Oh, oh, oh, ----.
You've gone the wrong way.
Ah!
Are you stuck?
Oh, that made a really bad noise.
Hey, Ronnie there from Four-Wheeling Australia.
Welcome to Prado versus Hilux.
Now, Harry thinks that his shopping trolley is in for a chance for these challenges we've got coming up.
And he reckons his leaf-sprung billy cart can beat my coil-sprung luxury wagon.
I reckon he's got absolutely no chance.
We have some seriously good challenges coming up.
Especially the camp set-up challenge.
I reckon he's got absolutely no chance.
Now, he's going to wear his active wear, and I'm going to take him to the toughest beach probably in Australia.
He's probably going to break some fingernails.
Aren't you, Harry?
Mate, I'm ready for it.
I'm going to absolutely flog you, I reckon.
Ladies and gents, you decide who wins.
From the challenges, the pranks, and the technical aspect of the Prado versus the Hilux.
Who wins?
In the end, you decide.
I like the name you've got on your radio there, mate.
What's that, mate?
When was the last time you looked at the face of your GME screen?
F***ing asshole.
Can you read it out for the group?
Bill N.
I think it's an appropriate name.
Mine just says Brian.
Oh, man.
I'm going to get you back for that.
I'll give it to you.
Check this out.
So it's started already.
Yep.
I won't warn you about that staking.
Oh, this is Bell End.
Copy, Big 10-4 there.
Bell End, out.
Copy, Mr. End.
I don't want to stuff around, so we're going for the hardest beach that I know of in Australia.
We've been there before, in the 279s.
This time, we've got the Hilux and the Prado.
It'll be interesting to see how we go.
First proper beach drive on real soft stuff.
We're not going to stuff about here.
10 PSI.
Straight up.
We've just got to beat that Prado.
That's all that matters.
Beating the Prado.
9 PSI in the front, 11 PSI in the rear.
So they're looking pretty flat.
These have a bead grip technology in the rims, so hopefully it should stay on.
I've never really given it a good test.
Holy crap, you're definitely lower than me.
Yeah, way lower.
Is that 9?
That's 9 at the front, yeah.
Oh, okay.
What are you on?
Well, I think my tyres are hot, so I went 12 front, 11 back.
And I'm thinking that they'll...
Mine are cold.
I'll try this first.
See how we go.
I have an excuse now.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. There we go.
Excuses have started already.
Tax work.
Although Harry got first blood with the prank,
we are just getting started.
But we've got to get to the battleground first.
This is the way.
That was too easy.
That was stupidly easy.
I'm going to see if I can lift a wheel.
I tried, I went at a weird angle and stuff.
I don't know, it was very planted.
Too easy.
Very coil life.
Take it away, fuel consumption.
We've been checking each other's the whole way.
Both of our screens are slightly out because we've got larger tyres.
But accounting for the difference,
we've worked out that in most scenarios,
about 0.6, 0.7 litres per hundred between us,
with mine using a little bit less.
Mine using more.
And I don't really understand why.
I'm taller, wider, we weigh the same.
I should have more of a brickish, you know, impact into the air.
I don't know, maybe it's the...
I think it's the final drive.
Yeah, I mean, we don't know.
And look, I do have lights on the roof.
I think he's actually probably closer than that,
but because of what I've done to the car.
Yeah.
Yeah, I completely agree with that.
But what I don't understand is,
why do Prados have 150 litres of fuel capacity
when you guys are just going to Woolies and back most of the time?
Well, you just fill up every six months.
It's awfully inconvenient.
You have to hang out with the peasants and the servo.
Pull up where my car is now.
I just want to show you something here.
What's going on, mate?
Are you just going to try and convince me
that leaves are better or something, are you?
No.
I'm actually just informing you
that right where your vehicle's parked,
just facing the other way though,
90 degree the other way,
there was a Prado here.
That's not ideal.
So I'm a bit concerned you might not be able
to drop the kids off at soccer practice this afternoon
when we go to leave.
Oh, the oranges are going to go stale.
They're all going to dry out.
Cheers, darling.
It's all downhill from here.
