Hello and welcome, my name is Elizabeth and in this video we're going to be doing
some early fall decorating and transitioning out of summer decor to cozy up my living room
and dining room for the autumn season, which is my favorite. So let's get started.
So for this first phase of fall decorating, I decided to leave out the pumpkins but I
definitely wanted to add in some more fall foliage and replace that with a lot of the
summer foliage that I had in the house. So I went up to the attic and I grabbed my fall foliage
storage bag here that I have labeled with a chalk marker. I will link these bags below because I
absolutely love them. They work fantastic and they are so much easier to tote up and down three
stories versus a big bulky heavy bin. I did get them off of Amazon so you should be able to
shop for them quite easily using the link below. All right and here are the fall stems that I
currently have. I think all of this was from Hobby Lobby last year. These were really popular last
year. They're super pretty. I had these on my fireplace last year so I don't think I'm going
to use them there again. I actually might just keep my fireplace the way that it is currently
and figure out where else to use these but the colors are beautiful and some fun bright leaves
here and then just some nice wheat. I also kind of shopped around my house and pulled out some
things that I thought would look nice for fall. As you can see a lot of amber glass. Those three
amber jars I had just found at a yard sale I think the weekend before. I may have a video coming out
of that little shopping excursion. We got quite a lot of good things and also the painting there
or the print with the windmill. That was also a recent find at my local antique store. In this
glass jar I had placed some hydrangeas that I had dried from some clippings that I took off of one
of our plants and so I thought the wheat would look really pretty in here to give it a little bit of
wispiness and some height. So that's where I'm using these wheat stems that I found at Hobby Lobby
last year. They may still have them and if not these exact same ones. I have seen very similar
ones there recently. And on this little thrifted shelf that we have across from our fireplace
above the TV I decided that this would be a good spot for those magnolia leaves to go this year
since they are so beautiful. I definitely wanted them to have a focal point in the living room and
by the way you can still get these at Hobby Lobby. They were very popular last year and I think they
still are this year. They're just so beautiful and full and very large. They make a great statement.
But you'll see that I place this little windmill print up here and I do end up changing that.
It looks very different now. I tend to kind of tinker with things for the next few days after
I do a big redecorate like this. But that's why you should be following me over on Instagram
at Old Maple Home if you want to see daily things behind the scenes of what I'm doing around my
old 1800s home with my decor and thrifting and flea market shopping and all that
and DIYs as well. I share it all over there almost every single day. So I hope that you
can find me and give me a follow. I would love to connect with you there.
And this little cabinet is right next to my fireplace. I have just recently brought it out
to the living room. It was in my laundry room so I'm enjoying having an extra surface to decorate.
But I decided to keep this simple and just use some vintage books in some warm colors.
And of course I put my newly thrifted pheasant up here. I think he is just perfect for fall.
And that's just how simple it turned out. I ended up taking the candlestick off and just
leaving the other elements there like I said just to keep it more simple but to bring in those
fall colors. And now it's time for one of my favorite things to decorate and that is this
antique hutch. I absolutely love how it turned out this year. Shelf styling was not my strong suit
not so long ago so I feel like I've come a long way on learning how to layer and style
little vignettes within a smaller space like this. So I will just turn some music on and let you guys
see how I layer up this beautiful old hutch with amber glasses and just lots of beautiful
fall decor items. The dining room had a lot of green in here and I wanted to move most of the
green decor out and replace it with richer warmer cranberry tones, burgundies, golds.
So let's get started by removing all of these beautiful green vintage books off of this
antique fireplace mantle. And by removing the green I also wanted to remove the green
mirror that I had in there and I decided to use this mirror that I've had for quite a long time.
I thrifted it, surprise surprise, and I never found a place for it. So I'm first going to use
some chalk paint and get rid of that kind of dated wood tone to it. It's not anything
special so it's okay to paint it, I promise, but I'm just using some Dixie Bell chalk paint
and I'm going to really quickly paint that up and then we'll do a little bit of wet distressing and
then we will pop it up on the mantle so that it's a little more neutral and like I said to kind of
remove most of the green out of the room so we can bring in all of those beautiful warm fall tones.
All right well that mirror is painted that only took maybe 5-10 minutes.
One coat and with the Dixie Bell paint it is totally covered. I used the color fluff by
Dixie Bell so that will definitely look a lot better I think up there than that
kind of cheap wood. I got this at Goodwill quite a long time ago. I think I just liked the columns
because I had just gotten this. So yeah so now it's going to go up there and I'm trying to just
kind of get rid of some of the green in here and bring in more colors for fall. This picture is
really inspiring me. I found this at a yard sale. I just need to find a frame for it but yeah I love
the colors in this so I kind of want to bring these colors out into the dining room. Next I
am working on this antique buffet that's also in the dining room and I'm clearing it off
of all of the moss balls and everything that's just screams summer that's on it right now
so that we can simplify it and just make it elegant and beautiful for fall.
I love these candelabras. I think they're so beautiful. I found them probably a year or so
ago and I've always struggled on styling them so I do end up eventually taking these away off of
the buffet not using them but I do keep the cloche up and if you stick around and subscribe today
you'll get to see my full home fall decor tour very soon here within the next week or so hopefully.
I definitely was struggling with styling the top of this china hutch in my dining room. I knew that
I really wanted to use that piece of art there but I was just having trouble getting it to all
kind of balance and then to be high enough that you could actually see it and that it made a
statement. I tend to like to really stack my things on top of my hutches as high up as I can get them
so I was just trying to add height but also make it look balanced and I think I like it now
finally how I have it. It's definitely a lot different than it has been for the last
six plus months with just the two baskets and the topiaries.
