Hey everybody, welcome back! It's been a little while but I've been dealing with some really
sick kids and a lot of snow days. So today we're going to do something for little ones.
My son's just turned five and he's obsessed with ninja turtles so I'm going to make him
a set of ninja turtles that might be easy for you to make with your kids. So I'm starting with just
some little flatter stones. They're not too flat but they're not round. So they sit kind of flat
and I'm covering them with green paint. Just a dark green paint is fine. The kind I used is,
I believe, holly green. Now you can't really see the mask that I'm drawing on here with the pencil
so bear with me. Wait till I use the paint. You'll be able to see it a lot better. But basically I'm
just going to do the same thing to each and every rock until it looks just like the one that I showed
you that's already completed. Now I am going to be careful that I make sure to name them properly.
This orange one is Michelangelo or Mikey and I'm doing all pretty much the same style of mouth on
them. Although you can switch it up and do different types of mouths and some with teeth,
some with no teeth. I believe Donatello has a missing tooth but I'm not doing any teeth on
mine today. Now I kind of do this in a bit of a backward step. I cover the whole rock in green
and then I go over it with multiple coats of the orange or the black just so that I don't see any
green through it. You do it however you feel comfortable. I will be adding white in here where
you see these eye holes so I will need a couple coats of white. Also I do find orange is really
hard to find that you don't need to do multiple multiple coats with it. For some reason you can
see right through the orange no matter what brand I buy so I always end up doing lots of coats
either way. Now once I've got a couple of coats for the mask color we need a blue one, purple one,
orange one, and a red one. So if I'm skipping through this those are the colors that you will
need is blue, purple, orange, and red. Now I'm using a sponge to sponge in the eye parts. I find that if
you're having to do more than one coat it's nice to use a sponge because then you don't have any
brush lines and it tends to cover a little bit better if you use a sponge. It's kind of like
doing makeup. It does cover a lot better using a sponge. So I've got the basic areas where I want
the eyes to be and I'm just going over my orange again because I could still see through it.
You might find the same issue with any of your orange paints as well. If you want to do it
differently from me and paint the mask and the eyes on first and then cover up with the green
that's also a good idea but I'm just doing it my silly way. Now I'm going to outline the eyes
with black. Now the lining brush that I'm using is one of my DIY do-it-yourself fine lining brushes.
If you click on the description in all of my tutorials I do leave a bunch of links in there.
A lot of people have been asking me, I don't see the paint colors listed, I don't see the lining
brush tutorial but they are all in the description of the video I promise. So make sure you take a
look in the description. Now I am just outlining the whole mask as well as the eye holes so that
that mask stands out a bit more on the green. Now the one I'm working on right now is Donatello.
He's the purple one. Raphael is the red one. Make sure we get these right when we make them for our
little ones because they will make sure that we are correct, that we know what we're talking about.
The blue one is Leo or Leonardo. My son's favorite one is Raphael, the red one. So I made that one
first. That's the shiny one I showed you in the in the beginning. Now we will be making them shiny
as well at the very end. I will be adding my resin tutorial to the description of this because you
will see at the end of this video that they're super shiny and bright and beautiful and that is
all thanks to the resin. You don't see any brush marks, you don't see any cracks or any
boo-boos. It just smooths it right out and it looks beautiful. I will show you at the end of
the video. So make sure you take a look at my tutorial on resin because I have a lot of helpful
tips. I have two resin tutorials. One for resining your rocks and the other one for fixing the
bottoms once you've resined. So some people have some issues with that. I still do as well.
So I'm just making sure that I outline my eyes. I make sure that everything's outlined properly.