See, I've just got a normal display,
but I've got four cameras in this car.
So this shows me underside,
under each wing mirror,
which actually isn't working very well
because they're folded out.
So if I fold them out properly,
it'll give me the proper lines.
And then that's my front camera,
which is all covered in crap.
And then it gives me all my angles
and stuff like that.
I can change the views,
have it however I want.
But I do actually find that really useful
when I'm off-roading.
Mate, wait till you see the exit.
I'm looking forward to it.
You're going to froth on it.
Hey, are you first gear loaders rolling down?
Yeah.
When you get to where I am now,
you'll get the idea of where the beach is
and where we are.
Oh, s***.
I'm having a cocktail franks
and a can that's been around for a while.
Heinz Beans.
What are you having?
I'm going to make some wraps, mate.
Do you want one?
Yeah.
I wouldn't feed that to Fred.
That's for the camera crew.
Yeah, I don't think there's much of a competition
between the Prado and the HiLux kitchen.
I'll just take this and eat it over here.
My entire car is a kitchen.
It's just a moving kitchen.
Hey, hey, but mine,
as a seat,
I'll give you that.
That's really...
Do you want a seat, mate?
Yeah, I'd love one.
I'll do the kitchen stuff.
You do the seat stuff.
Okay.
That's a good deal, mate.
No dust in here yet.
This might do it.
So, how do you go with dust sealing, mate?
I found it pretty easy to keep all your stuff dust free
and clean.
Going well?
He gets a bit sooky about this.
Ronnie's car is renowned for filling with dust.
It has been drizzling the whole time,
so he's been lucky.
He hasn't actually filled it this time.
But he's got a whole bunch of plans
to let positive pressure
and that kind of thing in the tray.
But I have my own issues.
So, I've had to work pretty hard
to get mine to dust seal properly.
So, I've had no dust ingress
since I've found this new technique.
And the technique is...
Yeah, that.
Close the door.
I will give him one extra point, though.
One small thing which I didn't actually consider,
and that is his cab doesn't get filled with smoke at camp
because his camp setup is separate to his cab.
My car stinks of smoke right now
because I've been camping for a couple of days
next to a fire,
and it's all one area.
Definitely the Prado gets it on that one,
but not without one small downfall.
Welcome to the corkscrew, Harry.
We've got to come up this.
Very fun to come up.
Tight turning circles, though.
Oh, yeah, how's the harlots going to go?
Oh, that did not make it well.
Still made it.
Crab walk, but made it.
Mate, I nearly cut the corner.
Don't know what it is in the Toyota utes.
They just never quite nail it.
Oh, my God.
Okay, so I come from a 79.
Still have it.
That thing has a disgusting turning circle.
This thing runs rings inside it.
That runs rings inside this.
It's ridiculous.
Absolutely, yeah.
This is easy to drive in the city.
Easy to drive off-road.
Great turning circle for a car of its size.
So I think that's a point to the Prado.
All right, Harry, the deal is when we get down here,
we'll pull up next to each other,
go as far down the beach,
turn around, come back.
Doesn't matter who gets back first or last or whatever,
but whoever can make it back in one hit,
that's all that matters.
So gear choice, up to you.
All right, sounds good.
I like it.
It's like an endurance race, not a drag race.
Yeah, kind of.
What are you doing, high or low?
High.
You're going high?
I might play it safe.
You might be waiting a while, though.
I'll give you a head start.
Go for it.
Are you wanting to see if I bog down or not?
Yeah.
I'm trying not to blow you high.
I thought you might.
Steady as she goes.
Nice.
Are you doing a three-pointer?
This is so bad.
Are you stuck?
Nope.
Try and pop out of this one.
Come on, baby.
I think I made it back a bit easier than he did.
I don't know.
I'm kind of chalking that one out of me.
This is a tough one,
because my car costs a lot more retail than your car.
My car is 86 grand retail,
and yours is?
67.
67 grand, so that's 19,000 difference.
Obviously I think the value for money for the Prado was there,
otherwise I wouldn't have bought it.
