How Expensive is Greece? (Santorini)

Greece is the cradle of Western civilization
and the birthplace of democracy,
theater, and the Olympic games.
The country is made up of more than 6,000 islands
that are covered in ancient beauty,
blessed by turquoise waters,
beautified by its friendly people,
and topped off with incredible food.
The last time I came here,
I had just finished my study abroad program in Prague
and I spent my 21st birthday drinking and partying
on the beaches in Mykonos.
But this time around,
I'm lucky enough to take Diana
on a very special romantic getaway.
After visiting the capital of Athens,
we headed to the stunning and touristy island of Santorini.
Due to the fact that Greece has more tourists per year
than its actual population,
then when you mix in COVID and inflation
and a recession 12 years ago,
I can tell you that the prices are not cheap.
Try $15 beers, $70 shishos,
and you don't wanna know
how much a nice dinner will cost you.
Get ready as I take you deep inside Greece
to see exactly how much money I spent
by doing normal tourist activities.
Let's go.
This is honeymoon number one.
Ados.
Unlimited.
Hey, bro.
Hello.
How are you?
Hello.
How are you?
Our hotel sent the driver to pick us up
and we are on our way.
It's so cool how all the buildings are blue and white.
All right.
50 euros for a 15-minute drive.
Oh, wow.
Whoa.
We have all of this?
Oh, my God.
Amazing.
This is huge.
We got a jacuzzi here.
Private jacuzzi.
It is absolutely amazing to be back here in Santorini.
And here we are in the southern part of Greece.
You can see the beautiful Aegean Sea
or the Mediterranean Sea.
And it is just as picture-perfect as any island can get.
There's a reason why it's so touristy.
Found a random restaurant here with a terrace.
All right, I got my iced coffee.
A Greek salad in Greece.
Could life get any better?
Fresh catch of the day.
Indiana got some shrimp.
Oh, my God, that looks so good.
Oh, my gosh.
That is so good.
What's it like to live in Santorini?
We live in paradise.
Yeah.
Do you like living here?
I don't like.
Why?
It's nice for one holiday for seven days
or two weeks, but more.
He's taping you.
No.
Don't worry.
He doesn't care.
Don't worry.
But it's nice here for the holiday.
Awea is on the western part of Santorini,
so the sunsets here are amazing.
If we go all the way straight, we'll find the sunset.
Fancy dinner coming up.
Panini and champagne.
It's so sexy.
Local.
200 bucks for that meal.
It was worth it.
We just sat down at this hookah bar slash trendy cafe
with music.
Look, it's pretty cool.
And the hookah was 70 euros.
I've never spent more than like 30 for a hookah
in my entire life.
This better be the best hookah I've ever had, seriously.
This is the 70 euro shisha?
It's a premium.
It's a premium, yeah.
It's a small premium.
This one is a big premium.
So this is 60 or 70 euros?
70.
Still only, sir.
It's the new season, and it's inside the filter.
Oh, okay.
Awesome, bro.
Sorry?
You're very expert in shisha,
working in the shisha industry.
Yeah, but it's last days and worth the hookah plate.
This is the best.
Thanks, man.
Perfect.
I love this guy.
Dude, that rips really good.
Sometimes they don't rip hard.
And it tastes good.
It's like so smooth.
Okay, maybe it's worth 70 euros.
It is a bright one out here.
It's already hot, and it's like 8.30.
But we got some views.
Came back to the same cafe for breakfast
because it's just too good.
This is what you call breakfast with a view.
How is it?
High quality food.
Walking through this old, ancient village, all white.
So incredibly beautiful.
This is the real Santorini.
Look in here.
Wow, look at this place.
Santorini is more than just the coastlines.
Traditional Greek fresh corn.
I wonder what makes it Greek.
Oh.
Oh, okay.
Oh, Santorini.
So, seven for two corn?
It's so good.
Anytime you have a chance to get fresh corn,
get fresh corn.
Deanna's almost done.
Meanwhile, look at that.
That corn was fantastic.
Now we are heading to get a massage
that Deanna booked.
Thank you, Deanna.
Oh my God.
That was like amazing service.
That was the hardest pressure I've ever had.
Now we're gonna head to a boat ride,
get a little cruise, island hopping, and sunset.
If we can make it up this hill.
We have taken off on the beautiful Aegean Sea.
Look at this.
Oh yeah.
So there was an option to rent out a whole boat
for like a thousand euros or something,
which is absurd.
So we opted to share a catamaran with 15 Europeans,
but they have like food and stuff on here.
So for 150 euros, I think it's better,
but insane how expensive it is to rent your own boat.
We made it to a spot with these beautiful black cliffs
you can see behind me.
Morning.
Oh, it's a hot one again in Santorini.
I gotta lock the door.
Oops.
Have another half day of exploration
before we're heading back to the airport.
Fly back to Prague.
These blue dome churches never get old.
Look at that.
Oh, just so beautiful.
And that's why Santorini is famous.
Not because of the nature, because of these.
Nobody's here.
You just want to sit here, babe?
I'll have sunny side up eggs with bacon and sausage.
Number seven.
I'll get a Benedict eggs.
Number six.
And then also orange juice and espresso.
One thing you'll notice about Europe
is that they don't give free water.
So this water is probably $8.
It's insane.
Really tasty.
It's good, right?
Okay, we are heading out of this part of Santorini.
Gonna get a driver to take us around the island
and then to the airport.
What's your name, bro?
My name is Tasos.
Tasos.
Yes.
Our prehistoric city here, it's 5,000 to 7,000 years old.
The first buildings, they started to build
in the 5th millennium BC.
Here are coming the interesting part.
Civilization is 5th millennium BC.
The Akrotiri city, it's 5th millennium BC.
Mesopotamians wasn't a colony.
It was a colony of the Minoan civilization.
Started actually as a colony.
Continues as a multicultural colony.
Look at this view.
Amazing.
We're on top of Santorini, about 500 meters high.
You can see the entire island in front.
We're in the monastery up here on top of Santorini.
What Tasos just told me is that on a clear day,
you can see Crete and it goes from about there
all the way until there, until there.
It's a huge, huge island where his mother's from.
It's the same Greek language they speak there or different?
They speak the same Greek language,
but it's a bit closer to the ancient dialect.
What does it mean to you to be Greek?
I don't know.
I will say that it's a huge honor to born
and die as a Greek.
The in between is the worst.
Can you pronounce the Greek of this sign?
How do you say it?
Kalos ilfate sto magalochori.
All right, we are stopping at a little bakery for lunch here.
A local spot, got a chocolate cake.
I got a sunflower seed bread.
Oh, you did?
Is it good?
Over our last three days in Santorini,
we got two one-way flights, an airport pickup,
two nights at a great hotel, lunch with a view,
a super fancy dinner, one shisha, a breakfast, two corns,
a couple's massage, a four-hour sunset boat ride,
another breakfast, a private tour guide,
and a local spot for lunch for $2,395.
Well, as you can see, Santorini is certainly not cheap,
but it's absolutely worth it.
If you're planning to come to Greece, still check it out.
I know you guys are gonna have a great time.
Thanks for watching this video and I'll see you next time.
Peace.