Now with the backs it's up to you what you want to do with them. I'm literally stopping the right
there at the side. I'm stopping the bandana and I'm going to do the whole back green. Because of
the resin I have a hard time having nice looking backs on my rocks. So I'm going to avoid trying
to have to repaint the whole back again and I'm just going to cover it green. So as you can see
with these ones afterwards I will show you how the backs look once we're finished. Now once you
have all of the bandanas outlined, all of the eyes outlined and filled in with white, now you just do
like a little half circle of black paint because we're going to do the pupil. And it might look
really weird as we're doing it but once it's done I promise it's going to look like a cute little
happy ninja turtle. Now I wanted my son to sing the song for me but he's in bed so he's not going
to sing it unfortunately but he has an amazing rendition of the ninja turtle theme song. And here
they're going to dance a little for you. Aren't they cute? So far they don't even have a mouth
and they're cute. They're starting to look like little ninja turtles. Now these ones of course
are not the muscular mean looking turtles. These are the cute little ones for for your youngsters
and easy for them to learn how to paint as well. So I wanted to make something that we could do
with our kids since we just had family day here in Canada. And I don't know about you but my little
one is obsessed with the turtles and the turtles were mentioned in his report card and he really
loves them. So he's really happy that I'm doing this tutorial. Now once you have the outline of
the eyes and everything done the pupils all filled in let them dry and we'll move on to the mouth.
And here I've just done a simple smile with a little looks like a little bum a little bear
bum sitting there but it's actually going to turn into his tongue. We're going to paint that red
but I'm just doing the same kind of mouth. You can switch it up change this like the smile you
can have it so that it's smiling just out of one side of his mouth. You could put the tongue a
different direction. I think I do that with a couple of these so you just make a little bum.
See it looks like a cute little baby bum there and I'm not trying to be gross so please don't
don't come for me. Now I am going to make sure that I put my lining brush in the description
all of my paint colors in the description the resin that I use and where I get it as well as
my tutorial for that. And give it a try send me some pictures on Rachel's Rocks on Facebook.
I want to see what you've done. I want to see what your kids have done.
So now I'm getting out my Christmas red paint and we're going to fill in that cute little baby bum
in red paint and it's just going to turn into a turtle mouth before your eyes. So it's going to
be super cute and trust me if my five-year-old is proud of these and happy and really excited
for them to be dry so that he can start playing with them your kids will love them too. So or
anyone who likes ninja turtles it's a nice little gift. Now if you have to keep going over the line
with black just fix it. You can easily go back and fix everything as long as you wait for your
paint to dry. And I like to use a hairdryer on a cool setting on a low setting and dry my layers
in between to make sure they're dry. It makes my life a lot easier because I get impatient. I don't
like to wait for my paint to dry. So now once you have all your little tongues painted red we're
going to fill in the rest of the mouth with black. I'm sorry that you can't really see what I'm doing
here but I will show you after I promise. And it doesn't matter what color blue or orange or purple
you use whatever you feel comfortable with. You don't have to be picky but I will list the colors
in the description for you. See how much it changes once you add that black in the mouth?
Like look at this little one here in the blue. I believe that's Leonardo. My son Jackson is going
to get mad at me if I don't get the names right. So yes that's Leonardo. Once you get the the mouth
filled in it just brings it right to life. And we're actually going to bring it to life even more
using this white paint. And I'm going to use the end of a paintbrush because there's a bigger end
on it. And I'm just going to put a white dot at the very top of his pupil and that brings him to
life even more. So you'll see here I already have the red one done. Raphael. So you can see the
dots up there but once we add that little dot it just gives it a cute little reflection on his
pupil and and makes them look a little more alive. I just want to say thank you all for subscribing.
Welcome to my channel. For those of you who are new I will be having a contest as soon as I hit
20,000 and I will be painting for somebody. So if you want to join that contest make sure
you join Rachel's Rocks on Facebook as well so you don't miss out on any contest information.
So here they are. They're all done. We're going to let them dry properly before we resin them.
I'm not going to show you the process in which I resin but the tutorial will help you greatly.
So as you can see I just paint the black the backs of them green. It makes my life a lot easier
and you can put like you can do the tie up of the bandana at the back if you want to
if you want to be brave. But for me I don't want to mess up the backs of my rocks so
I leave them like this and my son's happy with that as well. So I'm going to resin them and
magically you're going to see what they look like all resined. Look at that. They are beautiful
and I promise your kids are going to love them. It's a fun thing to make together
and they're so worth it in the end. They're just gorgeous. So I hope you've had fun. I love you
all. Thanks for sticking by me and being patient while I get some more tutorials out. I love you
all. Make sure you check the description for any information about this tutorial.
Have an awesome time guys. Keep painting.