So I felt like the extra features and that kind of thing,
the extra niceties inside were worth the extra money.
But you obviously didn't think that,
and you think that the Hilux was really good value for money.
I think the Hilux is good value for money,
but that's not the reason why I got the Hilux.
I didn't want to get a Prado wagon,
and I couldn't afford it.
Value for money, what do you guys think?
Because it's up to you guys, not up to us.
Absolutely.
But I think that you always get resale value on both these cars.
That's it.
I don't think either of us are going to lose much money at all on these cars.
They're both good investments.
Going up.
Just made it in one hit.
How'd you go, mate?
Good, mate. Come out.
Must have made it first go.
Alrighty.
The scary thing is this ledge off to the right,
and all the giant whoops, obviously.
Turning circle is no issue at all.
I'm not even at full lock most of the time.
I went full lock then for a little bit,
but you feel the traction control helping you.
That was awesome.
That's a really good little bit of track.
Yeah, it's a good stretch, hey?
That's sick.
We drove each other's vehicles off-road
to get a feel of each vehicle.
So let's talk about which we determined is the best off-road.
I don't know if you were actually paying any attention
or just buggering around with my car.
G'day, guys. I'm Ronnie.
Let's try the Billy car.
You're in the Harry-mobile.
Steering wheel comes towards you.
What?
I don't know where anything is.
Alright, mate. You ready to go?
Ah, yep.
The radio's in a different spot.
Yeah, I couldn't find yours either.
Some lady keeps talking to me.
Oh, yeah. That's my dash cam.
Do you feel like you're sitting lower?
Definitely.
I feel like I'm sitting higher.
Surprisingly comfortable for a Ute.
Oh, my God. Look at that.
Look at that beautiful vehicle in front of me.
What is that?
Oh, I can't see anything.
There's one behind me, though. Stunning.
See how it just looks fast going.
There's a patrol behind me.
I found your car very, very stable.
The long wheelbase was actually really nice.
It's obviously not as good through tight stuff.
Sum up the Horlocks in one sentence.
I'm going to say
tough,
light,
and
surprisingly nice.
Surprisingly refined.
Nice.
I didn't think it would actually drive this well.
I thought it would be a bit more of a billy cart
and it's actually lovely.
You thought it would be more of a billy cart?
I don't know.
It's a Ute with leaves
and it's not super heavy.
I just thought it would be a bit rougher.
Yeah, it used to be rougher
until I changed the suspension.
I've got to say, the suspension's great.
I can't say a bad word about it.
Likewise with the Prado.
I found it, particularly up that limestone rock,
I found it a lot less...
I found I was on a lot less of an angle,
which was really nice.
What about you? How did you find the Prado?
Can you sum up the Prado in a sentence?
Okay, I'll try.
Luxurious,
comfort,
and
bloody nice to drive.
Commanding,
comfort,
and
controlling.
The three C's.
That's not the C you were mentioning earlier.
No, that was a driver.
It's like
a 200 series,
but more nimble.
That's a good summary.
Definitely luxurious
with the bloody, you know,
the fridge in the middle here,
and aircon seats,
and yeah,
that's about all I can say.
It's definitely not short of electronic.
Slightly more nimble
and capability, the same.
Yeah, I agree.
I think my suspension's a little bit
softer and more comfortable,
but because of your longer
wheelbase, you're sort of
protected a little bit from that.
It makes it buck less.
Yeah, no, I agree. I think they're on par.
Different places, they'll be different,
but yeah, pretty close.
Sorry, Harry.
I heard that.
Straight or left?
It doesn't make a difference, does it?
I think straight.
Every time your antenna hits something,
I think I've crashed the car.
It's like, dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum.
What is this?
A bloody Coles car park?
You've gone the wrong way.
Smartass.
Which has more
modifications available for it,
and which is easier to modify?
You've got a ute, I've got a wagon.
Always more things available for
utes, because you can go to a tray,
and that gives you basically infinite
adaptability. But this isn't a
wagon versus ute video, so we're not
going to go into that too much.
For the other stuff that's involved,
like suspension... Hang on, so you don't want to go
into it too much because the ute has that over the wagon?
