Hey, what's good, professional shooting coach Collin Castell here, and today I'm going to
give you three simple hacks to increase your shooting range immediately.
Enjoy this one.
This is A-plus.
So a lot of players don't know that they can very easily increase their shooting range
with just kind of making one small tweak.
So today what I'm going to do is I'm going to run you through a few of those that are
going to help you instantly increase your shooting range, so if you do all three, imagine
how much farther you can shoot.
So the very first one I like to think about is what I call pop the toes, which basically
just means that when you're trying to shoot, you want to keep your heels off the ground
and have your power come from the balls of your feet or from your toes, as I like to
call it.
Now the major key here is that we want to pop the ground with our toes to generate that
springboard momentum.
So a massive mistake that a lot of players make is when they're getting ready to shoot,
they plant their heel and then plant their heel into the ground and that heel plant sucks
all of their energy and power out of their body into the floor and they've got to re-maximize
it, right?
So for us, what we're looking to do is we're going to pop our toes almost like we're jumping
off of a diving board and trying to, you know, hit that ground like it's hot lava to spring
in our jump shot as fast as we possibly can.
So the next piece that can dramatically help your shooting range is a quick dip.
Basically it means as you're getting ready to shoot the ball, you want to dip it down
first before you come back up.
Now a lot of coaches will tell you you shouldn't dip, your shot's going to be slower, it's
not going to work, right?
But that's not actually accurate.
If you watch the best shooters on the planet, Steph Curry, Kevin Durant, even Klay Thompson
most of the time, they all dip the ball because number one, it generates momentum and number
two, it generates power.
Power equals range, right?
Now the big key here is that it needs to be a quick dip.
If I do a slow load into my dip, that is going to be slower and it's going to give the defender
time to get there.
So what I want to think about is if I'm catching the ball, I want to smash the ball down and
fire it back up as quick as I can because that down momentum is going to start my energy,
the up momentum is going to bring it through to my jump shot.
So you can dip, but just make sure it's nice and quick.
Alright, so the next key that's going to dramatically increase your shooting range is to have a
one motion shot.
Basically it means you're going to maximize the power from the start of your shot all
the way through to the end of your shot.
Now a lot of times when players shoot, they have what we call a two motion shot.
Meaning that the ball goes up while their hips go down, right?
So they start to load their legs and at the same time their ball comes up, they set it
on a shelf here and it's got to pause there for a second while their legs fire and then
it comes up through.
And because it stops the motion, it limits the power.
So if you watch the best shooters on the world, when they shoot, their ball and their hips
move together.
So ball moves down, hips move down.
Ball moves up, hips move up.
And by doing that, if we get the ball and the hips to move simultaneously, it's going
to keep the power flowing and it's going to keep the power moving towards the basket for
ultimate range.
