life easier you can also use a drywall saw and a drill to
get things started.
So those are optional but those are nice to have if you want to.
Okay, the first thing we're going to want to do is to pull this TV back and give ourselves
some space.
If you have a TV that has an arm that allows you to move it around, you can go ahead and
just move it out of the way.
If not then you may want to remove the TV from the wall to give yourself some space
to work.
Ideally we're going to be placing this plate in an area where it's concealed by the TV
so you can't see it at all.
That's the whole idea is just to kind of hide everything.
So I know that based on where this TV is typically going to be, then I'm going to want to put
it right about here or somewhere in this area back here so that the power cord and all the
other cords can go right back there and down into it.
So I'm going to move this out of the way.
In fact, I'll just mark that general area and say we want to put it right back here
somewhere.
Okay.
Move that TV out.
So this is about the area where we want to put it but we want to check for studs.
We don't want to be dealing with studs in this case.
We just want the drywall itself.
So we'll use the stud finder here to take a look.
Okay.
Should find one right over here.
It does.
Good.
It's not finding one in here.
It does find some sort of power here though I find that this stud finder tends to think
everything's lit up so I think we're okay.
But in this section over here, I think we're going to be all right.
So let's go ahead and put it right about where we wanted it and we'll take a look.
Now a couple of ways to do this, again, you can use a blade like utility knife to go ahead
and cut a square in here.
You can use a drywall saw if you have one and then there is also a little template that
comes with the plates here that we can use.
So we'll go ahead and use this template.
We'll trace it out and that'll be our hole.
So there's our square and we'll go ahead and start to cut in this.
I'm just going to go ahead and use the utility knife for this.
Okay.
So we're going to go ahead and cut in and we'll just start by scoring our lines here.
All right.
Once we've got that, we should be able to pop this piece up.
There we go.
And just because I don't like having stuff floating around in the walls, I'm going to
try to grab that piece.
There we go.
Now this next part should be pretty simple.
We're going to take this guy here and the way this works, these little flaps extend
out and as you tighten the screw down, it's going to pull the flaps in and snug up against
the wall and hold the thing in place.
So when your flaps in on both sides, there we go.
Okay.
And then it goes like that and then we just need to tighten this thing down and when you
start to get some resistance there, then you know it's just check it and make sure it's
snug.
Okay.
It looks good there.
And again, we're making sure that the opening is going downward to connect with our receiving
end, which will be pointing upward.
So there's one part of it.
Okay.
So I've gone ahead and now cut out the bottom plate where I'm going to receive the wires
and I went ahead and fed the wires through the top and I'm just going to pull them out.
Okay.
So then I'm going to feed all of these through receptacle, put that in, make sure my little
flappers are in there.
Okay.
All right.
So now that's in there pretty snug.
I've got my wires out.
I'm ready to hook them up and then we'll see how this thing looks.
Okay.
Check it out.
So now we've got our TV all set up, wall mount in place, and no wires to be seen for about
$10 of work.