Is that what you're saying?
Yeah, yeah, I'll give you that. It definitely has it.
But the other advantage is, of course, mine's cheaper
to modify in terms of a storage solution.
For you to do an effective
dust-sealed storage solution is actually quite expensive.
Do you have to go to it again? Dust?
Always. It's my go-to.
Suspension, I'd say, we're similar cost,
but interestingly, I have a much more
limited range of suspension systems that give
me a GVM upgrade available to me.
Because yours is a commercial vehicle, pretty much
every brand does a GVM upgrade.
Don't be stupid not to. Yeah, there are only about
two or three that do it for me. You can go to
pretty much anywhere. So, bar work and things
like that, same, same.
Same, same. Yeah.
How do you open this thing?
Don't mind if I do.
Might be shook up though.
Harry, if this goes everywhere
in your car, I'm very sorry.
Where's the bloody cup holders
on the front?
Um, in front of the gear stick?
Yeah, cool.
That's more room to put stuff.
You've got more little cubbies and stuff.
And the fact that you've got a centre console means that
you can also store more stuff in there
because mine's a fridge.
Oh, is yours a fridge?
Yeah, you should have a look inside.
Nah, it's alright, mate. I don't need to.
I already have.
Don't drink and drive.
It won't leak in there, I promise, but you're gonna get
a nice surprise. I've got my car back.
Ronnie said, whatever I do, I have
to make sure the GoPro's rolling when I
open my centre console.
Thanks, mate.
Oh!
Oh, ----.
It's such a benign thing,
but he's just put an empty Coke in there,
which makes me immediately go,
oh my god, there is Coke all through, mate.
That's good.
That's a good... There's no Coke in there.
That's...
I'm impressed.
Limbering up.
For the great, uh...
What are we calling it?
Challenge.
The cracker beer challenge. Here's the rules for our challenge.
It's who can sit up fastest.
Table,
awning, chair,
cold beer. And cold beer,
crack it open. Yep.
What's the special rule? So, one hand at a time.
You can use your left, you can use your right,
but only one at a time.
Are you cool with that? Okay.
Only one hand at a time? Yeah. Okay.
And what if we stuff up? Penalty?
Penalty for each touch, say 10 seconds.
10 seconds?
For a double hand touch. Okay.
10 seconds.
One handed.
Dammit.
This is bloody dirt.
Oh, delicious.
Where was your beer? It was in the console
fridge.
You monster.
I'll give that one to you.
Do you reckon I would have
had you if you went for the back one? Yeah.
Because you're downhill.
And my awning got stuck.
I didn't open the bag all the way.
My wrist hurts really bad.
I must have jammed it somewhere.
You got that awning up quick.
Yeah, I'm surprised.
Wow.
That was surprisingly difficult.
That was.
Your chair doesn't look like it's going to fall over,
but we said be in your chair and you're in your chair.
Yeah, that was a bit of a...
I still don't even know how to open it with my hands.
Both hands.
This is bloody dirt.
I'd love to know what the actual total time of that set up was,
but it was not slow.
That was under a minute, definitely.
Yeah.
Exhausting, but under a minute.
But I'm pretty happy with my result.
I think the chair's more comfortable this way.
If you can get them in time.
Nice win.
I didn't see that one coming. I should have.
Whoa.
All done. So who won?
Who won in your mind?
There's no doubt.
We don't have to ask them.
No, the audience decides.
Obviously I won.
Mate, put your broken fingernails away.
Mate, you look like a country music singer
in your bloody old go-kart.
Active wear hipster.
Take your shopping trolley to the shop, mate.
How do you get your planks of wood on the road
for those bloody lights in the way?
Light bar over lockers.
I've got just as many lockers as you.
Nah, we both know who the audience are going to pick.
Glorified, bloody bouncy leaf spring.
Mate, you're tougher.
Unbreakable.
Might as well have got a RAV4.
Unbelievable.
Still talking about it.
I'm finding a new gig.
Yeah, nah, I'm over this. Grab that.
Where's the camera guy gone?
Shit, it's dark.
