To single crochet in the back loop, go ahead and make one single crochet row normally.
Then make a chain one. And now, when you normally crochet, you'd go underneath both of these two
loops right here at the top that form a V. Go right in that space right here. But we're going
just through the back loop. So go ahead, using your hook, go down in between those two stitches
and out the back. You can see there's the front loop and there's the back loop.
Grab the working yarn with your hook and pull through that back loop. Grab the working yarn
and pull through both loops on the hook. So let's do that one more time. There's the V.
You want to go down, out the back, down through those stitches.
Grab the yarn with your hook. Two loops on your hook. There's the back and front loop one more
time. Pull through both loops. Just repeat this same process all the way across. You're just
making single crochet stitches like normal. The only thing that's changing is that you're going
just underneath the back loop rather than both loops like you would when you normally crochet.
Work all the way across to that very last single crochet stitch.
It's one row that's in the back loop. Two rows total. Make a chain one. Turn your work
and you'll just want to keep working in the back loop with each new row that you do.
So same as before, I'm just going down in between those stitches and then making a
single crochet like I normally would. So I made a few rows of the single crochet in the back loop
so that you could see what it looks like with more stitches. You can see that there's a nice
ribbing and cool texture. It's a fun way to mix up just a normal single crochet stitch to make
your project have a little more extra texture and just a different feel to it.
And if you've done things right, you should have ribbing on the front
and the back. It's as easy as that to single crochet in the back loop.
