Hello everyone welcome to my channel
If you want to learn standard Chinese but have very limited time
then this video is perfect for you
Mandarin is the most difficult way to learn the world's
language especially if you want to learn it as
quickly as possible I am currently in my final year of studying
medicine and I am balancing it with learning Chinese
I can study Chinese anytime I have free time at home
Today I want to share with you my plan to learn Chinese this year
I am currently studying medicine at Cambridge so I am quite busy and don't have much time to study Chinese
I will share all the resources I
use and how I am planning my time I
am on a student budget so all of these will be very budget-friendly
You just need a
computer an internet some space in
your hands and
a lot of drive
stay focused on your goals
So as usual I'll put it in the schedule below
so you can skip the parts that interest you
First I'll talk about goal setting
And how I plan to study Chinese
Next I will talk about how to plan your study
And how to learn speaking
Finally I will talk about how to practice speaking
And listen
So let's start recording the video
First you must set some goals
And plan how you will study
This is very important to me
In my process of learning Chinese I
honestly think that a lot of my progress is
based on the fact that I set up a very
fixed plan and I plan to continue training
First you need to
consider goal setting Why are you learning Chinese
Write down a short list
somewhere you can look at it if you feel unmotivated
Or if you're not excited about learning
because in reality being able to learn a
language and having the
time and resources to
do so is a great honor and I feel very lucky
I have the time and
resources to learn Chinese
This is something I often need to remind
myself of Therefore writing all of this
down somewhere why do you want to learn a language
Also some exciting things
About language
It is very important
Keep executing Second
you must decide your premise
Therefore for me
my premise
is persuasiveness
for speaking to people
And data reading
is basically able to
understand any Chinese information
or comments
or any similar Chinese websites
Therefore this means things that are important to me
when I am studying
first being able to talk to people
which includes
Actually speaking
and listening
and understanding
second being
able to read and recognize
characters I decided
to learn from
handwriting because I realized
it would take
me more time to
be able to recognize
the language and
learn the language itself
And how to use it and how to write by
hand including
all characters
and everything this will
probably take me
twice as long
to improve in
Chinese not because I must use these
techniques because
most of the communicatio
These days information is
stored and
printed on data
keys so for
me it's enough
as long as I
can recognize
the characters
and use the
character key
if you're not
familiar with
the character
key basically it's general
Type a character
key then
there are several suggestions
for the character so
if you can
recognize the
correct character then
select it and you can actually print
Chinese on
the computer or
on the phone
That's enough
For me so if writing a book
is something
you're very passionate
about then
go for it But
for me I realized that within my limited time I
want to focus on things
that are very important to me
This is basically about
improving my
communication skills and being able to
speak and text
in real
life The third phase of the plan is that
I have a huge
Excel signature that I use
all my resources to track
It's very exciting
to be able to see all
that I've
done through
various Ankydecks or
various language lists
This makes me think
about how
far I've come
at the end
of the video
When I talk about all
the resources I use
I will put them
together and show you how
I use Excel signature
to track everything
I do of course feel free to skip ahead
If you are interested the
structure I used in terms
of actual
resources and my
learning method was first
the HSK course HSK stands
for Chinese Proficiency
Test which
basically means
an intermediate level exam
The HSK
curriculum is very detailed
so I plan to
reach HSK level 5
by 2022 Let's see
I am currently
at HSK level
4 so this
means that
Learn about 1300 new
words and use them
in sentences The
resources I use are
definitely the HSK
course books
and workbooks
Every weekend I
plan to do a chapter
One work chapter
Each chapter
Because I will have a little More time on
weekends Busier weekends
And my medicine
Then in learning the language
And in improvements in this area
I will use
Two encore stages
One encore stage
Mainly reading
and recognizing characters
and through HSK language
I need to understand
I plan to study
about 10 new characters a day
This might be a
bit adventurous
But I will plan to do high
then I might
reduce these
if I am too busy
then I will try
when I have more free time
so I won't work too hard
if I can't
learn 10 new characters a day
But I will
Gently Life will certainly have difficulties
especially when we
try to learn a part of a language
To compensate for my encore stage
I really like
a website called MDBG
It is an online
Chinese language
Pleco is a
great mobile
language app I also
have another app called
SpoonFedChinese which is really good It's
basically a
Chinese language
app with a local
language reading feature
These are
very suitable
for immersing in
language then gradually
absorbing it naturally
and estimating so I will do it next to
another encore stage and I will also plan
Ten new characters a day
next talking
about speaking
practicing speaking is
very important if you
want to actually be able to
talk because learning a
language theoretically is
all good but
if you can't use
You can't actually speak
and communicate
with others so all
this knowledge stays locked in your mind
Therefore you really need
to practice
speaking use it
prepare sentences
and don't
worry about making mistakes
Because ultimately speaking a
language is not
about being perfect
but about being able to express
yourself and
interact with others
and even native speakers often
make mistakes this
is not a problem
this is all about conversation
so I highly recommend you can too
Do some speaking
exercises
This is something I try to work
on every
week Although there are some challenges I think it'
s worth it Therefore to practice my speaking I
hope to have
a weekend chat
Chatted with a local
Chinese speaker
for about
an hour Of course this
would better If I could
do more but same thing
time constraints are
real What I plan to do
is one chapter
each week
The regular HSK textbook
I hope
from that chapter to bring a few things
Chat
Our weekend Chinese chat
In the past
I found these local language speakers
The way of conversation Is on italki
Or other language exchange websites
I have a whole video
Actually in the conversation
How did you find
Set up a perfect language exchange
I will add a link
to that video
here
in a corner
