Hey guys, welcome back to my channel. In today's video,
we are going to be going grocery shopping and buying two weeks of meals for
about 60 bucks to feed my family of five.
If you are looking to save tons of money on your grocery bill every month,
then this video is for you.
Lots of these meals are frugal and resourceful and are going to be able to
stretch your dollar at the grocery store.
I hope that you enjoy these tips and tricks of mine.
Make sure to subscribe if you are new and hit the thumbs up button if you like
what you see here. I will see y'all after the video. All right guys,
so the plan is to go into Walmart and get my food for 14 meals.
So I'm getting enough dinners for two weeks. I usually shop at Aldi,
but honestly Walmart is better whenever I need individual items because a lot of
Aldi's produce can sometimes be packaged and they give me way more than I
actually need.
And I'm trying to be like as frugal and resourceful as possible with all of
these meals.
So I'm going to go in and get all of my things and I will bring you with me.
Today's video is also in collaboration with Christine from frugal fit mom.
So y'all make sure to go watch her video after mine.
She is a mother as well and she shares a ton of saving money tips in the
kitchen, frugal cooking and fitness on her channel.
So make sure to go to her video,
give it a watch and tell her hello in the comments.
I am starting off this haul with getting some potatoes.
Potatoes are a great way, an inexpensive way to feed your family.
There are lots of varieties and recipes that you can use for potatoes.
Now I was looking for celery that was actually marked for 97 cents a bag.
However, I could not find it in store. So I did buy a bigger bag.
I also was looking for a bigger bag of carrots.
They only had a small bag,
so I had to grab two bags of carrots for 97 cents each mixed vegetables.
I was looking for the small bag,
but it actually turned out where the two pound bag was going to be more cost
effective. So I grabbed one of those instead of two small bags,
black beans,
grabbing a couple of those cause my family likes those and I actually scored
because I found this rice land bag, um,
that was 10 cents cheaper than the Walmart brand.
So I grabbed one of those. I scored some Rotel, um,
Walmart brand Rotel gotta go generic to save as much money as you can.
This traditional pasta is 88 cents.
I grabbed some tortillas to be able to make burritos and I loved,
I was going to pick this rotini for 88 cents,
82 cents,
but I found that the bow tie pasta would do just as fine and it was actually
like 78 cents. So that was helpful. Save me some money.
I grabbed some picante sauce to be able to have with our burritos and some
chicken in a can. Chicken in a can is a great thing to add into soups.
You don't really notice because it's going to be cooked anyways.
Now with the corn, I was going to get just one small can,
but for some reason this Walmart did not have like individual small cans of
corn. So I grabbed a bigger one,
got to grab some flour for my homemade bread and I grabbed some buns and some
bread to make hot dogs and grilled cheese for the week.
The generic brand is about 88 cents.
I had to dig to find my breakfast sausage,
but I was able to find some, the Walmart brand.
I got some eggs just checking to make sure none of them are cracked.
You got to remember to do that whenever you're buying eggs.
Cream cheese is very cheap and I did go for the big bag of shredded cheese.
I was looking for just the regular, um, but for some reason, again,
I don't know what the deal is. This Walmart was like,
everything was taken over.
So grabbed one of those to save some money and I just can't buy the cheap hot
dogs. I don't know. It's like a bad memory from when I was young.
I don't trust them and the ingredients. Um,
but I did score these turkey hot dogs and the ingredients were a little bit
better and there was only like $1.50 for about 10 of them.
So I bought those instead of the 88 cents ones.
I grabbed some sliced cheese to be able to make grilled cheese sandwiches because
that's easy and I was going to grab this sausage for $1.98 but I was so upset it
was gone. So I did get the Eckridge sausage, which is okay. It's good too.
Um, but I did have to spend a little bit more to buy that.
I did get some ground beef. I always go for the ground beef in the tube.
It just saves some money.
All right guys. So I spent around 61 bucks for all of my meals.
They're pretty big meals,
so I'm pretty impressed and I'm going to go home and unload it all.
I'm going to share with you probably about half of the meals.
All 14 of them would be a really long video.
So I'm going to share with you my favorites and ones that I think that you
would benefit from the most and let's get into it. All right,
I got all of this 61 83 okay and this is all of it.
Okay guys,
so the first meal I'm going to show you is just like a really easy Italian
pasta. So I have one jar of sauce, bow tie pasta, mozzarella cheese,
but the trick here is to use half a thing of cream cheese to make it creamy and
then we're going to have it with some homemade bread.
All right guys, now I'm going to share with you how to make my bread.
There are cheaper ways to make bread.
You can make bread with just like water, flour, yeast,
and salt and totally do that if that's what you want to do. However,
I am obsessed with this bread recipe and it does, um,
qualify for a couple of more ingredients than that,
but I can't not have this bread. It's amazing.
