Number 7, SM Mega Mall, 3.6 million square feet.
Opened in 1991, SM Mega Mall, located in Mandaluyong in metropolitan Manila,
is the second largest mall in the Philippines.
It is situated over 25 acres of land and accommodates more than 1,000 stores, including retail outlets and restaurants.
The mall attracts daily foot traffic of 800,000 people, with a maximum capacity of 4 million people.
The mall has two main buildings.
Building A features cinemas, a bowling alley, food courts, and the toy kingdom.
Building B features the retail shops.
The bridgeway connecting the two main buildings of the mall contains several eateries.
Next is number 6, West Edmonton Mall, 3.77 million square feet.
Between 1981 and 2004, the West Edmonton Mall, located in Alberta, Canada, was the largest globally.
But after strings of new malls were opened in Asia, it slipped a few slots down.
Nevertheless, it is still the largest mall in South, Central, and North America, with an area of 3.77 million square feet.
Besides 800 stores and services, this mall includes the largest indoor amusement park globally,
the largest indoor water park in the world, Ice Palace.
Other attractions include an 18-hole miniature golf course, a movie theater, and a bowling alley.
Number 5, Dubai Mall, 3.77 million square feet.
The Dubai Mall is part of the Burj Khalifa complex, the tallest man-made structure ever built.
At over 12 million square feet, equivalent in size to more than 50 soccer fields,
the Dubai Mall is the largest shopping mall globally, based on the total area,
but about the same size as the West Edmonton Mall if based on leasable space.
Located in Dubai, UAE, this mall costs $20 billion, and it has 1,200 retail shops.
Dubai Mall was visited most in 2011, drawing over 54 million people every year.
Petalthorpe constructed the underwater zoo and Dubai Aquarium, also supervised by Amar Entertainment.
Dubai Mall has an aquarium containing more than 300 kinds of marine species, including beams and sharks.
On our fourth spot is SM Mall of Asia, 4.2 million square feet.
The SM Mall of Asia in Metro Manila, the Philippines, opened in 2006,
consists of four buildings interconnected by walkways.
It features a 20-seater tram that takes shoppers around the mall grounds.
One of the mall's main attractions is an IMAX theater with one of the world's biggest 3D screens.

It can accommodate both recreational and competitive figure skating, as well as ice hockey.

The entire complex is located over an area of close to 70 hectares.
Down to number three, Central World, 4.62 million square feet.
Central World is the largest lifestyle shopping complex in Southeast Asia.
Often considered the shopping hubs of Asia,
Central World offers an unrivaled mix and range of products and services
at prices that put the fun back into shopping for Thai customers as well as international tourists.
One of the largest shopping complexes in the region,
the Central World Mall includes 500 stores, 100 restaurants and cafes, and 15 cinemas.
Not to mention, it also has a kid's zone, a learning center, and two department stores.
It also has its ice rink, like a few others on this list.
Also, Central World is a popular world-class hangout destination in the heart of Bangkok for urbanists.
Number two, Golden Resources Mall, 6 million square feet.
Another supermall in China is what many call the Great Mall of China.
The Golden Resources shopping mall has a total leasable area of 6 million square feet
and houses more than 1,000 stalls.
It's not as much of a sprawling structure as the rest of those on the list
because this one is a six-story building surrounded by new apartment buildings and offices.
Still, it has more than 230 escalators to accommodate the bustle of shoppers moving from floor to floor.
It was initially estimated that the Golden Resources Mall would attract a huge crowd daily.
However, due to its suburban locality and excessively high cost of goods,
the number of visitors was far too low, especially in the first few years.
Topping today's list at number one is the New South China Mall, 6.46 million square feet.
New South China Mall in Dongguan, China is the largest mall in the world based on gross leasable area.
The mall features seven zones modeled on international cities,
including a replica of the Arc de Triomphe and a gondoless canal.
It also has an indoor-outdoor roller coaster.
For more than a decade after its inauguration, the mall failed to attract tenants,
and as a result, it remained practically empty.
Due to the extremely low occupancy, it earned itself a nickname of the Dead Mall.
But things started to change after a series of renovations and revamping.
Most of the rental spaces are now occupied, and there has been a surge in daily visitors.
The developer of this mall, who later became a tycoon in the instant noodles industry, was Hu Guirong.
The South China Mall surpassed the Golden Resources Mall as the largest shopping center in the world.
The total development expenses were estimated at approximately $1.3 billion.
