I am beyond excited as this weekend we are building our new greenhouse.
It’s called the Victorian Tall Greenhouse from Forest Garden Company.
Dimensions: 198 (H), 147 (W), 72 (D) Weight: 79kg
It has 2 opening roof vents for ventilation 2 heights of shelving Adjustable centre shelving sections Constructed from pressure treated timber frame and back panel Supplied unpainted 15 years Anti Rot Guarantee www.forest.org
We have finished pre-painting it and here Richard is building it for me.
I have all my seeds on order, plus lots of greenhouse equipment such as self-watering seed starter trays and heat mats so I am raring to get started with sowing from February onwards!
Such an exciting start to 2021.

Hello everyone, it's Jeanette here again from Enthusiastic Gardener and today is a day
like no other because today we are putting the greenhouse together and I'm so excited.
These, which have done so well in my little plastic covers, they have done so well they
need a new home and I'm very excited I've even ordered new seeds. Richard has been painting,
I take back all I said in my last vlog because Richard has painted everything else.
So basically he did the lot and thank you for that Richard. He's setting up a workstation
and he is ready to go so I am going to be his very willing assistant and do as I'm told,
or try anyway. Look the seeds have done so well in their little plastic covers and that is still
a fantastic idea but I'm going to give those a plastic pot system to my dad. Dad is very
interested in getting them, in fact every time I see him he says how are you getting on with the
greenhouse? So he's dying to get these plastic pots so that he can do all his vegetables and
keep his slugs away. Let's go and have a look. Welcome to this January morning, a little bit of
sun and it's finally going to happen. The greenhouse is being erected. So I've got my workstation
worked out. I'm going to get my tools in and then we'll start. Just preparing all the tools.
I do like to be organised and have everything at hand
and I do like a drill bit set especially when it's a new one. As you can see I'm all ready
Instructions. Being a man you just throw them away. Pack of screws. I bought additional screws.
Oh explain about the feet Rich. The feet. In this area we have two water butts
and especially during the winter tend to overflow. So instead of having the greenhouse sitting on
the floor I've bought additional feet so that they don't actually sit in your water.
I mean once the greenhouse is erected I'm going to put a duck walk, duck clink in the greenhouse so
everything's off the patio. Right it's getting quite nippy now or chilly. As you can see we're up to
this stage here now. So we'll come back to that tomorrow. Weather pending but at least we've got
the windows in now. The roof was the hardest bit wasn't it? The roof is yeah very difficult but
we're almost there. Freezing cold. Freezing cold but I love it so far
and yes we'll be back tomorrow. Let's hope it doesn't rain. Three days later now because it
kept raining Richard is putting the shelves in and also we've now got lips here as you see these bits
here to stop the rain coming in. I've got my golf hat on. I'm making you a cup of tea.
Lovely so you should. It's shaping up now but we've still got the tricky job. What's that? Of fixing
the doors. Oh yeah. Being timber it moves and in these conditions everything's swollen up because
it's cold and damp so there will probably be a bit of shaving of the doors to make them fit.
Yes the doors actually at the moment don't close they don't even fit in the space
so he's got to do some adjusting. Are you still doing a base on the floor? Yes
yes I don't want you walking on concrete. What's going to happen to me if I walk on concrete Rich?
No presumably you're going to be storing stuff on the floor. Yeah. You don't want them getting
No. I've decided that I'm not going to have these little middle shelves on a hinge
because they do hinge and they go up and down but I will never have them down. I'll always
maximize the space so Richard is going to fix them permanently which I think will be a much better
idea. See where the wood is swollen the doors don't fit so I'm going to have to shave the sides
of each door every quarter of an inch. Looking at that. Oh yeah quarter of an inch off. Oh yeah.
Quarter of an inch off each door. A centimetre. Why do you have to have that door on top?
That's the straight edge. Ah. I'm cutting the straight edge all the way down. Okay.
So in total you took off this much which is quite a bit. Right the doors are cut to size
now before I hang them I want to on the cut edge give it a coat of paint so we'll give it a coat
of paint let it go off overnight then tomorrow weather pending we can hang the doors.
As you can see the greenhouse is virtually finished completely. Now since the last visit
I had to shave off the doors to make them fit. Having done that there was a gap between the doors
so the piece I shaved off I've put down the middle. I've still got to fill these and paint them
and just paint the inside and then from the point of view of painting that's all done.
Now two latches for this door. As I said before I was going to make a duck tank to go on the floor
so this is so that once you put stuff on the floor it's not sitting on the ground
because obviously when it rains the floor will get wet. Now what I've also done since
there is a light for when she's out there in the evenings god knows when
and there's sockets she wanted sockets in there so now there's four sockets. I don't know maybe
she's having a television in there and an armchair. We've got the roof lights
we've got you can have them like that or like that a bit more paint. So basically
all the hard work is done now so now Jeanette can see the way as much as she wants and even in the
I couldn't have been more delighted with my beautiful little greenhouse and yes I've got
sockets and so there's possibilities and I could put heat pads there I could put a little heater
I could put a fan who knows but I don't think I can fit a television in.
But I'm going to put my plants in now and my plants I haven't actually seen them for
quite a while because they've been in their little protective domes and I think it's actually
zero today so it's very cold and I think they could well have a shock coming into here but
anyway let's put them in and see what it looks like. So here we are the beginnings of greatness
I hope. I've lost a few things but on the whole whoops we have some primulus, calendulus,
violas, more violas and the yellow ones at the back are violas. The front two are just some
little cuttings I took from my bay leaf and these are marigolds and I even have
a little flower and down here I have nasturtiums. I don't know what I'm going to do with all these.
My Galway which is overwintering I have lots more calendulas.
There's scabioses of the blue ones and the ornamental cabbages. So there we are the start
of many great things to come I hope and I hope this video has not gone on too long
but it's been great fun and I cannot thank Richard enough for doing everything for me
because he has been brilliant and so thank you Richard and I will see you very very soon. I
hope you're having fun in your gardens it will soon be time to start sowing new seeds and so now
I have somewhere to put them. Thank you so much for watching and take care everyone and have fun
in your gardens. Bye!