So you just need five to seven cups of flour, salt,
um, some yeast. You need a fourth, a cup of butter, um,
and butter people usually have on hand. You need two cups of milk,
usually have on hand. So the only thing that you may not have on hand, however,
most people usually do is some honey. Um, you just need a third a cup,
not a lot. And if you don't have honey,
you can use agave and I've even done this with syrup before and you cannot tell
the difference.
So it's just to make it a little sweeter and moist and you do need an egg and
that's it. And this makes two heaping loaves of bread.
All right. So my honey is like rock solid and I need to boil it.
I don't have time to boil it or I'll do that later.
So I'm just going to use agave syrup
and I'm one of those people that doesn't measure a lot.
Two and a half cups of milk.
Okay. I'm going to microwave this for 30 seconds. Stir 30 seconds,
stir 30 seconds, stir and do that until I think it's,
you know, done. So here's where I'm going to put some salt.
I'm just going to do like a teaspoon or so and I'm going to do five to seven
cups of flour and I think that six is like probably the magic number three,
four, five, six.
And I'm going to leave this out because the last cup I usually sprinkle,
you know, some on the cabinet, so on the counter so I can net it.
Um, and then I need my yeast. So this is my yeast.
You can store it in the freezer. It lasts for a whole long time.
I'm going to do two and a fourth teaspoons.
All right,
now I'm going to put my milk mixture and it does not need to be hot.
It needs to be able to like be warm when you touch it,
but not where you want to take it out. Um,
and then we're going to pour it in and we're going to mix it because if it's too
hot,
And I'm going to cut it in half
and this is going to be my bread.
This is my loaf. Here's my other one. Okay.
Now I'm going to use my bread pans.
These are specifically like bread loaf pans.
They are longer than like a regular one.
And I'm going to coat them with Crisco. Um,
you could use coconut oil. I've done that before,
but you basically need like a greasy fat,
something to be able to coat them so that your bread doesn't stick.
the next really easy meal I'm going to share with you is just a breakfast
casserole. I love breakfast casseroles for breakfast, for lunch, for dinner.
Breakfast is like one of the cheapest meals that you can make.
And I would, I'm like all here for it. I will eat breakfast every day.
And to be honest, I think it tastes better when you eat it for supper.
So I'm going to show you how to whip together a super simple breakfast
casserole on a budget. It's going to be great. All right.
If you don't have one of these choppers, it's absolutely amazing.
You put your onion.
Voila. There you go.
You can do it with tons of other different veggies.
I'm going to throw in a bell pepper for just like a pop of color and extra
spice. You don't have to. Here we go, y'all.
All right.
I just love the way bell peppers and onions smell when they cook.
It's so yummy. All right, I'm going to whip up some breakfast sausage.
Breakfast sausage is super cheap. Well, if I can even get it out of the tube.
All right. And if you don't have one of these, this is so handy.
I will link it down below. All right,
we're going to spray our pan and do half a thing of hash browns.
This is two pounds.
We're only going to use a pound and we'll save the other half for breakfast in
another night. All right, we're going to do like a splash of milk.
We're going to do six eggs. All right,
here's what my sausage and peppers look like.
Smells amazing. And we're going to pour it over.
All right, we're going to mix this in.
Pour the egg mixture over.
Just nice and neat.
Like that. And I'm going to top with cheese.
Just about one cup cheese.
Now we're going to bake at 350, about 30 minutes,
and then we'll be able to enjoy.
All right. And there you have it.
Delicious breakfast casserole ready to serve. All right,
guys, today I'm going to share with you how to make spaghetti on a budget.
I think the important thing to keep in mind here is that spaghetti doesn't always
have to have meat in it.
You can thicken it up with onions and peppers and a really good sauce and it can
go a long way and feed a lot of people.
Throw some homemade bread on the side and you've got yourself a really good meal.
So let's get into it.
Now I'm going to chop another onion and let it cook.
I'm using the same pan that I just used for my breakfast casserole because it's
going to have some really good taste, some seasoning in it, honestly.
So that'll be good.
Another thing I'll say I love about this chopper is that since you're just
chopping it really quick and you're not spending a lot of time with the onion,
you don't cry.
So I'm gonna let this cook and then we will
continue. This is how you know your onions are done.
They start popping and they turn golden and are soft.
So I'm going to turn this down and let them cool and then I will add them in to
the spaghetti. Um, whenever
this noodles are cooked, my water is starting to boil.
So I'm going to pour in my angel hair pasta.
A tip that I like to do is I like to break them in half so that they're easier
for my kids.
You can actually buy the pasta already broken in half at the store.
However, it's more expensive. So don't do that.
Just break your own in half.
Now I'm just going to top it with one cup
and I'm going to put it back in there for like just like five minutes for the
cheese.
Guys, I'm about to cook us some lunch.
So I'm going to whip up another really inexpensive and frugal meal for you.
This is sausage, cheese and potatoes. There's not much to it,
but it is really delicious and super filling.