as an option
find a language partner
you can also find
an actual teacher
I occasionally teach
English on italki
or another website
or in real life
I have a
conversation that I think is
very useful and
fits many situations
Very core language knowledge
So I often use
The same plan there
And bring them to
My Chinese class
This forms a
Very good core
For conversation
You can go
Anywhere
I will add links to my
plan in case
you find them
interesting for
your own language
practice Finally
the final
difficulty for my Chinese
learning this year was the
ability to explain These
are very important
and truly
It's a great
way to enhance
your language learning very
interesting and
enjoyable The
term "explanation
" basically
means language the ability
to understand and that you
can understand it but you
don't fully understand it
Each word or
language structure
used inside basically means
that the overall meaning and
the words of the
language are something you can
understand but there are a few
parts you are not familiar
with which will
help your brain
Understanding these new
structures and
languages that
are unfamiliar to you will
help you absorb them more
naturally My
two main plans
for this year
are: the first
is to listen to podcasts in the past I have listened to
There are a lot of Chinese learning podcasts
That's great
but I found
when I don't have much time
sometimes it's easier
to just have one main podcast
I can download
without worrying
Oh
How do I feel today
So this year I
I will keep
it simple and
focus on listening Many
Chinese podcasts because I absolutely love their
stuff They have Chinese
learning podcasts for every
level of Chinese learner from
beginner to novice
Middle school students UntilLeaders
They often
Through a conversation
Then break down
Discuss any cultural highlights
Any new language
I am
Absolutely love their podcast
So I
Incorporate this
Into my daily life
Every day I listen to this
podcast as part of my daily
routine It's a
way for me to
make sure I have
no reason not to
do it As long as I do my daily
activities I hope that after listening to a short clip of
a Chinese podcast
I often find
My biggest reason is that I
don't have time
so if I use my
Chinese podcast
during the time
I listen and during my daily
routine I really
don't have a
reason to not
have it on in the
background while I brush my
teeth get dressed
all of these
I hope that as time goes by
there are certainly
many other
excellent podcasts out there choose the one
that suits you
best and then go for it The
second type of
content that I can
understand what
I will do this
year is television programs
So these two
are helpful for
Chinese learners
and able to
integrate into
the language's
sounds and understand
the content The
second one is also very
interesting There
are now many good Cantonese speaking
shows on Netflix
I use a Chrome
extension called
Language Reactor
was previously
called Netflix Language
Learning but has
recently been
reactivated Actually when you
watch Netflix
with this extension
two subtitles
appear one
in your target
learning language
in this case Chinese then
Smaller below
In your native language
In my case
English So there will be
Chinese and English subtitles
Television programs are being broadcast
And some features
That let you stop
Each sentence of every television program
Make sure you can
understand and
speak a little
slowly which is very helpful
for truly understanding TV
programs and
knowing what they are saying because sometimes
I find that when I'm just watching a Chinese program
Some Chinese language
I completely misunderstood
but these subtitles
I can
keep stopping
and watch
what is the Chinese language
if you skip
certain languages
or click it
it will connect to
language definitions
these languages
So it's very helpful I will mention in the description below my thoughts
on the Chinese learning
program I think I don't need so much encouragement
to watch more interesting
Chinese programs So I hope
This will happen
naturally Maybe if I
feel like I'm coming
from other
work I can
watch some Chinese
TV as a professional
joke or
just as a way to relax and unwind
After a busy
day I just
started watching two
new Chinese shows on
Netflix one
called Take
My Brother Away and the other called The Rise
of Phoenixes so putting all these together
This is my Excel
plan for this
year So as you can
see at the top I have a box
with my
Anki plan
which includes
the SpoonFed plan
It is a whole-
word plan and HSK
vocabulary Anki plan
these plans include
characters and their
meanings as my goal setting I like
setting a
certain time
Let's do
a review
or some tests
to test my
knowledge or see
where I am now
so I'm
completely 随意 from today
February 7 2022
Try to complete HSK
vocabulary So I am now at HSK level
4 This will
be 1300 new words New
language And be able
to read characters and use the language
completely in
any situation
I will check
If I can do it
I think
it might be a bit confusing
because I am still
a full-time medical student
I will start
as a doctor
in July
but we will see
how we can get back
to this in
September 2022 I
wonder if
I can reach
my goal so on the left side
of the Excel
sheet I put the number
of days so on the
left there
are 222 days
and list them
The number next to
it is how many days have passed then
next to it I put the date
then in the
body of the
Excel sheet
I listed the
number of new Ankica
each day for
my two
identical Ankicas
Then next to it the
number of HSK books I have achieved I
was able to pass on a certain day
I was still checking my
HSK book
course progress
so this is
basically the lessons in the book
Or through any
work book movement
then I will use
mytransmitter
to plan
and check
what I can do
thennext
I will record
the listening exercises I can get
play
Or TV show
last nibba
fact I got whether I
had some kind
of language
exchange or manage
to have
some kind of
chat in Chinese and
how that went on another
tab of the
spreadshee
I like
to keep a list of all the
resources and the TV shows and
music and
all of that
stuff that I find
interesting for learning
Chinese just so that there's one
place I can go
and refer to all of this
stuff that I
have access to and
it's just nice to have it all in one
place finally
on the
very right hand
side is my favourite
I will write down my feelings on a certain
day any day's challenges any challenge
any achievement This is a very interesting thing so when I was learning Chinese
I filled these things in it's a great record You can see that some days went very well
some days not so well But overall you're still
making progress and you can clearly see that
Show your actual progress on this cover and how you feel about it you can look
back it's a great reminder that even on
days that didn't go well you will look back
You'll be okay as long as you head
in the right direction No matter how
fast or how slow you go Even if you can't stop even if you can't stop
Remember this is what I plan to study Chinese
for the next year Thank you for watching my video
