Luka Dončić (37 points, 11 rebounds, 13 assists) recorded a triple-double to propel the Lakers to 142-111 victory tonight in Washington. Malaki Branham finished with a team-high 17 points along with 4 three pointers in the losing effort. The Lakers improve their record to 29-18 with the win, while the Wizards fall to 12-35 for the season.
It's time to get a crack in between the Wizards and the
Lakers. First of two meetings, Washington coming off the wind
last night as we celebrate John Wall. Tonight, we'll see LeBron
James, his potential to be one of the final couple of times we
see him here in the district. LeBron James has played over
60,000 minutes in his all-worldly 23 years in the
NBA. Tonight's officials Mark Davis, Crew Chief, 28th season,
Natalie Sago in her eighth, and Beniam Maru, his first season as
an umpire. The Lakers are on their Grammy road swing. They're
in New York after tonight's game. It's going to be a jump
that up again between DeAndre Aydin and Alex Saar. That's
going to be an interesting matchup to look out for. Lakers
win the opening tip. We're underway. Take a look at the
Wizards' starting lineup. They're going to go at Bilal
Kulibaly. Bob Carrington back at the starting lineup with
Chris Middleton out on the second night of a back-to-back.
Justin Champinney, Alex Saar, Sean George, Aydin scores the
first bucket of the night. And you're going to have to deal
with... Chance opportunity here for the Lakers with ten on the
shot clock. Dantich, number one in the league in first quarter
scoring. He gets 12. And Alex Saar comes up with it. George,
Champinney, corner three. Got you. Nice. Right there with
Justice. Keyshawn guarding LeBron James. James getting
downhill. Blocked by George. Keyshawn's 34th block of the
season leads to a three for the Wizards. You hear the energy
already early on. Great shot in transition. Follow AJ is good
by Dantich. Bilal Kulibaly is going to have the assignment of
trying to take him off his spot. Bilal inside. Blocked by
Aydin. Lakers coming off a 129-99 loss in Cleveland. Aydin
on the business end of the feed. Carrington on a catch and
shoot. Rattles in that three. He has these scoring nights that
are in the high teens, maybe even the twenties. Alex Saar
putting him off his career high. 17 rebounds last night against
Yes, he is. He's doing it on both ends. He's talking about
the 17 rebounds last night. Luka relocated. I know Washington
knows that coming in. How do you try to turn his water off
because he's off to a hot start? Now four for four. Hey,
listen, he is on a tear. Lakers are on the run. They've got
numbers. James throwing it up. Aydin layup. Keith calls time. I
tell you what, with Aydin just running straight to the rim, he
will. At almost 34 games. That read wasn't easy, by the way.
Alex Saar saw a runway and took advantage of the slam. Bubba
in there trying to fight for it. Luka, the look ahead to
James. He's taking his time and scores over George as Saar
tried to come over. And former wizard Rui Hachimura in the game
for the Lakers. Saar trying to work on Hayes. Jumper is good.
That is his goal, too. I mean, tough to defend and tough to
execute with ball in hand. Alex already three of four from
the field. He's got six. Dojic up high. Under five to go here
in the first quarter. Dojic with the steal. Getting to the
middle of the floor. No look lob. Second time around to
Jackson Hayes. Alex with a mid-range jumper. Nothing but
net. Vincent in the corner three. No, Jared Vanderbilt
with the offensive rebound. Luka Dojic 11 points, five
assists. He has had a hand in. Well, give him three more points
now. Well, it's about time he forced Luke had that chance.
Hey, force him downhill to get in the paint. These threes are
hurting you right now. Fade away by Carrington is good.
Dojic has had a hand in 24 of the Lakers' 30. Passer and will
get you in rotation. Wizards now bringing that double. Lakers
swinging it around. Jackson. Wow. Do you see another night
due to East Bay between the legs? Hayes four for four. Eight
points in three minutes and a lot of dunks. Dojic probing his
way inside. A little head fake into the body and they're going
to call the foul. This Lakers team is currently three and two
on their eight-game road trip. Hayes kicking it out of the
corner. Hachiburakura. Told you they're the number one team in
the field goal percentage at 50%. Riley says, who cares?
Listen, Will Riley, a much improved three-point shooter
from October, November, December and to now. Wizards give up an
easy bucket there to Vanderbilt. Saw Ace and Amir. By the way,
Amir is getting tall. I said they got hands and feet. They
play soccer too now. Five seconds. James pocket pass.
