So, let's go over some basic conversational phrases in Spanish.
In this video, we'll talk about how to greet people and how to say goodbye.
So first, some greetings.
Hola.
You could also ask somebody, what's up?
¿Qué tal?
And you'll notice again, you have accent marks, which show where the stress falls on
a word, and you'll also notice upside-down question marks at the beginning of questions.
You could also greet somebody a little bit more formally, and you could just say, depending
on the time of day, buenos días, buenas tardes, buenas noches.
Again that was buenos días, buenas tardes, or buenas noches, depending on the time of
day.
And some ways to say goodbye, you could say, adiós, adiós, hasta luego, hasta luego.
Something else you might commonly come across is that a polite way to leave a conversation
or a group is that you could say to somebody, con permiso, con permiso.
So if the conversation's ended and you're kind of in an awkward place, you could just
say to somebody, con permiso, as if to say, okay, well, if you'll excuse me, I'm going
to leave now.
And you could also say the phrase, ya me voy, ya me voy.
And this is something that you might come across pretty often, that people just might
announce that they're leaving.
And they'll just say, ya me voy, and like we would say, gotta go.
Another way to say goodbye to somebody would be, nos vemos, nos vemos, and that just means,
we will see each other, or see you later, kind of an idea.
You could tell somebody to take care, and you could say, cuídate, cuídate.
Or if you wanted to be the formal and polite to the person, you could say, cuídese, cuídese.
And you will notice that in Spanish, there is a way of saying something to people you
know, and there's also a way of saying things to people that you don't know, or that you
want to show extra respect to.
Well, that's it for this video lesson on greetings and farewells in Spanish.
Hopefully you found it helpful.