We're going to use one pound of sausage. I'm going to grab two potatoes.
These are about like 40 cents each and we're going to top it with cheese and
we're going to throw an onion to thicken it up a bit and it's delicious.
Just the way it is. I am starving. I've been busy cooking all day.
You're probably tired of seeing this chopper. Um,
but I use it for potatoes too, believe it or not.
And you can peel your potatoes. That's what you like.
I'm not going to, um, my family doesn't mind the peeling.
So this is, um,
actually one of the best ways to make potatoes for hash browns
because they're like little chopped bite-sized pieces.
I'm going to put just a tad bit of olive oil because those potatoes need some
sort of liquid to cook well.
I'm going to let this simmer and cook
until the potatoes are done. Maybe just a little bit more.
And then we will add in our sausage and top with a bunch of cheese.
But I am going to just do some salt and pepper.
You can transport it to another baking dish if you want,
but I just like to throw the cheese on top of it in the cast iron skillet.
So it is done and I'm just going to use one cup of cheese from my big bag of
cheese.
And we're going to let that melt a little and then it's done.
So I'm going to show you how to make two different things.
I'm going to show you how to make pizza toast and then we're going to be making
hot dogs, which is very self-explanatory,
but I'm going to be making homemade French fries.
So I will share with you how to do that. You can make them for like 50 cents.
Just spray your pan lightly. This literally takes like five seconds.
It's really good for lunches.
Kids love this. I love this.
So we're just going to do that and we are going to
top with one spoonful spaghetti sauce.
It really only takes like half a jar of sauce.
All right. I'm going to take one cup of mozzarella,
sprinkle it on. It doesn't take a lot.
And you can really just use any type of cheese,
have pepperoni, put pepperoni on it.
If you don't just eat it with cheese on it.
And we're going to bake it per the instructions on the box.
So this says like five minutes. Nope. Yeah. Five to seven minutes.
All right now. So when it comes to hot dogs,
I cannot stand them being boiled. I think that that is so gross.
I like mine to be like barbecue ish. Um,
I got the Turkey Franks. I don't like the cheap hot dogs.
They seriously gross me out. I just don't trust them. So I got these, um,
Turkey Franks, but I'm going to broil them in the oven.
Um, or actually I might use my air fryer.
So that's how we're going to cook those.
I just give it a little spray and then I place them there
and let them cook. All right. So now I'm going to cook the French fries.
It's really simple. I have two potatoes, large ones.
I'm just going to slice them into French fry slices and I'm going to put some
oil on a pan and fry them. You can do them in the oven if you don't want to fry
them. Um, I'm going to use olive oil instead of vegetable oil. Um,
but you can also do them in the air fryer too. And they are really good.
There's our hot dogs and we've got our French fries coming along.
So now the trick is here, you've got to drain the grease.
So I'll take them out like this and lay them on paper towels to drain all the
grease off, let them cool. And then we can eat them, do them in the oven though.
Um, cheaper way because oil can get expensive. So for the last meal,
I have two helpers.
Sybil is one and Vera is
three. And we're going to share with you fried rice. This is one of our favorites.
It's super easy and quick. You can do this on the stove.
Um, my favorite way is the instant pot.
So all you need is rice, frozen vegetables,
eggs and soy sauce.
And so I'm going to start with my instant pot. This is just white rice.
Um, if you do brown rice, you're going to need to cook it differently.
So I'm going to do, I'll let you pour it.
Hold on, hold on, hold on. All right, pour it in here.
Two cups of rice. Two cups of water.
Make sure it's sealed and it's, um, on sealed up here.
We're going to do manual. Well, we're going to do rice for 12 minutes.
Now this is going to go for 12 minutes.
I'm going to let it naturally release on its own.
I will open it and then I will add in the rest of the ingredients. Um,
if you want to do this on the stove top and you don't have an instant pot,
that's fine. Just like boil your rice, use a rice cooker,
however you normally cook rice. All right, so this is done. It's hot.
So what I'm going to do now is you take a little bit of your rice and you move
it over to the side. I don't want to do it. I know you do, but it's hot.
Okay. So we're going to move it over to the side like this.
We're going to put it on saute and this is where we're going to crack our eggs.
I just do this until my eggs cooked and I start mixing it.
I'm going to add in just a little bit of vegetables.
Right now I'm going to add in some soy sauce, probably about a fourth a cup.
We're going to add salt and pepper. No, it's right here,
baby. I got it. This is one of our favorite meals. It's so good.
So I use two cups of rice and like one pound of frozen vegetables for eggs.
If you want to use all of the rice,
then you need a two pound bag of frozen vegetables and that's it.
This is one of those meals where it's all going to be gone. So anyways,
hope that y'all enjoyed this video.
I will share probably the other meals in another video.
So be on the lookout for that. I will print them out.
I will type them out in the description box. Good.
Thanks so much for watching. I will see y'all next time. Bye everybody.