Turns it over. Riley to beat the buzzer. Does he? Count the
bucket as Will Riley slams it home. James trying to post up
Watkins. Shot clock is winding down. That fall away signature
shot goes down by LeBron. You can't stop that. Win or lose and
I think Alex Starr is trying to emerge as another guy as well.
James, a wide open three. Smart trying to post up Cooper.
James trying to work on Champagney. That turnaround
fall away. Lakers leading by 19. Side pick and roll. Pull up
shot. No. Champagney cleans. James trying it again on
Champagney. This time kicks it out to Smart. Far and believe
Riley. They're going to double. Timmy in the corner. A bounce
pass inside to Aiden and score. With him being available due to
health or actively playing, but he needs to do a better job.
Luka finding the cutting Aiden. Got right down main. See right
now, Lakers are too comfortable. I mean, look at the passes
they're making. And Starr was trying to come over and help,
which allowed Aiden a free look at the rim. You see the Lakers
shooting 72% for the field. Well, you knew that was going to
come from the twos, but they're doing it from the threes as
well, Chris. Too easy. Way too many opportunities for Aiden
right here underneath, prompting Brian Keith to call time. They
had this back and the postgame reception there at Clyde's. I
mean, John spoke on the mic, signed autographs, took
pictures. I mean, just on a personal note, having nine
years of covering every step John Wall made either on the
court or off the court. It's great to see him back home
where he deserves. And listen, we were locker mates, so I saw
him appear. I mean, it was nice when John couldn't play, but
out of, you know, unlike other superstars, he was active.
Whether it's on one leg, one knee, he came to play and
compete at a higher level. He never quit. He came to play and
compete at a higher level. He never quit. And you know what?
The other thing and all the media people that cover John
will tell you this. He spoke after every game. He never
ducked his responsibility. What people don't know is LeBron
James has actually left hand. People don't know that he's a
windmill with that left hand right there. George's floater,
good. Every once in a while you see that. John's played 15
minutes so far. He's got 14 points, plus 12 out there on the
floor. This guy right here, Donchish, has put on a show off
glass. You gotta be kidding. Looks like in the first five
minutes and then get on the defensive end, as Carrington
lost it right into the hands of Saar. Alex Saar continues to
be efficient. You're gonna double pick your poison, but
Luka is too comfortable.
James throwing it up. Eight got behind the Wizards defense.
There's a double. Luka sprays it over to LaRavia. Drives the
baseline. James ahead of steam. Layup, no. LaRavia
cleans up. Aiden offensive rebound. Smart. James. And
Brian Keefe does not like how Washington. Create a whole
another identity, Chris. Happy birthday, Chris. Here's Luka.
A little fall away jumper is good. Carrington. Foul by
LaRavia off the window. Count it. Just letting you know what
type of company that Bub is in. Just before he could shoot the
leather off the ball. Strong contest. Better finish. LaRavia
swinging it over to Dostich. Luka with the left hand layup
is good. Oh, wow. Looking into the camera. Okay, he's cutting
up. Saar fading away. Champini with the offensive rebound and
misses that three. James, the look ahead, the smart. Luka
trails. Got Champini off his feet. Tags him with a three.
Aiden sets another screen for Dostich. Now got the switch.
Throwing it up to Aiden. The vision. Should be a pass or two.
I mean, that's the first step. Can you get off the ball even
though you got 30 points? Nice pass. Champini. Got him.
Slamming over LeBron James. And then Watkins coming up with a
steal. Wizards three on one. John Muir with the layup. No
foul call. Wizards with numbers. Will steps into a three off the
feed from Bub Carrington. JJ Redick calls time. I'm telling
you, Will. Riley, that shot is looking. When we look at the
Lakers, possibly arresting these guys and sending them out here
in this fourth quarter. Dostich hit the deck. That's a block by
Watkins. Carrington. Deflected by Gabe Vinson. Hachimura ahead
of the pack. Gets it off the glass. Gill gives it right back
to Will. Shoot it again. Inside feed to A.G. and he scores it.
Alexis Law. The vaults are amazing. Amazing. Unfortunately,
I had to see producer Rich Law, but you know. I said, Jake,
when was the last time you posted up your dad? Lucas
splitting two Wizards. Kicks it over to Hachimura with a shot
clock at eight. Much improved three-point shooter during this
time at Wizards to now. A.G. muscling his way inside. Don't
look now. Anthony Gill having himself a solid outing out here
for Washington. Nine points and six rebounds. Made all four of
his shots. Lakers turned it over. Keyshawn. Washington
coming off of that ten-point win last night in this building
against the Bucks. Controlled the game throughout. There's a
three. Off the mark on that one. Nice cut by Branham on
the reverse layup. 60 seconds to go here in the third. In
Phoenix, where he like just he fell and kind of the stick was
kind of reversed and he just tapped it in. Right now on a
12-3 run. And coming up with the steal. Riley. Inside layup.
What about here? George, Branham, Watkins, Gill, and Will
Riley. Here's Malakai Branham for three. Right now, crack the
rotation. LeBron James still out there. Lobs it up to eight
on the business. Competitive and all over the floor tonight.
Now, timing out to Drew Timmy. Look at Coach Keith. Don't ask
me why. OH? You like the Buckeyes? I don't know about
all of that. Okay. Vanderbilt. This Lakers team came in number
one in the NBA in field goal percentage. They are 18th in
three-pointers percentage. John Mayer was averaging 18 at
Florida State. Can I tell you something else though, Chris?
Yeah. You see Vanderbilt three clear. It's one thing. Is he
just working on just getting reps with the second unit guys?
No, look at that. He has 18.6 rebounds and excuse me, three
rebounds and six assists. This is more of a stack. First run
in Cleveland, you would think it would be a team in the
Central Division, right? So, you said Indiana, right? I said
Chicago at first. No, you didn't. I said Chicago. No, you
know what? I said Chicago second. I said. Are we ready
because who can zip this to this corner? James. Oh, don't
take the left hand again on Saar. Left leg, left hand. James
now with 20 points tonight. Straight on three rattles in.
Good for Will White. This time LeBron from three. Offensive
rebound. Eight over the outstretched arm. A little more
than five and a half to go here in regulation. Kulibaly gets
inside off the window. These one-on-one battles with other
opposing centers. They're creating separation because
they just get to the foul line more. Dave Vincent, Ronnie
James, the son of LeBron James has checked into the game.
Malachi, pure three. This is Jameer. This is H-E. Fighting
inside. Spreading it out to Cooper. Here's Branham, three.
The Champinis, the Will Rileys, Jameer Watkins, even Malachi
tonight is on the show. Here's Bronny all alone getting to the
rim and slams it home. Look at LeBron. Same thing that his
dad does. You know the only difference is every time we see
this at the YMCA. Yeah. Bronny with four points tonight.
Sharif on a drive and finish. This Lakers team will continue
their East Coast road trip. Heading to the garden is
Kanet. The Lakers, they had a good business tonight. They
knew their antennas were off. They knew that they were gonna
play against a tough young core. Now, we're gonna
compete. Goes for 28 and 13. LeBron James supplemented the
offense scoring 20. Go along with his six assists. It was the
Los Angeles Lakers winning tonight 142 to 111. Good. Looked
like you guys were having some fun down the stretch there. You
had Maxi Cleaver with a couple highlights. You had Bronny with
a big highlight after his dad dunked. You probably won't see
that too often. What were you enjoying the most as you watched
the other guys who don't get to play a ton at the end there?
It's always good when they get a chance to play. Everybody
play hard. You know, obviously, it's the end of the game, but
you know, those guys, they get built on that. So, props to
them. Well, part of the reason was because you guys played so
well early. You have the first half triple double. How did you
find that kind of rhythm so early tonight? Playing
basketball. I just play my game. Whatever the defense give
me. So, just trying to get back into the rhythm. Well, it was
all working, right? Some of it was in screen roll, getting
Aiden at the rim. Some of it was stepping back for your
jumpers, getting to the free throw line. As you're reading
the defense, Luka, just take us through that a little bit.
What signs are you seeing when you can manipulate it in
different ways as a scorer and a passer? Yeah, I mean, like I
said, you know, it's a little bit like chess to me. Just
trying to read the defense. You know, sometimes, they're in a
blitz to start a game. Then, they switch to fire. So, it's
just trying to read the defense, you know, share the
ball. I think we did a great job today. JJ and I were trying
to decide if you intentionally banked it in. I think we both
decided probably the one that you're right in front of the
bench. That was an intentional bank, right? Of course, it was
intentional. Just making sure. What did JJ say? Well, he said,
look, sometimes Luka can get a little bored when, you know,
just if the scoring is coming that easily. So, he thought
that you probably did bank it on purpose. Oh, yeah. I
definitely did. Figured. Alright, thank you, Luka.
Thank you.
